On my old PowerBook I had either aMsn or Adium both pretty well supported and cover most clients, try those out they should both support video as well if you want to get your webcam on.

Got my NC10 all updated and running fine.

Decided against the JaS download and just updated my Installed MSIwindOSx86
with your upgrade pack and instructions....

Only scary thing that happened was some of the updates from apple after the main updates
and drivers came up with the your computer needs to restart black box.

This happened a couple of times after the main update reboots , but I carried on
and now it says my computer is up to date on apple update.

Fixed all file permissions all working fine ..... apart from i have first primary partition
as OSX drive and second primary as windows and cannot get parallels or vmware fusion to
function. The OSX drive is the active partition and I am using Darwin Bootloader as my OS
boot selector.


VMware fusion 2.1 kills the install dead and requires a reinstall.
Parallels refuses to use the bootcamp disk named Windows HD.

Apart from this and some slow disk access it is working amazingly well as
shown in the xbench results below... Again many thanks.

Will hopefully at some point soon mod in an internal usb mobile broadband dongle and if i get
the guts to maybe ruin my beloved sambook / macsung ??? Then I will buy an intel atom dualcore
desktop board and get an engineer friend of mine to do processor swap-out..

Simply put he works in aerospace industry and has all the knowledge and tools to do complex

+ update issue of having KP is caused by not having disable kext, this happens from appleintelcpupowermanagement.kext if you have the disabler kext (which comes with nc10 dvd)
+ what you can do is while you have a system right now, use my upgrade instructions for current jas/nc10 isos and upgrade it... post #385
+ rather than mobile broadband mod, i suggest doing touchscreen mod, you can have your mobile broadband as usb in your pocket anyway... but touchscreen kit is way better and usefull
+ i doubt atom dual core will work in the same cpu part of the mobo because first it may have more connecter points? it is quite hard to do by hand soldering considering the size of these cpus it may use different bus/fsb speeds? but still may be possible to swap if your friend have all the precision tools and knowledge...

g4-flo: i will make the pm package and cfget fix today hopefully when i ve enough time and post it as a test package...

Everyone whose swapped out the wifi card, does the Network interface show as a USB Ethernet (en0), and not connect automatically, and the menubar doesn't change when you connect to a network?

if you used a usb card, it will show as usb, if u used one of the dell dw 1490 or 1500 series.. it should show built in... it should connect auto...

also it would be better if you did give information regarding your wireless card how can we know what you are using?

torpie: i did in a different way using taruga patches but didnt work, caused kernel panics etc.. but will try this to see if it help, but i read somewhere that 272 codecs are new and not supported by applehda thats probably why it doesnt work... anyways i ll test and see how it goes, and if it works, i can put the driver in an installer just dont put too much hope on this yet...

in my opinion best way is to use azalia driver since it has the codec, it would be easier to start with... i m just speculating but it would be the logical choice, however it needs someone like taruga to work it out since he is the one behind taruga hda patcher...

so I've found a french.pkg ; after installation all osx was in french , but since i did i left shutdown
when I close the nc10 or when I push power button in order to select shutdown the screen is off but the led of wifi is on (i don't have wifi cause i didn't change the card)

before the french.pkg shutdown was ok ; I don't understand

french.pkg is for leo 10.5.4 ; so this can make a difference ? (i've installed on 10.5.5)

About partition I've an USB cd recorder so I wonder if i could change partition like this :
primary 1 windows (ntfs)
primary 2 data for xp (ntfs because large files)
primary 3 data xp/mac (fat32)
primary 4 OSX

or instead of primary 2 and 3 : one logical and 2 extended
so OSX will be on primary 2

I'll use gparted for partitionning and I already have a ghost for xp with true image

Sorry, I should have re-stated the model number. It's a Dell 1390 Mini PCI-e card that I'd used in my Asus, and under OSX on the Asus EEE 701 worked as expected, recognised as an Apple card etc.


However, under System Profiler on the NC10, the Airport Card is listed as a Third Party Wireless Card, which explains that bit, and *always* says "Airport is currently turned off" despite having a live connection and IP address.

