Really interesing work and I await the latest files/guides with interest. Got my NC10 today and changed the wireless card to the 1490 which OSX picks up no problem. My XP skills are less impressive and although I downloaded the driver from the Dell site when I try and install it it fails - any one any ideas on what I need to do in XP?
PaulRF
Oh good call there is a special driver for it. (i got one for my 1505 may just work for yours too) . I dont remember the link but the file is called R151519.exe I heard something about the ones dell put out dont work with their own card. do a search for that.
Also myst c may have one

i dont wanna call the day off now but, i m tired, fixed all the errors, and hopefully release everytg by tomorrow... debugging some errors and finding solutions/workarounds are sometimes complicated due to overlooking at things that are simple... but it delays the work... i apologize again, tomorrow it will be definetely ready with everything...

paul: i will provide solution for your windows driver after i finish this project just be patient, it is not the drivers problem, it is how the drivers are defined in the installer... dell installer simply ignores even if it matches device id... due to other hardware id checks... but you can still install it different way, which i will provide solution for...
to all others:
i know many of you waiting for updated guide and it has been delayed due to different personal reasons but all i can tell u that i just tested the dvd upgrade, and it works beautifully

it will worth the wait... no artifacts whatsoever so far, everything works nicely (didnt check mirroring but it should not be a problem either...will see

)
brightness control implemented but not set up, which means you will need to follow the guide to set it up and you will be set to go... i made brightness icons as well, so every time u change brightness it will show symbols on screen as with volume controls

nice one this time

starting the guide screen captures and implement them into the pdf guide so you will visualize everything... (i keep saying it but definitely will worth the wait trust me)
my temporary hda solution is there as well (no hp but external mic works to some degree

) until the voodoo hda comes out (according to latest headsup, it works great, it just needs polishing parts now and internal testing is being done, after that selected external testers will test it and then finally will be released in the wide...)
now back to work and hopefully this time i will finish it since there is nothing left to do in the dvd part now...

thanks for all your hard work on this! i used your guide for setting the bios and partitions on my machine however so far I've had most success using the msiwindosx dvd, this has given me most of the functions i need.
Bluetooth
Sound
Wifi (dell 1490)
screen resolution
sleep
etc...
My only real issues are:
the usb weirdness, have you fixed this? when booted with a usb device it works fine but it won't mount new usb devices plugged in whilst the machine is running!
also the headphone switching, i have downloaded a modified switch.sh installed chud and aziliaaudio kext is present however i still can't seem to get the hadphones working!
also in theory is it possible to get the trackpad working like a macs? with multiple finger scrolls etc?
is there someway i can get these bad boys going?
Thanks again

Hey jifop...I dont want to be one of those guys who says read the forum from the beginning. Each one of your questions has been addressed. I am going to do one better and say.... you need to wait another day or so and the MYST c dvd will be ready, it will be better than the msiwind one as it will be tailored to your nc10....tat being said. The headphone issue was just mentioned not 3 posts back... hope this helps.

the only reason my guide didnt work for you is because you didnt read it carefully...
also what you mean by most success? nc10 dvd is better than msiwindosx due to the fact that it is customized for nc10!
and with the latest dvd upgrade option, it is contains latest chameleon bootloader, and drivers and settings that gives you brightness control! (if you set it correctly)
now dvd will be using ps2nub driver so that acpi and apic will be stock vanilla! as well...
you will have almost full vanilla except:
gma drivers (for known reasons)
hda drivers (for known reasons)
ich7x drivers (for known reasons)
and most needed additional drivers
disabler
natit
acpibatteryman
and hopefully soon, i will solve the sleep (in power) issue with help from dense kabyl or other modder guys
full audio is already in the works...
the only thing that would be a problem is pickiness of the user and ability to understand and follow the guides carefully...

i hit a bump on my test at the moment, i m not sure exactly why but guessing i updated right files but used wrong iso on my test

so retesting again... btw, guide is 99% finished as well...
as soon as i complete the test successfully i will wrap up the
guide + install pack (for other distro users) + dvd upgrade pack
i want to make sure that the system installs and runs correctly first only than i will release the files... i dont wanna mess up anyone's system...

for the torrent, i will not do it myself, but anyone wanna do it, welcomed to do so... just pm me if you have intentions of torrenting...

