can you try it form me? I think it s problem of my osx release (mysticus). I found an update of mobileme, but it does'nt work
thank you for your help
I had trouble activating mobile.me on my desktop hackintosh last month.
Try this:
Sign out, run Repair Permissions and log-in using "your_account@
me.com" (Don't use @
mac.com)
If that doesn't work here's Apple Discussions page:

Any idea why I have no sound?
I have used 10.5.6 links on the "Samsung NC10 files section" and then added CHUD and selected internal speakers.
Thankyou
Joan

I just ordered a Samsung NC10 based on all the feedback. Had the Dell Mini 9 for a week and didn't like it, was a bear to install OS X on the small 8GB SSD, next ordered a Wind then found this thread and cancelled the Wind and now the Samsung will be here in a few days. Good find guys!
Anyway I just ordered the below card that will work with OS X and the NC10 but will it work with Windows if I ever decide to run it? Should I have gone with a Dell?
Apple Airport Extreme Wifi Mini PCI-E Card 802.11n
Thanks!

Hi,
I just got a brand new NC10 3G, and installed Mysticus 10.5.6 on it successfully, thanks a lot !
I got a main issue with sleep (on battery) : whatever the trigger (clamsheel, osx menu, fn keys) it hangs with power and wifi led on and fan still running. Have to force reboot...
Any tips ?

You know you rock ? Probzbly, but i'll say it again !
I fixed the issue partially :
1. Clamshell sleep work
2. "Suspend" from osx menu still broken
I fixed it typing this in terminal :
CODE
sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0
sudo pmset -b hibernatemode 0
sudo rm -f /var/vm/sleepimage

Hi guys. I really like this topic

. I just bought my new nc10 and put MAC OS X Leopard thanks to Mysticus tips

. Thanks a lot man.
I got everything to work , that amazing

.
But yesterday I tried to have the MacBook gesture but anything worked like it should. So now I don't have both of my keyboard and mouse to work

.
Y___Y, I don't want to reinstall it I have a lot of things on it

.
So do you know where can I find a combo of 10.5.6 but the one used to install in NC10 because I didn't find it :s. Or could you upload AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext , ApplePS2Controller.kext please , I think if I put originals files and after repair autorisations it should work again

.
Thank you in advance guys

Well the Samsung is here....and it is gorgeous! Night and day compared to the Dell Mini 9. The keyboard is almost full sized, I think I read it’s about 90% size. The Dell’s keyboard was cramped as anything. Build quality is much better than the Dell. The Samsung is solid as a rock and the workmanship is flawless. I ordered the white with the pearl finish...beautiful. The screen is dang nice and bright and sharp. Has a matte screen which is blessing in brightly lit environments.
Now my dilemma...go for a dual boot and switch to Vista or stay with XP....
Vista has ReadyBoost where you connect a thumb drive - either usb or SD slot - to expand the "system" RAM. So I think I'm going with Vista.

Hi, I'm in the middle of a nightmare!
I have been using my machine fine for weeks, I have 5 partitions( I removed the NC10 restore partition)
I used the mysticus install method using ddmac
XP
OSX
TimeMachine
Common (ntfs)
ddmac
After a couple of weeks, the ddmac partition keeps complaining it has errors ( apparently cos osx has tried to write to it I'm informed), so time to get rid
My machine currently boots like this
1st screen -chose XP or OSX ( windows dual boot I believe)
2nd screen ( on choosing OSX) offers me to boot from all my partitions, I choose the second one to boot OSX
So I read I could remove the ddmac partition, but when I do I get no HFS+ partition, so must have been booting using this. So any help on removing this partition would be good as the error in OSX is annoying
Anyway to cut a long story short, it all went wrong, and even replacing the ddmac partition( which I had done before) would not boot my OSX, for some reason when using disk util, it would say my OSX partition wat a NTFS partition, even tho if i booted my backup of osx from my external drive, all the files on it looked good.
So I decided to bite the bullet, and try a restore from time machine. After messing trying to do it from the ddmac partition, which wouldn't work I have booted from a dvd and restored my time machine backup. All went well, but when I boot, it goes through the 2 boot screens, goes to the apple screen, the twidle thing twidles, then the machine re boots. Any help would be appreciated. I think its because time machine does backup the boot loader from reading around, but not sure what I need to put it back.
TIA

Has anyone figured out a way how to keep the fan off for most of the time? Under Windows there is the Silent Mode, of course, which does a pretty nice job (although the fan does come on every now and then). It would be nice to achieve this under OSX as well, which would give me a near silent machine, as I've put in a SSD. OSX handles SSD sooo much better than Win. No lag or anything.

