Hi, I am sorry for my ruthness as I have not read all pages in this threath before writing here my first post. I am following your work already longer and I just found http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=138351
I am not sure if you have seen this. When this will be in the package?
Cant wait to find some spare time and install osx in my nc10.

it has been mentioned many times...

most likley it will not be in the package due to following reasons:

the method is merely a new driver... rather a workaround...
it is more trouble and less reliable... although it works in the end...
it will give me and others so much headache trying to give instructions on people who have no clue about what they are doing...
if you read it carefully, it will give u lotsa KPs and will work after some trials... also dont forget you have to run the kismac and close it before you can use the wifi...

long story short, it is trouble for noobs and experienced users to debug noobs inability to get it to work due to nature of the method... if official drivers or somewhat patched more stable and less troublesome comes out, i ll include it, else, nope...

hi mysticus c*,

once you replaced your atheros wifi card, will it be en0 or en1 for the new card?

if it is recognized it should be en0 auto... but in future if lan gets recognized as well, it may change the order...

UPDATE NEWS!
=============

Ladies and Gents.... I can announce now that I overcome the 10.5.5 update issue caused by the glob.pm thingy... it installed and running perfectly... smile.gif

Now i know the reason (partitally smile.gif, because i didnt extensively check the entire content individually but it works now), the problem is solved... smile.gif...

Expect the OTB 10.5.5 NC10 dvd upgrade procedure soon... smile.gif later i can even provide the OTB 10.5.6 upgrade procedure...

Now problematic part solved.... I can make my script to convert your 10.5.4 nc10 dvd iso to a 10.5.5 and later 10.5.6 OTB smile.gif cool ey?

Note: Dont get confused about 10.5.5 update thing i mentioned above, it is related to making the dvd 10.5.5 OTB so you dont need to update it when you needed to install it..... Current one is working, but now I made another progress which will make it even better! You will have 10.5.5 OTB and everything working OTB... apart from teh known issues...

What is next?

+ Prepare the scripts and files for 10.5.5 dvd iso upgrade... (for this you will need to have osx running first... and download 10.5.5 combo update, and put it in the project directory... more info will given later... ppf is another alternative however, it will be a 600mb ppf due to the 10.5.5 combo package which i dont really wanna do but who knows i may do it...)

+ Will still need to edit the post#1 which i didnt do yet...

+ Modify the current guide for the ddmac procedure... sorry it took long, but 10.5.5 procedure was bugging me...

more news later...

myi4u: it is en0 smile.gif first recognized gets the first enX address

I have been using my new NC10 for a few days now.
Dell 1390 and 2 Gb RAM have been installed and OS X 10.5.5 is running quite nicely.

Somewhere earlier in this topic the following has been mentioned:
"headphone switching works with only script + CHUD package installed, programs unfortunately not working at the moment..."

So, where I can find that script you're talking about?

Audieee + CHUD is currently installed, but unfortunately that combination is not working with the headphones.

Thanks in advance and keep up the good work.

Mysticus, should I update to 10.5.5 with the NC 1.0 Installer now or wait for your NC1.1.0? Since it has many enhanced fixed
If I update it now, will I still able to use NC10 1.1.0 Installer?

If I update it now, will I still able to use NC10 1.1.0 Installer?

use 1.1.0 as this:

+ first install official combo update 10.5.5 (or delta update 10.5.5 since you already have 10.5.4 no need for 10.5.5 combo)
+ do not restart after the official update, minimize it!!!
+ run 1.1.0 installer
+ choose nc10 and update fixer before restart (no need to choose permissions fix)
+ once everything finished? you can restart and wait patiently while it restarts one more time... dont panic it is normal and comes from the original update!

