you right, but if i try with your dvd i loose everything right??
i've also ubuntu and xp in other partitions and i don't want to reinstall everything!!!!!

you wont loose anything on other partitions other than osx, boot to dvd, use diskutility, erase only osx partition, and install again...

anyone able to install from hdd? I followed every step on the MSI wind forum, but when I reboot and choose "Mac OS X," it's just won't boot into the hdd. The screen just splash and go back to the choosing menu again....anyone who could install from hdd, please help your brother out....

Alright everyone. This is my first post here after lurking in this thread for a while! Got to give it to Mysticus, things seem to have come a long way for the nc10 and os x, in a pretty short time!

I was just wondering though if anyone knew if the internal mic's ever likely to work uder os x? Or the line in for that matter.. Basically I'm looking to get me an nc10 for christmas and plan to use skype/ichat quite a lot.

mine runs perfectly from the hdd install, erm, what install are you using? the nc10windosx86? or another version?

I used Jas OSx86 10.4.5, and apply the nc10 ppf to it. It's still named as Jas OSx86 10.4.5

smile.gif lol it is file name of the iso, you can change it to whatever you want, but when you mount it, it will say samsung nc10 smile.gif
darkgemini
When I use VirtualCloneDrive to mount it, it says Mac OS X Boot, not SamsungNC10.
I got this Jas OSX off torrent and not from your site, I wonder something wrong with it

Last question before I go and buy one today...

Black or white?

biggrin.gif
mugan
A stupid question...

Since we all have the same hardware, would it be foolish to share a ghost image of a completely installed and properly set-up NC10 with all of your software? Installing it would be extra easy and error free, since the image was made ad-hoc. Has norton ghost any problem with hfs+ partitions and the darwin bootloader? I'm askinig this because when i have to install the same system on many computers that have the same hw i use to make a ghost image with all the software needed and "ghost" it on each one, saving lots of time.

Sorry if this seems a noob question, i'm a noob indeed!!!

Anyway great job mysticus, great!!!

biggrin.gif

this is a personal choice not a functional decision really?

but if u want opinion...

white will get dirty pretty quickly...
black is nice
blue is nice too

so down to your liking, if you are clean person, and like white go with white, else go with black or blue...

mugan: it takes about 25 mins to install it from hdd or dvd, so it would not be a problem to just install it plain, because ghost if worked will take similar amount of time due to very poor performing hdd... there is a way to make a ghost image but using mac's own disk utility and you will have the same copy with installer interface and at the end u ll only need to use the installer to apply bootloader and that is it... i will dicuss possibilities like this later... so it is not an option to give you or others a disk image at the moment... but like i said it is possible and no need for ghost... smile.gif

cilio: thanx for the efforts but there are too many newbies/noobs around here, and doing that method will just cause big headaches for me and the people in that topic... i m most definetely sure that 80% of people will brick their systems pretty quickly...

buying a bcm 43xx chip is the best option for long term... because you will have official driver support! and no tweaking etc in ionetworkfamily and no timemachine issues...

I bought the black NC10 this morning, and have downloaded the JAS dvd, applied the patch, and I get the message that the disk was scracthed or dirty, take it out, clean and retry. Tried this with 2 different DVDs, booting off an Xbox360 HD-DVD drive (which is what I used on the Asus)

wait a little patiently i will provide another guide to install within hdd smile.gif nothing external will be needed!.. (if you are not patient enough you can try this method to work out for you, which will be later included in my updated guide...)

however you will have no internet connection if you try to use original lan or wifi...

you can buy a dell dw 1490 wifi or some 1500 series, that way you can have officially supported wifi... lan is not gonna work right now as there is no driver for it yet but there is a work in progress by slice, who get it recognized and at the stage of getting it to work...

if he can make it we ll have both lan and wifi (3rd party) working...

