Hey guys, hey mysticus,

is it possible to install only the kexts from your new update packages I need? As I told you I don't want my NC10 be as a NC10 at the system profiler for some reasons.
In this case (and as you told me) I only want to install the updates for sound, graphic and so but not for EFI or Bios.

If I install your new kexts with kexthelper it has no effect. Could you tell me how I can do this?
adamcarter
Ok, So mysticus pm me your email I have a kext that may allow the multitouch support on our nc10 trackpad. its 1.2 megs I think it is something to look at...

Mysticus, I run into a problem here. I used the DVDupdate10.5.6 to make a NC10-10.5.6.iso, but whenever I use ddmac to install, it says "Install Failed" "The installer could not locate the data it needed to install the software..."
I tried to redone to whole process almost 10 times now, and still having the same error...any idea?

Oh, forgot to mention. Here is what I did:
- use ddmac to installl nc10-10.5.5.iso
- boot into OSX successfully
- copy nc10-10.5.5.iso to the root partition (OSX in this case)
- copy DVDupgrade 10.5.6.mpkg and 10.5.6Combo to the root partition (osx again)
- run the package to upgrade nc10 10.5.5 to nc10 10.5.6
- use ddmac to install the nc10 10.5.6.iso

Dear Mysticus,

all is working perfectly !!! I only launch XP for take the screenshot you ask me... and reboot !
And now all is working perfectly ! .... biggrin.gif

i doubt you know what you are doing...

dvdupgrade 10.5.6 is used inside inside an osx install you dont ddmac it!

it upgrades a isos/ddmac partition that are mentioned

i explained the upgrade procedure! many times...

place 10.5.6 combo update in the root
place the iso in the root (iso= original jas?, nc10--ppf applied jas, nc10 10.5.5) with original names (if you anyhow changed the iso name it will not work!!!)
and run the dvd upgrade procedure... step 1 choosen, step2 only one option that correspend to your need choosen, step 3 choosen...

thats it!

tazevil: i m still looking into the issue for toucpad thing, but busy as well, it will take a bit of time...

darkgemini: tell me your current partitions? (for example, OSX1 your main osx installation, OSX2 data etc?..., Samsung NC10--ddmac partition name?)

tell me exactly where you copied the files? into your current working osx partition or into the ddmac partition? also what is the name of ddmac partition read?

what is the file name of the iso you upgrade?
 Mysticus C*
update news: with a little help from someone, we ll be solving the sleep issue as well guys smile.gif

more news tomorrow
darkgemini
my current partition settings are:
- first partition 20GB for XP Pro
- second Partition 30GB for OSX Main
- third partition 80GB NTFS for storage
- fourth partition 4.7GB FAT32 for ddmac named "Install"
- left over is unallocated

I copied all the necessarily files to OSX Main
ISO files name is SamsungNC10-10.5.6.iso
ddmac read partition as SamsungNC10-10.5.6

the file name of the iso I upgrade from is SamsungNC10-10.5.5.iso

I currently run the checksum to see if it match

update: MD5 doesn't match, something went wrong and I have no idea what went wrong...will try to redownload the combo update from Apple, and run the whole process one more time...
sim01
Hello,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Just to add my thoughts on the MD5 problems. I think perhaps the problem seems to be that everyone is referring to the *.iso checksum like there is only one iso. Possibly the differences in MD5 could be due to the fact that the MD5 will be different depending on the selection made during the DVDupgrade package process. I would guess that ddmac iso would have a different MD5 to the other two DVD iso options. I could be wrong, but just a thought... blink.gif
loa2000
Hi guys !

To retrieve the trackpad preference pane after update to 10.5.6, I found this http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=142466

Hope this helps...
 Mysticus C*
darkgemini:

what was the full name of your iso that you used to upgrade? (jas original? jas+ 1st ppf? nc10 10.5.5?)

1) you copied your first iso (the one that you are trying to upgrade) to root of osx main?
2) you copied 10.5.6 combo update to root of osx main?
3) you used the dvdupgrade mpkg to install osx main?

can you answer these questions?

also md5 will be different due to file sizes/dates and additional temp files being created inside iso image wen mounted...

sim01: correct md5 will be different due to reasons i mentioned above

loa2000: i will look into that and sure i will make one installer for that if it fixes the issue easy smile.gif
note: it doesnt fix the issue as it is....

THANK YOU MYSTICUS!! I am completely in awe of all the great work you have done!

I got an nc10 from a business partner for xmas as a thanks for the work I did for him this year. I had been telling him how cool it is that you can run OSX on it!

I have a couple of questions after reading the guide.

First, I want to buy a Leopard license for the nc10. Does it matter which build I buy? Will I use the disk at all for registering it? Ebay has some deals.

My nc10 is original, I have just downloaded the Official Combo disk, do I need NC10 DVD/ISO (Jas+NC10 PPF) or NC10 10.5.5 DVD/ISO (Jas+NC10 PPF) you mention in the guide?

if you have nothing in your hand right now: Download the torrent of the nc10 10.5.6 iso...
if you have original Jas 10.5.4 in hand, download the ppf and apply it with ppf=o=matic

i wouldnt go the ebay way to buy commercial software! go to a mac store and buy leopard disk, and you cant buy leopard license for a PC, but you can buy leopard disk... and you can install retail leopard disk as well if you use boot-132 methods but you will need some drivers... like the ones inside 10.5.6 update installer... but for boot132 methods you will need to do a bit of reading to understand... also i dont support it in my topic although it is a better option in the long term, but i know many noobs around that are able to brick things easily, so i dont wanna mess with dealing two installation methods...