================================
TO EVERYONE:
================================
I worked out all the kinks in the upgraded dvd... so i ll make the files and script available tonight/or/tomorrow morning/ hopefully...
+ this procedure will require you to have an original Jas, or NC10 -- ISO file
+ you will need to run terminal with 2-3 easy line of codes and all will work automatically... (codes u ll need to run will be: sudo su, pass, cd /dvdupgrade, ./dvdjas.sh or ./dvdnc10.sh, rest will be done automatically)
================================
After the Upgrade: You will have a 10.5.5 nc10 dvd... currently it is not important as many of you already installed 10.5.4... and updated it to 10.5.5 however this is an important step for future updates! smile.gif you can always keep latest copy of the dvd and no need to update it again when you make a brand new install...
===============================
I know that there are still some minor issues but i m working on this thing alone, and things take time, so i rushed most of the things, and have minor issues, which i will iron out one by one, and this thing will be near perfect smile.gif

As you can see i made a dvd ppf ready in 1.5 days and 2-3 days found a procedure to get 10.5.5 implemented into current dvd project (in theory i can apply this ppf thing to any current dvd as well smile.gif i like the jas version becuase of its plainness, and apart from certain necessary files, everything is vanilla here... smile.gif i dont use msiwind because of the boot 132 procedure...
=============================
Ok back to work now... smile.gif cheers..

Thank you for your guide Mysticus, and I'm so sorry for keep asking you question 'cause I'm first time Mac user here
Things I run into right now on NC10 OSX 10.5.4
- scrolling seem not to work
- It doesn't detect my battery, in fact it doesn't show the battery icon at all
- The Apple Key is the Alt instead of the Windows Key
- Windows cannot move above the menu bar

Other than that, it runs very smooth thank to your work
where can I get the delta update 10.5.5? ----Found it guys, it's on Apple site

Thank your very much, Mate

- For the battery issue, please check the post 248 of this topic. You can find it from the page 13. Works as a charm.
- You can re-assign some of your keyboard buttons in System Preferences under Keyboard & Mouse >> Keyboard >> Modifier Keys...
You can assign the Command key to be "Windows" button, or what ever you want.
- In OS X you're not able to move any window above the menu bar. That's just a way how it works. We have to admit that in some cases 10" screen is just a little bit too small. wink.gif
- Your scrolling issue is something which doesn't ring my bell. You mean the scrolling with mouse or what?
darkgemini
it's the scrolling area on the right side of the trackpad. Is it normally don't work in Mac also

Update:
- Just fixed the battery issue using post 248 method. Thank RealRooster

If we cann't not move window above menu bar, is there anyway to resize the windows...I mean some of the windows (setting, space setting...) won't let you resize by draging the corner...can we resize them to make it visible
mudzilla
I too have the Dell 1390 in my NC10, and it shows up as a USB Ethernet (en0) in the Network Prefs.

It never autoconnects, and if the Airport icon is in the men bar, I can't connect with it, as it never allows me to turn the Airport on. I can turn it on in the Network Prefs pane, then select my network, but have to do this everytime I boot up.

Any clues?

I have been using the USB mouse all this time, so didn't notice that earlier. Well for me at least that's not a show stopper.

Unfortunately you cannot change the size of all windows. You need that corner with lines in order to change the size.
I don't have any work around for that either, so you just have to live with it.
Unless you change your screen resolution temporary to little bit higher and so would able to see the whole window.
http://forums.msiwind.net/mac/change-resol...deye-t5777.html
I haven't tried that, so I'm not even sure will it work with NC10.

darkgemini:
+ resizing works only from the bottom right corner of each window... that is teh way it works in osx
+ scrolling from side of touchpad is a driver related issue, and does not work with current drivers and i dunno if it ever worked in real macs that way either...
+ keyb/mouse menu in system settings for tapping from the touch pad and/or changing couple of key assignments of the keyboard (only 3-4 keys are allowed not the entire layout... so some certain keys still will not be in where they should be due to the custom layout of keys on these netbooks)
+ the battery issue is caused by one driver which i explained earlier as rooster mentioned, i forgot one driver which causes conflict... to enable battery read the post rooster mentioned...