Hi to everyone!
First of all i want to thank you, and especially Mysticus, for the great job you're doing!
Everything works great on my NC10 with OSX installation.
The only problem i have and it's really bothering me, is that everytime my netbook wakes from sleep, brightness is very low and i have to increase it through hot keys!
I read that there is a solution for this with use of Sleepwatcher. The command i have to add goes like that:
"reggie_se -D PCI -i 16 -r -a 0xF4 -B 32 2>&1 | grep 'Offset' | cut -d 'x' -f 3 | cut -d ' ' -f 1 > /etc/last_brightness"
and it says
"(Change 16 to be your PCI number.)"
But....what is my PCI number?? How can i find it??
Can anyone help me with this??

QUOTE (RealRooster @ Dec 18 2008, 08:08 PM)

You have to create two separate AppleScripts to execute tiomo's functions. In the following examples 'change-brightness.sh' script is stored in Scripts folder but you can save it in any folder you want, just adjust the folder paths accordingly.
First script is to increase the brightness:do shell script "/Library/Scripts/change-brightness.sh set + 25" password "..." with administrator privilegesSecond script is to decrease the brightness:do shell script "/Library/Scripts/change-brightness.sh set - 25" password "..." with administrator privilegesNOTE:
"..." must be changed to your user password
After you have created the mentioned AppleScripts, store them e.g. in the same folder what you used earlier for the 'change-brightness.sh'.
In QuickSilver application you can then assign keyboard shortcuts for your AppleScripts by using Custom Triggers -functionality.
Hopefully this helps.

Thsnk you very much. Works like a dream!

And also thanks to the original change-brightness script poster.

Just to let you guys know although it is not strictly on topic......
Used CleanMyMac on my machine today and it gets rid of all the ppc part of universal programs
as well as all unwanted language files and seems to have sped up the nc10 quite a bit including
speeding up office 2008.
Boot times of OSX however remain unaffected.

I've made a custom "About this Mac" logo for the Samsung.
The "How to install" is below...installation credit goes to mtotho in his first post:
http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=836891.) Go to /System/Library/CoreServices (manually, not in terminal)
2.) Find the file "loginwindow", Right click--Show package contents.
3.) Then browse to /Contents/Resources. You should now be in a folder with images.
4.) Find the one Labeled "MacOSX.tif" and back it up somewhere.. then delete if from its' normal spot.
5.) Download the attached file from this post, (MacOSX.tif)
6.) Drag it to the /Contents/Resources Folder and authenticate.
7.) Now simply log out then log back in, and your new image will be there.
Edit: I've edited the attached logo as I forgot to turn off a layer for transparency. Should look better without gray box around logo.

Very nice thank you very much for that logo, working well here.
Great work being done by everyone here even on the little touches.
The NC10 is becoming a near perfect OSX machine for me.
Only the sleep and sound driver stuff to go....lol
I am using a bluetooth headset for skype and for the time being
sleep is not really an issue that bugs me too much.
All in all very happy with my NC10.

hi everyone.
above all, i'd like to thank Mysticus and everyone else for sharing their knowledge an being so helpfull (and polite, even when answering the same questions for the bazillionth time).
may this be usefull to someone as semi-skilled as me and/or amusing to those more knowing

:
got the NC10-osx86 working on my NC10 (Model NC10-KA06DE).
trackpad works with the trackpadfull package, no scrolling but for now i can live with scrolling by arrow-buttons (had to do so under linux for years, so i'll just wait 'till one of the wizards gets that working)
wifi doesn't work however (tried several tutorials, leading to several complete new reinstallations of the os, and finally ordered a dell wifi-card. if anyone's interested i'll tell how it worked when it arrives)
speakers are fine, missing the headphone-jack though (voip-ing with headphones would be nice), ext. mic's ok.
keyboard layout is funny (got a german keyboard: e.g. option+L for @ should be option+Q, option+8 gives me { instead of [ etc.) - not really a problem but if someone knows a step by step tutorial for remapping the keyboard i'd be gratefull for a link.
yesterday i modded the dock (wanted it black), after that the NC10 rebooted fine several times, but today i didn't even get to the bootloader - only saw "... com.apple.Boot.plist not found".
TimeMachine wouldn't start from DVD and my carboncopycloner-backup didn't boot either (should've tried booting that one before i really needed it, damn