Wondering if this is something that's been chopped out of the JaS installer for these cards?

btw, I'm in no way questioning you or trying to be smart Mysticus, I'm immensley grateful for all your hard work, and looking forward to being able to travel back and forth from Spain with OSX on a laptop half the size of usual

it appears to be 1390s are older and maybe slightly different than 1490... it shows third party on my system too, but doesnt have any problem with auto connecting or staying off or anything...

u can see the status on (u can even turn it off as well) and it connects to whatever network u sorted for it... once it is saved, it always connects to preferred networks in the list...

we said 1490 works better many times, but people dont listen, and go for coupld usd/gbp etc cheaper model, and have trouble...

none of the 1490-1500 owners complained so far, and so far 1390 owners are the only ones complaining... have a saying, you got what you pay for j/k... i dont know the reason behind it but 1390s have some trouble... and i didnt chop main stuffs from the system, everything comes vanilla and only certain additional drivers...

Mysticus, I just finished re-installing Samsung-NC10-10.5.5.iso, and everything work properly OTB as expected. Install Paragon NTFS, so that I can r/w to ntfs partition. I hope that you can sort out the battery management problem, thank you

All sorted. I created a new Network Interface, and it immediately put in Airport, so I set that and deleted the USB Ethernet, and voila, all perfect. No idea why this happened. Think it may have been to do with a USB stick I used straight after installation, but before swapping the wifi cards.

He has already answered the question about the battery-icon missing from the tray.

i m going to sort out all those battery icon issues once for all... i m trying to figure out to fix audio if i can understand the entire process... (my understanding is 50/50 at the moment and looks like it needs quite a bit of attention to detail in this thing... if the custom codec creation works, we can actually make, internal speaker,mic out, spdif out, internal mic... work and get rid of azalia... however it is a bit of luck as well, i dont know really if the hda will work correctly or not... and this thing requires a bit of reading to understand...

please be patient... and if this work it will well worth the wait fingers crossed but dont put too much hope/expectation for it to work instantly, as i have no clue if it will work or not... if it does, it will be great

darkgemini: if u want quick fix, just delete appleacpibattery.kext in extensions folder for battery meter to come back... and stop asking questions every other post, and read the topic a bit as well... some questions have been all answered, i m just trying to put together everything working once for all, and once done, i will put all the info/packages/install guides in the first page... right now i m busy with my own life as well, and at the same time doing these things, takes time...

torpie: i hope it will, i ve been working on this whole day damn reading codec dump and converting to correct values, is simple but painful as it requires so much manual work here and there, and painfully long time needed...

codec part is the easiest part... hard part is to test... (about 21 codecs are defined= 21 times testing to find right working one!)

not to mention that when i check the hda's binary, and found out that 7x10ec (realtek's international hex id) and i dont know exactly how many of them really refers to a device id (0c0010ec-026210ec-088510ec-240410ec-835310ec-83d210ec-83e510ec)

i dont know yet but it looks like a lot of testing is on the way to figure out 7x21=147tests (since i dont know which ones refer to device id, i need to test them) i dont know but lets hope it works...

finishing the codec hex now, pretty much as it looks except the last --F-- part which is a bit confusing...

mujol: i dont know about french package, but for your primary partition question yes you can, as long as osx is on a primary partition and does not come after an extended partition!

dontbefkeith: use the nc10 package 1.1.0 package if you used nc10 dvd with 10.5.4... better driver is in nc10 1.1.0 package... but dont know about if it fixes vertical/horizontal speed issues... u can try and test

I had the same problem with the german package. Just get the French package from any 10.5 DVD (or maybe from somewhere else) and install it. You might need onyX to find the file on the DVD or in the package as it is a hidden file.

today i've received my Broadcom wireless 1390 (not from dell, directly a broadcom without branding and cheaper) and it works perfectly! And since it is installed there is no longer the cfget...UUID-message in the console!!!

after doing all the automatic updates today as I'm having no internet on the nc10, the Prefpane for Keyboard&Mouse doesn't work anymore.
If I click on it, it's trying to load the prefpane, but nothing happens.

Any Idea? Or how can I solve that?

i dont know really didnt check any latest updates yet... you can reapply the nc10 1.1 package with nc10 option only...

Solved the keyboard prefpane-issue: It's only if the system is in german. If I turn the system into english the prefpane works as usual.

ok guys some bad news and good news:

bad news: leopard hda drivers dont seem to wanna load...

(hope it is) good news: i checked for tiger drivers and see some light... it contains ich7 hda reference! meaning we may be able to get this running just hope...

1 step closer: it appears that i made a loadable applehda kext, but refusing to load due to layout-id property which means there is one one thing i need to find out, if it can load we will(maybe) finally able to get full audio support... hang on there... fingers crossed, and hopes are more than average...

note: either our codec (027210ec) will not load, or i m missing something fundamental...

it looks as if i hit another wall, i m overlooking something but i cant tell at the moment... if i cant find it, i will look into modding the azalia, since it loads fine, but correct mapping is not working for nodes (input/mixer/pin = each function in a sound card, like mic, input, line out, int speaker, hp, mic in, line in etc...)