+ for the delta update, just learn to use google please... google is very handy if you know how to use keywords... clue? 10.5.5 delta update apple, see the first link comes out smile.gif not that hard?

Thank you Mysticus, I successfully update mine to 10.5.5. I actually found the delta update (using goolge) before you told me to smile.gif smile.gif

I also found this guide which claim to enable the two fingers scrolling in Synaptic trackpad. I haven't try yet, but I think it should work because NC10 does has multi-touch Synaptic pad.

Will make a donation when I go back from school

i know the trackpad drivers and i read those long time ago, but those drivers have some issues as well... i may include this work around and patches, but it will not be in the main package, more likely test packages section...

I am currently testing some vanilla drivers for the acpi issue (in the sleep function, when the power is connected system wakes up immediately due to some usb activity where as it does not happen when on battery only... this is indicating an acpi control issue... when on power keeps feeding current to usb ports, and stops it when on battery only)

dunno the outcome yet but will see...

in the mean time, i m finally wrapping up the dvd upgrade scripts so that it will work smoothly...

I had a look at that guide, the first thing it mentions is that
*CARE* DO NOT USE THIS WITH A SENTELIC PAD (corners already scroll) It seems to stop the mouse working at all without a driver reinstall.
which is essentially what the NC10 has, i.e. the scrolling bar on the right and also along the bottom of the touchpad, so i would try it with caution if not at all, although the NC10 does the functions of the Synaptic trackpad it would be a bit of a pain trying to find the drivers for the mouse if it is indeed sentelic.

I haven't tried that, so I'm not even sure will it work with NC10.

I tried the method in the above link and it works, I changed the resolution to 1280x750, but it's a bit hard to see as the fonts become very small, I think it's not good for our eyes.

Is it necessary to update the nc10 1.1 package for the guys who already installed the 1.0 package with 10.5.5 update?

Is it possible to use a retail version of leopard instead of the iso version and still loosely follow the guide that Mysticus C wrote?

the dvd project i brought out installs pretty much everything in vanilla (original form) to certain level where you need the patched drivers in order to get PM, keyb/touchpad/vga/audio working... apart from the drivers in nc10 pack, the dvd will be pretty much vanilla smile.gif retail leo install requires an installed osx... you cant directly install it, simply because it will not install bootloader that is needed to boot it... smile.gif

+ you need an osx version installed before you can do the retail install...
+ you can follow everything else, but i ll not give too much support anything other than nc10 dvd, it makes it hard to track down user errors and dvd contents/drivers...
 Mysticus C*
Update News:

+ DVD Upgrade Project is working however I will not release a ppf (not that i didnt do, but it became 1.5 gb of difference smile.gif meaning ~700 mb combo update + other small packages, and removing ~1gb of data from original dvd... etc... i still dont think it should be that big, but no way i m releasing 1.5 gb ppf)

+ On the other hand, If i use only the script, it will be only 30-40 mb range... but you will still need to download combo 10.5.5 update and put it in the project directory before running the script or maybe installer will handle everything smile.gif

Another issue that as soon as you are on 10.5.5 system, you will get an error in the console saying something like:
CODE
mDNSResponder[23] WARNING: sandbox_init error Could not set Mach lookup policy for service com.apple.bsd.dirhelper err=1100Could not set Mach lookup policy for service com.apple.distributed_notifications.2 err=1100Could not set Mach lookup policy for service com.apple.ocspd err=1100Could not set Mach lookup policy for service com.apple.mDNSResponderHelper err=1100Could not set Mach lookup policy for service com.apple.SecurityServer err=1100Could not set Mach lookup policy for service com.apple.SystemConfiguration.configd...

this is notthing to do with the dvd or installation process: It is caused by 10.5.5 update and all the macs are effected as well! smile.gif security update 2008-07 solves this problem... After installing the dvd, i made software update to update everything... it worked just fine... didnt do any trick.. and the error is gone...
 Mysticus C*
Currently the dvd upgrade project is ready, but procedures involved makes me think twice so it is delaying a bit...