).
booting ubuntu or partedmagic from usb didn't work for copying the .plist --> hfs+ volumes are read only
booted from usb, ran diskutility, repaired permissions and disks: no effect
-took a break, got some fresh air, and some calories-
booted from usb (NC10 install-dvd), F8 for options, rd=disk0s1
screen resolution was screwed, but that didn't bother. time-machine started but didn't run properly (saw one finder-window, but only one, no space-pic, no arrows etc).
copied the .plist from my ccc-backup to /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/
reboot: same error
booted from usb again, restored the files i changed when modding the dock
reboot: no luck
booted from usb, ran osx86tools, repairing permissions
didn't fix it either.
what finally solved the problem was using the NC10-install-dvd for booting into the installation (F8, rd=disk0s1) and using osx86tools for running fdisk and reinstallig the darwin-bootloader
and after reading several extreeemly helpfull posts elsewehere along the lines of "ah well, if you get that error you're screwed, go buy a real mac"... well my that was my 2 ct. :-]
cheers

I thought I provide some feedback with the touch screen from TouchKit.
In one word: It's a complete piece of rubbish.
Most problems I had might have stemmed from a faulty controller board: the mouse was always stuck at one side and moved quickly back there once touching the screen somewhere.
I magaged to get it to work for a few days, but today it was back to the old fault, so ripped it out, breaking it in the process, but I didn't care. A costly lesson learnt.
There are two downsides to even when it was working though, which makes me less sad about it:
The touch accuracy was terrible; using the scroll bars was virtually impossible, and precise clicking wasnt really possible either. This might have to do with some space between the touch screen and the TFT, I'm not sure. Also, the touch screen makes the screen glossy, which is much worse than the original nice screen finish. It also attracts a lot more dust.
So, with these things, even if it had continued to work, I wouldn't have been too happy. You can actually see on the youtube videos that people have difficulties with the screen. It's certainly not as nice as a built in one. So my advice: Hands off.

sorry to hear your bad luck with this... the one i have is quite nice and responsive! seriously very usable and scroll etc everything working fine... accuracy and sensitivity can be something adjusted/calibrated i think, i didnt have any issue with lag of pointer, or scrolling etc...
but it is possible that you may have one of the fake/cheap cloned controllers which on the touch controller's web site i saw warning for! they mentioned exactly same detailed problems as you are talking about!

Just to let some of you know, you do not need more then 1 partition for mac.
I have
1: Recovery (6gb)
2: Windows 7 (60Gb)
3: Data Storage NTFS (50gb)
4: Mac OS X HSF+ (32gb)
I assume:
TimeMachine parttiton is for back ups
ddmac is to use to install mac os if u dont have usb DVDrom.
I use windows boot loader to auto boot win7 in 3 seconds or i can click mac os and get darwin boot loader which allows u to boot mac (you cannot remove darwin as i found out)

That's interesting! Could you point me to that website where it says that?
I've actually been in contact with the manufacturers and they're about to send me a new PANEL (not controller though). Trouble is, I have already found out the definitely the controller is at fault: when I disconnected the panel and only the controller was plugged in, the mouse pointer was still behaving irratically.

Well, I don't know what happened, but I very nearly thought I had lost my beloved, new NC10 Hackintosh.
I've been following this thread as closely as I can for progress on the development of driver advances for the NC10 that I only managed to convert just under a week ago.
However, a few queries that I have still seem unanswered, highlighted by the problems I just had installing these new Voodoo drivers.
After installing the new PS2 driver and the HDA beta driver after restarting my keyboard and trackpad were completely dead. Fortunately I was able to plug in a USB keyboard and mouse and get back in. However, after deleting the VoodooControllerPS2.kext file from my Library/Extensions folder and restarting, I was able to use my keyboard and trackpad again.
I checked the System Preferences and removed the VoodooPS2 preference pane. I then tried reinstalling the VoodooPS2 driver again thinking that installing both drivers at the same time may have borked something. I restarted.
Uhoh! Here was the first error message that my Hackintosh has ever shown. A kernel panic looking screen that asked me to restart and power down. I did. I plugged the USB mouse and keyboard back in and tried to get back into OSX. Well, I tried. The problem is, it appeared that plugging the USB keyboard in was holding down a key. Entering into OSX was impossible given that I had username and password to enter and the 7 key was being repeatedly pressed by an invisible force.
I shutdown and removed the USB keyboard, thinking it was the flakiness of the old Windows keyboard killing things. It wasn't. Once I got to the login screen again, it seemed that the NC10's keyboard had a mind of it's own now and it seemed that I was never going to get inside my NCOSX lappy again.
I persevered, restarted with the USB keyboard again this time and made special attention NOT to touch the USB mouse or trackpad. I was then able to enter my login and password accurately (no ghost fingers this time) and get back into the extensions folder and delete that VoodooPS2 driver again.
Thankfully, everything is back to normal again now, but it wasn't a pleasant experience and I'm wondering what may have caused it.
My installation was made with my own retail copy of Leopard and I used the installer that is provided in the Rapidshare folder from the OP.
To think that I only came here trying to solve my sleep issues.