====================
Update News:
--------------
  • 10.5.5 DVD upgrade concept is done and will test it shortly smile.gif (upgrade dvd is another fun project to integrate latest combo updates to current dvds therefore you will get the latest version of osx OTB... i m doing the drivers packages for people who doesnt use our dvd or for latest updates...
  • Newer Update package is ready (with fixed ps2 driver taht doesnt go crazy after sleep)
  • Current guide will be updated for using everything inside the NC10 and not using anything like usb keyb/mouse/dvdrom... aka hdd install method using ddmac
  • First post will be wrapped up/modified... will also add a known issues/workarounds section
  • still working on a solution for the power attached sleep to work... using different usb drivers will not work, as it seems pure that this is something to do with powermanagement drivers, which doesnt respond usb activity when on battery, but responds usb activity when on power adapter... there must be a setting or patching involved to disable usb activity check with power adapter attached settings.. i found the pm profiles complete settings but it has no effect on the system with settings i tried, it must be related to acpi control i suppose as it looks... lets see...
cheers...

Hello Mysticus,

Sorry for my english (french guy) Thanks for you wonderful tutorial for installing OSX86 on Samsung NC10.
But I have a problem. I have patched correctly the JAS iso (I see Samsung NC10 item when I launch Install).
All is ok during the installation, but when the installation is finished, my NC10 reboot... I see the Apple Logo... and reboot... Apple Logo reboot... etc !
I try few times and It reboot all the time.

I have a white NC10 with a 1490 Dell Wifi Card (I use it on my MSI wind and no problem)
Maybe something to change in the BIOS ?

Have you an idea ??? :'(

Thanks for help smile.gif

yes i know the reason smile.gif you didnt read the guide proparly

open the guide go to page 54 see the bios settings, esp EDB (execute disable bit) make sure to check all the settings are correct

(to enter to bios, you need to press F2 key couple of time at restart, because bios post goes very quickly...)

Can someone please upload the kexts for battery/power management for the NC10?
For some reason I am no longer seeing my battery detected.

Ps: The most up to date GMA 950 Drivers are here there are too many old/mixed GMA950 drivers floating around.
http://www.fast-load.net/index.php?pid=57f...37a29e99e95f6d9

To install, extract the archive, fire up KextHelper, drag & drop the 3 kext's onto KextHelper,
enter your password and hit the Easy Install-button. Then say a little prayer and reboot.
KextHelper automatically makes a backup of the replaced kext's in your root-folder in case
something goes wrong, you can easily re-install them in safe-mode (-x parameter at boot).

Works 100% with the NC10 no more artifacts and what seems a slight improvement in rendering.

update package already contains the latest version of gma drivers, without the need for natit...

new update package will be ready in usual places couple hours later...

Just wondering whether this would be any advantage to people not wanting to upgrade their wireless, well eventually anyway

btw I do have the white one, and while the case stays clean due to its glossy nature the keyboard area has got a slight discolouration.

Mr_CP, are you using the Jas distro downloaded from Mysticus's site? because I download it from a torrent website and can't seem to install from hdd

i have managed to get wifi connection based on the method by oldmaclover ... HERE

and i am now using safari to post this message ... cool !

i have to admit that the method is kind of troublesome but hey, that is all about getting mac os x to work on any machine isnt it ?

You say yourself that the kexts have artifacts regularly and I experienced that.
These ones seem not to have that problem.

Do you have a solution for my battery not being detected?
I am using the drivers from your AIO pack.

I just see "No batteries available".

I downloaded my copy from a Torrent website however, I'm 100% certain that the copy from Mysticus's website and the copy I have are identical as the MD5 hash's are the same, did you try using ddmac instead of what you used to install it to the HDD?? I used ddmac and didn't have any problems whatsoever, try that and let us know how it goes and hopefully we'll find a solution

Yes I used the ddmac to install, but it just doesn't work. Here is what I did:
1. use Disk Management is XP Pro to partition my harddrive
- 20GB for XP Pro
- 20GB for Mac
- 5GB for Install (D drive)
- the rest is unallocated
2. use NC_PPF to path the JaS.OSx86.10.5.4.Client.Server.Intel.SSE2.SSE3.iso
3. use ddmac to install to D drive
4. Restart and select Mac OS
But whenever I select Mac OS, the screen just splash and goes back to the Choosing OS Menu again...I don't know where I did wrong...
Could it be the Bios Boot setting? but I did set it as in Mysticus's guide...I don't know what to do now