I received my NC10 the other day. Installed a custom XP I made by making a bootable USB drive. Great little machine!
I'm still waiting on my 1490, as well as Mysticus' updated patch. I'm also a little busy with work at the moment but hopefully I'll be able to install OS X after the new year and help any way I can.
Keep it up, Mysticus. You're the NC10 OS X hero.

I would totaly seed it torrent wise. But first I need a finalized approved version. as masterful as I am with computers this process seems quite complicated. Would love to just take a finalized nc10 dvd with 10.5.6 on it restore the cd to a usb drive and install from there. 44 min later everything "poifect"

boot from os selection and enter to ready desktop state is 28 secs!

great ey?
now back to wrapping up the installer and guide with the latest pics

wait is almost over...
==============================================
adam: do you have os x (nc10 early version or jas?) installed? and if so which iso do you have in hand ready?
because the upgrade iso process is very painless and takes only 1 min

and will output a nc10 10.5.6 iso instantly... once you have the iso in hand, all you will need to do will be copy it to the windows partition and restart for the ddmac guide from windows to have a complete clean install...

I downloaded the JaS 10.5.4 via torrent, have absolutely no idea if its a valid install.
28 seconds isn't bad... not bad at all.
by the way I am having a friend install the latest unibody MBP onto my mac. to get those Multitapusb kexts... if I find them I will figure out a way to send them to you....perhaps we can incorporate..
what is this this sound switch thing....does that mean when you pop your headphones in it plays only thru headphones and when you unplug them it plays only thru speakers?
can we also have pictures on the brightness HUD is it the same look and feel and the OEM?
thanks

i dont think you will be a good candidate at the moment for current projects related help... w/o knowledge you will cause more delay for me than good

script is different thing than what you say, apparently you have no idea...
you have to run the script every time you wanna switch between hp and speakers doesnt work auto...
i made some patched drivers but it doesnt switch either, most likely trouble with codecs...
for brightness i already made pics etc, not great one of course (if anyone have better idea? design? let me know) but it works just one...

Oh I totally understand what a script is, I write scripts all the time... However, I didn't realize that was our only option (kinda sucks but if it is the best we can hope for, oh well) Does it work the same way on XP?
Myst you dont have to respond right away to my inquiries. I'd rather you dedicate your time to the cause. But, let me know if there is something i can do otherwise.

Congrats and many thanks Mysticus C* and all the other contributors here
for making this thread such a precious resource for us nc10 owners.
Could you please also carry on with upgrade packs as well as the ppf
patches for the JaS iso, as so far I have used those on my msiwindosx
installation and everything is working as it should.
I should point out that my nc10 was installed on an mbr partition scheme,
because I have upgraded to a 500gb western digital scorpion blue drive
and I have a dell 1390 installed.
1st Partition is Primary 100.12gb Macintosh HD (journalled)
2nd is Primary 100gb Windows HD (ntfs)
3rd is 244.14gb Media (ntfs) holds video and music
4th is 21.48gb SHARE (fat32) for sharing files between mac and windows.
It is much faster than the standard drive that comes with the nc10 and
seems very fast and responsive.
I am running msiwindosx upgraded to 10.5.6 which was first upgraded
to 10.5.5 downloaded from Apple and using Mysticus C*'s nc10 1.0 package,
Then by downloading 10.5.6 from Apples web site and using Mysticus C*'s
ver 1.1 upgrade package.
I prefer to upgrade than re-install, as I have much information and data
on my osx install as well as my itunes library.
Saying that i did have to re-install earlier today as i messed up doing the
10.5.6 update with the nc10 1.0 package.
Luckily i have my original 160gb drive in a sata > usb hard drive dock from
Maplins and after installing msiwindosx again transferred my settings / data
with the mac option to transfer settings from another mac.
This worked like a dream although it did stall at the step of transferring network settings
and after waiting nearly an hour for it to end I did the only thing i could and turned it
off via the power button. once restarted I had everything back and had to do the 10.5.5
and 10.5.6 upgrades again, this time using the nc10 1.1 update pack for 10.5.6
I have not tried the brightness solution yet as I am not yet versed in scripts
and like everyone else the audio solution is not perfect, but at the moment
I am using a usb headset when the need arises for a mic, but I am a very
very happy bunny.
Everything is working as expected and I would like to say a great big thankyou
to Mysticus C* and everyone else in this thread who have contributed to make
this the most valuable nc10 resource on the forum.