Right. I only understood a fraction of what you said, but I get the general idea. I have no clue if I have an EFI partition as I merely used the Boot from USB stick and install from a USB drive image (couldn't get the USB External DVD to work like others experienced).
It's nice to install off my own Leopard DVD (I have an iMac and Macbook), but if I have to find a copy of OSX86 for a more reliable install, I'm game. I really want sleep, multitouch and headphone support, in that order.

I believe Mysticus is correct...it only affects retail installers using EFI. I'm using Stuart's EFI retail install.
I also had to connect a USB keyboard and mouse to delete the VoodooPS2 driver.
Mysticus is there a way to view the EFI partition to see what's installed?

Okay, let's take this last-question-first

QUOTE (Johnny V @ Apr 17 2009, 02:41 PM)

Mysticus is there a way to view the EFI partition to see what's installed?
If I might handle this one?

The
very first comment on the Installation article on my blog contains the following script to mount your EFI partition (on /Volumes/EFI):
CODE
#!/bin/bash
sudo mkdir -p /Volumes/EFI
sudo mount_hfs /dev/disk0s1 /Volumes/EFI
echo "Rebuild caches by running \"update.sh\" in /Volumes/EFI, and"
echo "\"rm Extensions.mkext Extensions/Caches/com.apple.kext.info\""
echo "in /System/Library/"
echo
echo "Please remember to \"umount /Volumes/EFI\" once finished..."
... I suggest saving this as "mountefi.sh".
It's also probably best (although by no means mandatory) to interact with the EFI partition via a Terminal.app shell - it's safer this way.
You will need root access to modify the Extensions directory, so you're probably best to start with 'sudo su -' then 'cd /Volumes/EFI/'. Note that 'sudo' only works if you have a password set on your account.
QUOTE (Johnny V @ Apr 17 2009, 02:41 PM)

Yep this happened to me also, I installed the new PS2 driver and the HDA beta driver and upon restart the trackpad and keyboard was dead.
In order to load correctly, you need not only the kernel extension itself, but also any direct dependencies. There is a great tool called "kextviz" (google for it - the header attributes it to "PureDarwin"...) which will show (and optionally even graph!) dependency tree for extensions. In addition, there should be a simple script I've written called 'kinv.sh' in your EFI Extensions directory. Running this on my system results in:
CODE
Changed: AppleIntelGMA950.kext
Changed: AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext
Changed: IO80211Family.kext
Changed: IOBluetoothFamily.kext
Default: IOAudioFamily.kext
Default: IOGraphicsFamily.kext
Default: IONDRVSupport.kext
Default: IONetworkingFamily.kext
Default: IOPCIFamily.kext
Default: OSvKernDSPLib.kext
New: AppleACPIBatteryManager.kext
New: AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext
New: AppleAzaliaAudio.kext
New: AppleDecrypt.kext
New: ApplePS2Controller.kext
New: AppleYukon2.kext
The items marked as "New" are extensions which don't have a (direct) stock OS X equivalent and the ones marked "Changed" are modified OS X extensions. What we're interested in here are the "Default" extensions - unmodified copies of OS X extensions moved to the EFI partition in order to fulfil a boot-time dependency.
As well as this, the documentation for VoodooPS2 states that is cannot co-exist with existing PS2 drivers, so you'll need to remove 'ApplePS2Controller.kext' and almost certainly 'AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext' too.
It's worth putting the VoodooPS2 extension in place and then running 'kextviz.sh' on it, and checking for any unmet dependency extensions. If there are any, copy these to your EFI partition too, run 'update.sh' from the root of your EFI partition, and try again.
(This last step is very important, BTW - you have to run 'update.sh' every time you alter the EFI partition).
It's also worth booting with the flags '-v -f' to rebuild all caches and to log all start-up messages verbosely.
Please give this a try, and let us know how you get on.