Project works perfectly fine on my system, however many of you have jas original and/or nc10 dvd (both dvd iso names are same but mounted volume names are different)... and some of you are already using ddmac image on the hdd (meaning if the iso is mounted again it will have a duplicate name with "1" addition in the name)...

I m just trying to make the process involve all the possibilities so that NOOBs dont mess up everything... process is fairly simple but because of the variety of possibilities makes this process slow to implement so it will work in all conditions... Sorry for the delay... smile.gif
eddy_ridley
ok well search for the jas and the nc10 dvd's found the jas with 30k download speed. so any idea's of a fast download link please? or will i be better off waiting for this new update dvd ?

UPDATE NEWS:

DVD upgrade procedure is done, testing now smile.gif with all the possible combinations to make sure everything runs correctly...

Once the tests done, i will make the packages ready along with the instructions... soon...

eddy: you still need Jas dvd... i will not share the full dvd... maybe once finished, someone can torrent it... but i wont... smile.gif

Hello all first of all a huge thanks to Mysticus C*
I'm running the msiwind0sx86.iso(took me a long time to download) and sadly i don't think i'd have the patience to download the jas one,as a user said wi-fi is now possible using the stock wi-fi card but does anyone know how to update the msiwindosx86.iso to 10.5.5 when i tried(around four times)i just get the Boot, crash, reboot, select mac os,crash, reboot.

And sadly the airport extreme update to possibly get the stock wi-fi card working needs 10.5.5

Iv got my device to recognize the card but it won't work without the airport extreme update

Any ideas?
thanks smile.gif

ARE YOU SURE IT IS SAMSUNG NC10 STOCK WIFI WORKS AFTER AIRPORT UPDATE? AND NOT THE MSI WIND WIFI?

have not heard from anyone get the stock wifi working with airport update only... we know that there is a way, a painful way to make it work, but not with the stock drivers without patching...

for your update to 10.5.5, you need to set bios options correctly, see my pdf guide page 54!

and i m not gonna provide any package solution specific to msi wind...

if you dont have patience to download jas, you will need to figure out the kinks on your nc10 on your own mate... sorry, someone else may help but i will not go down the way to debug msi wind problems errors issues etc...

current ppfed dvd is perfectly fine and will get even better very very soon smile.gif DVD Project is FINISHED...

Here is a sneak peak:

I need to upload the files to bike town and write the necessary instructions although it is straight forward, you need to copy the iso and (download) combo update pkg file to root of your working osx partition... (iso copy is not necessary for ddmac partition upgrade, iso is needed for iso upgrade, however combo update pkg is still needed to up copied to root...)

Wait is almost over... I m just tired to upload, and write down any info at the moment... smile.gif

cheers and thanx for patience...

RT91: You are wrong mate, it is not official drivers that allows it, you need to use kismac program, change io80211 driver and still u need to overcome kernel panics... it is not stock drivers at all, process is painful. and it has been mentioned many times already... currently if you want peaceful wifi, get yourself a dw 1490 or 1500 series dell mini wifi card...

else you will need to wrestle with some drivers and kernel panics also will need patched driver all the time until official support comes...

OK FINALLY i am making the dvd upgrade process available... smile.gif

+ Before you begin, you need to download MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.5.pkg combo update from apple (note that this file is inside the combo update dmg image, and you need to copy MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.5.pkg file not the DMG image!) and place/copy the MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.5.pkg file to the root of your working partition
+ If you are upgrading an DVD ISO image, you need to put the original named JAS iso (JaS.OSx86.10.5.4.Client.Server.Intel.SSE2.SSE3.iso) to the root as well...
+ What is root? It is the top level of any partition... Better understand this way, like in windows, root is C:\ or D:\ or E:\ etc... C:\Windows is not a root! it is a sub folder... smile.gif got it? Same in OSX open finder and drop the files to top level, not inside any folder...

There are two steps involved! And one option from each step is necessary... do not choose more that one option from step 2!