Anybody have found an new issue to the probleme of resolution ?
Sometimes the windows, are hiding cause the resolution is 1024x600 (and no 768)
I' had read a topic where you can change it by typing line commands.
But maybe does it exist a more simple solution ?
Thanks

mbato: thanx for donation
there is a ppf for 10.5.4 jas to convert it to 10.5.4 nc10 iso...
i dont have a ppf to convert the 10.5.4 jas to a 10.5.6 nc10 dvd due to(1.5gb file size) but considering it now

rather than sending 4.4 gb...
probably will be ready in 2-3 hrs :S
tazevil: it is not a solution really the thing you are talking about, it is faking resolution! if you do it you will see more area but lesser detail, and fonts/icons etc all will start to look weird... Each program will have different results so you will start messing your system...

Thanks for new files and all the hard work. I found the Bike Town instructions really helpful to use in conjunction with the Adobe pdf instructions when I did my version 1 install. I am currently somewhat confused since I still have my original NC10 modified Jas 10.5.4 ISO and don't know whether I use this again in the new Version 2 process? Since i still have one hour for the 10.5.6 Combo download to complete I will see if other posts make things clearer.

Dec 22 2008, 06:02 PM
mbato: yes correct!, jas 10.5.4 to nc10 10.5.6 ppf... *but ppf will be about ~1.5GB*
sl3: will see what i can do about it

paul: your problem is the easiest to solve

put your nc10 modified iso to root of your current working partition (no name change pls, exactly how it is originally)
put combo update 10.5.6 to root of your current working partition, and run the dvd upgrade 10.5.6
this process will convert your current nc10 10.5.4 dvd to a nc10 10.5.6 dvd iso
with the new dvd iso in hand, copy it your windows xp partition (either using an external drive or paragon ntfs)
and start reading the new pdf guide... (you can remove all previously created partitions and start new guide-- with recover partition and xp partition in hand, remove all others? and read the guide further you will understand)

I'm sorry but what does the "NC10 10.5.6 Install package" do?
Mysticus C*
Dec 22 2008, 06:30 PM
install package is for people who does not want to upgrade their iso/dvd/ddmac partitions... who just want to UPDATE to 10.5.6 natural ways...
you can just simply do an update to 10.5.6 as explained below, but i higly suggest readin the new guide (with new partitioning) and start a fresh install of 10.5.6 using ddmac ( for 10.5.6 you need a 10.5.6 iso, dvd upgrade package takes your jas 10.5.4 or nc10 10.5.4 or nc10 10.5.5 iso or ddmac partition and convert it to nc10 10.5.6 iso or ddmac)
you will need to download apple delta update 10.5.6 manually and install it, after that install the 10.5.6 install package, aand when you restartm you will gain all your functions back again...
also some of you are using efi partitions, so they can grab the files inside the install package and use them manually...
clear?

Honestly, if we could all be using the same properly patched and up-to-date 10.5.6 NC 10 ISO, it would be really good. If Mysticus uploads his 1.5GB 10.5.6 PPF, I'll patch the JaS 10.5.6 ISO and seed it via the Pirate Bay. Just downloading that would save people some time.

Hey Mysticus, hey guys,
something I found out and I just wanted to post here:
The Welcome-Loop-issue only happens if there is no network-card (Airport) recognized. In this case I think, it's not just an issue with german NC10's.
So, I did the update to 10.5.6 by using the delta update. Worked perfectly. But the trackpad prefpane is no longer present (it's not available in system settings). So I can't adjust anything. Anybody else got this problem?
Today I've installed the NC10 10.5.6 Install Package. Installation was successfull but after restarting and also repairing permissions I have no battery status in my menu-bar and my NC10 is no longer shown as MacBook Air at the systemprofiler, now it's shown as NC10. Well, I know that it's no MacBook Air, but as MacBook Air I can use the remote disc automatically, that's a good advantage.
So, how can I use or install the new drivers from the 10.5.6 Install Package but let OSX think that the NC10 is a Macbook Air? And is there any workaround for the trackpad?
Thanks for help and ideas