I really want sleep, multitouch and headphone support, in that order.
Assuming that you have an EFI-based install (which it does sound like you have) then the situation for these is:
Sleep
The current EFI install uses Munky's modified boot-132 loader, which doesn't support Deep Sleep. Attempting to sleep will cause the machine to corrupt its CMOS settings, removing the EDB setting which Mac OS required. The solution to this is to run 'pmset -a hibernatemode 0' as root. This will give you the ability to sleep (suspend-to-ram) without errors, but will disable deep sleep (a.k.a. hibernation).
The new Chameleon bootloader promises full deep-sleep support, although this is currently not working for certain hardware (certainly for 2Gb NC10s). Whilst deep sleep no longer crashes the machine or corrupts the BIOS, on my machine it extends the boot time to about 5 minutes, yet doesn't resume the previous setting. Several other people with different machines but additional memory have also reported this. Hopefully it will be fixed before Chameleon 2 goes final.
Multitouch
The new VoodooPS2 driver offers this, although I've not tried it yet myself. If you give it a go, have USB input devices on hand in case something goes wrong, and remember to remove any existing PS2 drivers first and to rebuild your extensions cache by running 'update.sh' after.
Headphone
Headphones are supported by the drivers installed with the EFI installer, but additionally require the NC10-specific version of Audieee to actually trigger the switch. This is available from
here.
For non-manual switching there is the new VoodooHDA driver - although this is still at the beta-testing stage, and currently has some ongoing issues (low maximum volume, distortion after resume from sleep, kernel panics, not all microohones supported). I'd hold fire on this one until a more robust version is released.

I fully agre with "srcshelton".
New Vodoo sound driver is stil not good enough for me, I have revert back back to the previous driver I had. I am waiting for an updated version.
I also have tested the new ps2 driver, it work but I am not confortable with it. Maybe setting problem but I didn't find the right one after few hours of try.
Double click become difficult (for exemple to open a file or folder) and all is not so precise as with the other driver.
I hope someone will give us the good setting files for the nc10, if it exist, or that the driver will be updated.
In any case, all of this is a great job!! Thanks very much for all effort

Would anyone of the kind gentlemen be nice enough to explain to me in a few but clear words how to get rid of the beta sound driver and revert to the original one?
Thanks ever so much!

I had a backup of my extension folder. I ve done this with osx86tools.
I always do this before installing new driver that can give problem.
In case of Problem, I delete the extension Folder and restore the backuped one with osx86tools.

Hi everybody I'm starting my quest to install Leopard on my NC -10 italian version (NP-NC10-KA09IT).
I know that replacing the Atheros Wifi card with a Dell (Broadcomm) one is strongly suggested but I'm quite reluctant of buying a DW1490 from eBay because none of the sellers from inside EU (don't wanna buy from outside because of taxes) ship with express courier and I don't trust Italian postal service.
So I've contacted my "Account Manager"

at Dell Italy and she told me they don't have the 1x90 anymore but now they've been replaced by the new DW1510 (802.11n!!!

) or DW1397.
Does anybody have experience with these cards and the NC-10 with OSx86?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

*Bump*
Presumably it's not such a difficult thing to do, if you know how?

A great thank you to Mysticus C for your work !
I have just sucessfully installed Mac OS X on my NC10 using the 10.5.6 iso by Mysticu C
After applying the drivers packages (Voodoo, Ethernet etc...) everything works like a charm.
I changed the Atheros WiFi Card for a Dell 1505 and enjoy wireless connection.
Next step : the touchscreen mod ! It looks so amazing on your video. I believe it would be a great complement to the tiny touchpad of the NC10.
I have only one question : how can you change the bootscreen back (original Aplle logo on grey background) cause I applyied one of the custom boot screen package. Or even better, how can I make my own ? The only topic I found is with a dead link to the guide supposed to reveal it all :/
Edit : to return back to original bootscreen, simply delete "boot" file on the system hard drive
Thanks again Mysticus C

I have a problem with DDMAC (at least i think that's where the problem is). After going through the installtion steps, and selecting OSX in the XP bootloader, it goes to the Darwin bootloader, counts down to 0 and returns to the XP bootloader rather than installing OSX. I have the BIOS set up correctly, with EBD enabled.
Could it be because I have my harddisk partitioned differently than as explained in the guide? I have it set up like this:
[recovery] [XP - primary] [data - logical] [DDMAC - logical] [OSX - primary]
do you really need a 2nd OSX partition?
Or could it be because I already had OSX installed (had to delete it to make room on the harddisk for holiday pictures)? The 2nd time I used DDMAC without deselecting boot.ini and PC-EFI. I have already removed the DDMAC partition, deleted the tboot file in the root and restored the original boot.ini, but after reinstalling DDMAC i still have the same problem.

Has anyone attempted this on an NC20? I like the idea of the larger screen. Presumably with the hardware being very similar it should work as with the NC10?