Step 1: Necessary project files... (this is excluding the MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.5.pkg official combo update from Apple so you need to download and put it in the root of your current working partition. Also if you are upgrading an ISO, you need to copy the iso to root as well as noted earlier)

Step 2: Upgrade... either an ISO or a DDMAC partition...

+ If you are upgrading ddmac partition, just choose the version of your ddmac image (jas or nc10 whichever you have)
+ If you are upgrading an ISO, you need to be careful! If there is a ddmac partition in the system made from the same iso, please first upgrade the ddmac partition, and re-run the installer again to upgrade the iso, else it will NOT WORK! I made it this way for future purposes, and to lessen the amount of work to be done smile.gif to simplify the process...

Once the process is done, for ISO, it will upgrade the iso to 10.5.5 and change the ISO name and Mount/Volume names appropriately...
For the ddmac partition, it will upgrade the ddmac partition to 10.5.5 and change its volume name appropriately...

The process is fairly simple, but you need to put ISO and Combo update files to the root of the partition you booted! This part is the only catch!

Here is the Upgrade Package

i will edit the post #1 later... weekend is busy smile.gif

enjoy and give feedback...

if you are not sure about any step or didnt understand some parts, please ask rather than bricking your system smile.gif

Thanx to A R, N T, C P for donations... Money will be spent in TouchScreen kit later and the instructions for HOW-TO do...

Cheers...

Sorry to be the newbie who asks the super basic obvious question, but:
I'm confused as to what exactly this newest update package you've created for us is.

I understand that it updates the 10.5.4 install ISO image and/or partition to be a proper 10.5.5 install, and is in the form of a shell script to be run from an existing OS X install, is that correct?

If so, does this mean that to install a 10.5.5 system from scratch I should still be using your 10.5.4 PPF patch to the JaS ISO and then upgrade that once installed? If I don't have access to a running version of OS X with which to apply this newest package you've just posted, then I should be installing it as before?

I hope I was clear with the questions.

I also want to add my thanks for your hard work on this, Mysticus! The download of the JaS ISO has been slow, but almost done now so I'm excited to start... Your guide is wonderfully done.

sorry for the confusion...

most people already have jas and/or patched jas (nc10 dvd) and most people installed it already..

this project was to give u flexibility for future... smile.gif so in case if u needed to install it again, you will not start from 10.5.4 dvd and update to 10.5.5 again... it will give you an 10.5.5 system once installed... normally distros install 10.5.0 base and than update it to later versions using combo updates, same here... the process is done during installation, so you dont need to update it again after that...

it is to give people an option/flexibility for future installs on the same machine, or maybe who knows, your friends' machine...

so you will always have the latest version...

when 10.5.6 update comes out, i will make one for the 10.5.6 smile.gif

if you dont have the osx installed already, unfortunately i will not provide this upgrade as a PPF... which i explained before but here again it comes to a 1.5 gb ppf file!!! i dont feel like providing such a huge file... so only way to use this upgrade is to install jas or nc10... at the moment...

clear now?

Hi misticus,
I own a Samsung NC10 and I've downloaded the Jas 1.0.5.4 iso ( it takes a looot of time to be downloaded ). I followed your instrunctions and now I've the new Samsung-NC10-10.5.5.iso image.
I want to know if I can use this iso to install osx also on other netbook ( like the asus eeepc or the acer one as well ). DVDupgrade.mpkg modify the "original" Jas iso only for the nc10 (installing his own driver) or in a more "general" way?

Regards

Hey Misticus,

first: Guy, you're a genius! You have my full respect for your long and hard work on the NC10!

I've installed your package on my NC10 and it works almost like on a real mac.

I didn't install it by using an external DVD drive because I don't have one. I've used ddmac. The main issue using ddmac is, that if it's once installed and the first start ends with a blinking cursor, you will need a external drive or linux on a pendrive to set up an active partition. Well, I didn't have an external drive neither linux. But it's very simple to make your NC10 starting again - just press F4 after turning your NC10 on. After pressing F4, Samsung's recovery solution will start. You don't have to make any recovery. Just quit the application and restart your samsung - OS X or Windows will start yet correctly, that's it!