I am currently making a soup right now, mixed with applehda and azaliaaudio controller all mixed up to load partitial load up the driver lets see how it goes...

i m quite pissed at the moment, bcoz worked on this for a long time, and it does not wanna work correctly, my last couple of tests, and if it doesnt work, conclusion will be 0272 codec is not supported with current driver architecture.... cant think any other solution, so trying to mix up azalia with the hda

Why is it sound works on the Dell Mini 9 but doesn't work on most other netbooks. Does the mini 9 use the same chipset as the Sammy or different codec.

Great job on making the NC10 DVD dude, work fine on my machine.

What I did:
1 - Disk Utility to partition as GUID and 2 partition
2 - Install NC10 DVD on 1st partition
3 - Install Vista32 on the second partition
4 - use boot132 USB key to get on Leopard as Vista broke the bootloader
5 - Install Chameleon bootloader
6 - Reboot to check that Leopard is fixed

To get battery status back:
7 - Deleted Powermanagement.bundle
8 - Rename Powermanagement.bundle.orig (I assume the 10.5.4 vanilla) to powermanagement.Bundle
9 - Installed superhai's ACPIBattery.kext
(Sleep works only on battery and from choosing Sleep from drop down menu or Fn-Esc only, closing the lid do nothing, just switched off display. May need clamshell.kext like the one eeePC 1000H user used, going to read more into it)

To get proper processor name on About this Mac.
10 - Use OSX86Tools (Autoset CPU Info)

Currently internal speaker is working just fine with the HDA driver like in the azalia driver scenerio!

Things to do:

+ Headphone mapping so that when you choose headphone it will work.... Currently when you choose headphone it sends the sound to something so no sound, however when you choose the internal speaker it works in internal speaker so not bad sign

+ Internal Mic showing but not working yet, I need to correctly map those devices one at a time (which takes 5-10 maybe more test for each until i get the correct configuration! but at least it shows up

+ External Mic Jack, currently not showing but it was not defined either, so another work to do!

+ System profiler in audio pan is showing, Speaker - Internal correct!, Mic 1/8 inc jack wrong as 1/8 jack is for external but we gotta fix it so it is on to do list!

Note: I almost abandoned the project and only in my last trial it worked I said hell with that, but damn it worked, so it looks like it will trouble me more

Volume controls working just fine, if hp works, no switching or anything just volume control will do it...

OK guys, I m kind of tired at the moment, my testing continues but, i will stop for a while to take a rest...

WORKING:
+ Internal speaker is working
+ Audio preference showing HP, Internal Speaker, 2 x Internal Mic
+ System profiler showing internal speaker, microphone jack

Not Working/Partitialy Working:
+ Internal Microphone 1 does not seem to be working (mapping or pinconfig problem?)
+ Internal Microphone 2 seems to be working but input power is quite low (due to amplifier issues)
+ HP is showing although not working. Though switching between HP and Internal Speaker is seemless
+ System profiler is not showing HP and internal microphone 1 due to either mapping or pinconfig

Possibilities:
+ Headphone may/may not work due to mapping/pinconfig/other settings/ or/ at worst case scenerio driver issue?
+ Internal Mic somehow worked or showed some signs at some of my trials but does not seem to work now...
+ External Mic (as seen in system second internal mic) has low input issue... So either settings or amplifier issue

Anyone want to help testing? fixing? free to do so... I worked on this thing quite a long time, and no response/help from people who made their topics, so it is kind of hard to work alone... anyone with knowledge welcomed to help... or know someone who has good knowledge would also be usefull..

I believe now that we may be able to get this thing fully work given the results

Ive restarted now and am trying to complete the setup assistant, but it keeps looping!

I mean it just lets me get as far as saying that I dont want to copy any info over from another mac, and then it plays the intro movie again and starts all over... Very odd, everything else has gone smoothly so far. Any ideas?

the issue seems to be happening on german versions at the moment, some other users had this and solved booting into safe mode and running a command, i forgot now, any german friends? please answer this question so others can see your solution...

just curiosity, do you choose german language at first screen when it asks about language country etc? if yes, please try choosing english keyb/language initially (you will be able to change it from system preferences again later) and try again? if it does not work, then like other german friends did, u ll need to go to safe mode...