Hi Mysticus, thanks for your help ! I have installed osx86 smile.gif It was the option in BIOS I forget to enable.

darkgemini: it is normal smile.gif all you need to do is press the F8 button as quick as possible when you press enter in the choice window... split second...

the reason why it goes back to main screen is because there is no counter and active partition is windows so main choice is windows... if you can press F8 fast enough after enter you will have the correct choice window!

tazevil: it should not click... if a hard drive is clicking is a defect! because it happens when the head inside the hdd or the controller board has problem... which means your hdd may die soon... but that depends on what the click sounds like? like knocking noise?

in the windows' choice menu,

you should have 3 choices right?

windows
leopard (comes with chain0)
mac os x (comes with tboot from ddmac)

which one are you using? because chain0 will not let you boot to secondary partition, but tboot does... so correct choice you should make is mac os x... if still it brings you back, means that you have done something wrong... do the ddmac again
darkgemini
I didn't use the chain0 because I want to use ddmac, so my OS choices menu only has 2 options:
Windows
Mac OS X System

I selected Mac OS X System, press Enter, quickly press F8 and was able to see the Samsung-NC10-Jas-Mysticus option. But when I select it and press Enter, it goes back to the OS choice menu again...

Update News: 10.5.5 dvd delayed due to a bumpy damn error that i m keep getting called File/Glob.pm which is part of perl script... and that damn file exists however damn combo files refuses to accept it...

+ iso installs just fine from within an INSTALLED system to another partition
+ iso refuses to install from dvd or ddmaced partition... giving the same damn error all the time... getting me pissed off already... i will try one more thing and if it doesnt work i may abandon the 10.5.5 dvd project... damn osx and perl scripts checking causing tons of trouble not just in osx, in linux, bsd or unix systems as well..

ok, I used any method that I can think of:
- Partition again, run the darn ddmac again again and again
- I even try partition the Install as Primary partition
- Using Paragon Partition Manager to format and partition it again

It still doesn't let me install, the screen just slash and go back to the OS choices menu...I could read something when it slash back to the menu...it says something like: "Error parsing split..."

anyone who success to install, can you tell me your setting:
- what are your partitions setup?
- what software did you use to partition?
- what are your BIOS settings?
Please...please
dontbeefkeith
All I did to install was use a retail leopard dvd dd'd to a usb hard drive and the boot 132 usb image dd'd to a usb drive. Once retail leopard installed I installed Chameleon DFE for hard drives and then ran the NC10 package installer.

I backed up the kexts from the extensions folder to the extras/extensions folder for when the inevitable happens and I run software update.

Problems I have encountered are:

Trackpad vertical axis is twice as fast as horizontal

Single tapping to click the menu bar in Finder goes through every menu from left to right in a continuous loop.

oh and lack of wireless and lan nic but got dell 1505 wifi on order.

Any one know owt about the trackpad, is there a driver i should be using / not using?

Hey Mysticus,

sorry for a question now which may sound a bit stupid for you (and sorry for my english, I'm german).

Can I install a version of 10.4.x also with your files? Fact is that I've never installed any version on my NC10, so it would be the first time for me trying to have mac os on a pc and as I'm working since years on 10.4 on my mac I'd like to do so also on my NC10.

Or let's say it in an other way: Is 10.4 working better or worse than 10.5 on a pc?

Would be happy if you or someone else could give me an advice.

Well, I thought that 10.4.x might be running faster than 10.5, thats why I was asking. But if you say that there is no difference in performance I will install 10.5.

At this time I don't have the Dell wifi-card. Is there a problem installing the OS first and exchanging the atheros with dell later?

before you download anything, i need to tell you that not all md5 programs calculate md5 correctly!

for windows: use a program called accuhash
for mac: use built-in terminal and type: md5 file.name