Hi

i've been lurking and reading up on all this for a long time, and although a newbie have been realy careful and thorough, but now have a problem I can't find an answer to in this thread. Hope you can help with this...

Downloaded JAS 10.5.4.
Upgraded ISO to 10.5.6 using latest upgrade package, coupled with the combo update (resulting in Samsung-NC10-10.5.6.iso)
Followed guide to partitioning and used DDMAC with samsung iso
Bios settings set exactly as shown in pics
booted into OSX installer and formatted an osx partition as HFS Journaled.
installation seems to be going absolutely fine until it reaches time remaining 6 mins.

Then it hangs. Forever...

the only variable I can find which I've found no info on is when updating the original Jas 10.5.4 ISO, there was an option to update partition for DDMAC to 10.5.6. Does this need to be checked (I did check it, presuming if I were using DDmac i'd need to)

Any other ideas?
Any help appreciated

I've to DL jas 10.5.4 again because when I use MST MD5 (under xp) I don't have the same checksum number....

I've tried to patch jas 10.5.4 with nc10 10.5.6 ppf but the iso doesn't work

Great work with the updates and Install Packs. I had a preinstalled NC10 OSX 10.5.5 from your previous PPF method and updated to 10.5.6 this AM. No issues with the upgrade process or the reinstall of the NC10 Drivers.

My one issue right now is with the brightness script -- it works properly (again, thanks for the guide) but I am getting neither your icons nor RedRooster's icons when I activate the Script via Quicksilver trigger. I ran the update icon PKG from biketown but have not been able to get the "window dressing" to go along with the Script.

did you see the page 105 in pdf guide carefully? show window is selected... did you have it enabled before you save the commands? if no?, delete both hotkeys, and apply it again... but make sure you follow the guide carefully... step by step for each hotkeys! and you will have the icon showing...

Had Show Window checked on both. Gave it a reboot and re-did the Hotkeys -- now it works. Not sure if it was the reboot or the redo, but all is well now. Many thanks.

I am at the formatting stage following the Pdf meticulously and the last drive says unallocated not free space....so I cant make it a logical drive not sure why
so I have a healthy 34.18GB non formatted disk and a 37.82 unallocated doesnt show up as green still black unallocated. (this is why I hate windows) wink.gif

you need to make extended partition first >>> then create logical partitions in it with spesific sizes... smile.gif read the guide carefully... (also my mistake there some slides mixed up i think smile.gif )

create extended partition >> create logical partitions in the extended area... i will fix the slide over that area...

just to say I've got everything working as per Post 1 and it didn't take too long after I had burned the latest ISO.

I must have read all the postings on this thread three times over just to make sure I didn't do anything silly before doing the install.

The NC10 is even better now. I look forward to even more refinements to this project

Thanks to your tutorials works even brightness control.

But, never mind me Mysticus. I decided to go the other round which is using the Jas-to-NC10-10.5.6.ppf to upgrade the original Jas (had to pay Premium Account to get that file off RPS sad.gif ). MD5 checked is matched with your, so I think I'm good to go now

update news: with a little help from someone, we ll be solving the sleep issue as well guys smile.gif

I found that there are certain AppleACPIBatteryManager.kext bundles going around which cause the sleep problem - I upgraded to what looked like a more recent update, and then found that sleep required a reboot to restart the OS.

Reverting to my existing version (possibly 1.0.14) both gives accurate battery stats and power management without any sleep issues.

I've found that with 10.5.6, AppleACPIPlatform.kext is no longer needed - and if anyone is having sleep issues, it might be worth giving alternative BatteryManager extensions a go.

Merry Christmass everyone!

Well, I messed up my nc10 trying to get the xp partition to be smaller. Then I tried the Samsung XP restore disk, which put me into a standard XP install that crashed halfway through. I cannot get the install to work.

Then I tried remaking the main partition in the XP installer and thart didin't work. The Samsung bios appears to need the recovery partition to be working in order to boot into your xp partition. I don't think mine is working. Does anyone know how to setup the Samsungs partitions so it will boot in XP? Any online resources?

I have an Acronis backup of the xp partition before I fooled with it, and Acronis runs and restores the disc image, but bios still says no operating system. The bios will not boot from the restored partition and there is no setting in bios to change boot drive.

I was so close to installing the new ISO too!

I have read the full thread and now got a NC10.
But after installation I only see the apple logo a second and it reboots.
I am form Germany and have read sth. about a trick for that but I can´t find it.

But maybe this is another Problem because I can´s even see the Welcome screen. Only the apple logo for a second.

so kinda confused on what it could be?
any help?

Definitely interested in the trackpad solution, it's acting a little eratic for my liking OTB biggrin.gif

Everything installed great for me on my second attempt although I do have one small problem. I find that I have to hit F4 on startup to get the boot menu or else I just get a "OS not found" message (my heart sank when I first saw this). Is there anyway I can tidy this up so OSX boots automatically?

Cheers!

I am also interested in the trackpad solution.
But I have two other small problems.
1: How can I install the German language file.
I selected German as language but the main OS is still english.
2. I had an external monitor connected to the netbook and selected mirroring (or sth like that)
I got a crazy picture on both monitors.
I pluged the monitor off and everything was alright but when i connect the ex. monitor I always get this picture so I am not able to change mirroring. Is there an option to change this by key combination oder sth like that?
Hope you understand my english

Thanks