OK, now my NC10 had that issue that it starts into the "Welcome loop". I've solved that by booting up with -s and used some commands at the terminal. Now it works almost perfectly.

But there are some minor issues, I don't care if they are because of the way I've installed leopard or if they are normal. Here they are:

- NC10 is not going into sleep-mode if the lid is closed. It only turns the display off, but the fan and hdd are still working
- The Webcam is as it seems permantly working. I've recognized that, because the area around the webcam is always a bit warmer than the rest of the lid. Booting into windows, there is no difference...
- Webcam also is extremely slow if active
- The menues in leopard are not half-transparent, they are white.
- There is no way to adjust the brightness of the display

Ok, these issues are not really important, I just wanted to tell you. It's really amazing how fast and fluent it works on a non-mac ;-) Next days i will order a dell wifi-card in order to have network and internet.

Is there any chance to disable the webcam and change the powermanagement that the nc10 goes into full sleep mode if lid is closed?

Thanks for tips and help in advance (and sorry for my english again)

not just webcam is always on, bluetooth as well... they are connected to a usb port internally.... and no way to switch them off i guess...

sleep works perfectly only when on battery! when it is on power adapter, it continues feeding current to usb or listening to usb, and since bluetooth and cam is always on, it may be the reason why it is causing wake event, you can confirm this from terminal by doing: sudo dsmesg or using apps/utilities/console show all logs... see it youself, when power connected, sleep works but usb causes wake event! it is acpi-powermanagement issue either bcoz of driver or simply from mobo/bios maybe?

i have not played too much with the powermanagement yet, but i will check with the appleacpibatterymanager to see if it will have any effect, though it disables the battery icon and maybe the powermanagement, for some reason, but didnt fully test it yet as i should...

the menu? you mean top task bar? it should be transparent and if not, there is a setting for it somewhere in the system settings i think...

brightness adjustment is no go at the moment, those are acpi buttons specially assigned i think, in windows you can do it, but well it is designed for windows... smile.gif well it is liveable i guess still...

for the powermanagement, i m not so sure i will be able to make changes to it...

for the loop, what commands have you run, explain a bit? because some german users have got this loop problem as well, i have no idea why but i only had that issue once on my desktop and i had already osx partitions with account in it, but dont really know what causes it, maybe driver? or bug from 10.5.4?...

anyways, can you do the upgrade procedure and reinstall again (use another partition you created for testing to install) to see if this loop going to happen again? i suggest doing wiping current install and make a reinstall, so that you wont have any created account... also in case when u press mac os x option, if it goes back instantly to same screen, press f8 very quickly to bring osx boot selections, it is because of timer issue boot.plist in the ddmaced image i think smile.gif

Update News: I tested the AppleACPIBatteryManager.kext along with vanilla pm bundle, it works, and battery shows up, time etc showed in power meter... i ll let you know with new installer for this... didnt test extensively, for sleep and other parts... but will do later...

not that i dont beleive you, but please post your bios screen cap...

also boot with -v flag to see what exact error you will get after bios check..
RT91
How do i check the md5??

your settings are correct, most likely a damaged dvd...

in windows, google a program called accuhash... once installed, use tools/hash calculater menu...

settings: hash type md5, encoding hexadecimal, browse the iso file, calculate, this will take a bit of time... 30-60 secs probably depending on your computer performance...

your original jas has md5: F7E82424D6EFB474950B361DB7840C91
and samsung ppf dvd: FD8FA6AF80F921E45CB9E21A81557780

if you still have the original jas dvd, check its md5 first, if it doesnt match, most likely it is damaged iso, and u further damaged the iso with ppf... smile.gif

you can still try, -v Platform=OSX86

but i doubt it will work correctly, if it does, you can fix your iso using my upgrade dvd smile.gif still i cant guarantee 100% it...
