Did you try to remove the DVD from the external DVD reader after OSX installation?
After installation, if I remember correctly, the computer restarts and should then boot from the HD and complete the setup process...
I did also the installation using an external DVD reader (successfully) .... I had some minor troubles... unfortunately I don't remember exactly how I solved them.
Hey toc
Can you just give me your drive details please?
I mean how you managed your hard disk partitions.....

I have just 2 partitions: OSX (~75% of HD capacity) and XP (~25%); no XP restore partitions (removed before installing OSX; there were two I think... ).
To shrink the XP partition to 25% of HD and remove the useless (for me) XP partitions, I used Parted Magic (linux) but I guess I did something wrong making the NC10 unusable, so I reinstalled XP from scratch (with Samsung discs) after complete formatting and partitioning (then with my desired setup).
Then I installed OSX using Mysticus guide, using an external DVD reader.

Hi, nice tuto and 10.5.6 DVD .. works pretty well..
just picked up some tweaks in this thread and worked fine ..
The touchpad/trackpad is just a lame ... it doesn't works the same way on the vertical axis as it does on the horizontal axis (twice as fast)..
isn't there a tip to ehance the behaviour of the touchpad ? it works pretty well under windows, but it's almost unusable under Mac OS X
I've tried several things and this is worse than the original trackpad included on the DVD ...
I don't care about the scroll.. I know I won't get such a feature ... but at least restore the smothness of the trackpad/touchpad would be great ..
any ideas about this ?
thanks

Did anyone else find it impossible to unscrew the screw holding the Atheros wireless card in place? No matter how much strength I used, it wouldn't budge, and I nearly stripped the screw in the process.
Needless to say, I'm pretty pissed now. What good is installing OS X if I can't get a supported wireless card into the damn thing?

I had problems too, and in the end came to the conclusion that the screwdriver wasn't quite the right size. Tried a different one that that looked nearly identical and it came straight out.

It does work for me too, meaning it is usable. But even when I set the tracking speed to the minimum the vertical speed is still faster than the horizontal speed.
Also I wish there was a working trackpad driver with 2-finger scrolling and fixed-speed for the NC10 trackpad. I wonder what the model of the new big trackpad on the NC10 limited edition is (that should be available on amazon soon), and if there is a driver for that one.

vertical speed is EVER twice as fast (x2 at least) as the horizontal speed
even at the lowest speed available (which obviously is way too slow horizontaly)...

Complaints complaints complaints.
Look two problems
track pad is PS2... Not USB.. there are innate problems to that I don't want to go into.
Major factor. Not sure if you guys noticed but the trackpad is wide.... All apple track pads are square or close to. There is just an innate problem with that as well. Don't expect this to ever work right. Cause it wont. Scrolling support may be an option in the future, but for now. No can do. at least not perfect anyway
Buy a small wireless mouse or laptop mouse and just deal.
Now... on to more pressing questions.
I havent had much experience with SD cards. Mysticus had me set up a second partition to have as a backup incase stuff went sour. Would rather back up the drive to say a 16gb SDHC card. yes i know it is slow 15 mb/s max. I wouldnt be running from it. I noticed that when you put an SD card in that it sticks out (reason probably being that makes it easier to pull it out). Anybody know how much of the card is memory and how much is extra plastic say in an ordinary sdhc card. Would love to sand down a 16gb one so that it is flush with front of computer.

hey guys, i just got back...

and didnt read a lot since i left... will try to answer some questions later if not answered...
for the ps2 touchpad, not much can be done, apple touchpads like adam mentioned, are almost 1:1, whereas nc10 has ~1:2 ratio, which is the trouble some of you mentioning...
there is not a propar OTB solution for this, and it is not really that much of a trouble to begin with either... so most people complain about things that we cant do much about... cosmetic issues will be there no matter what...
for the sleep issue, i will provide stuart the info i got, and see how testing will go...
cheers...

Anyone looking for the perfect NC10 mouse, get a Logitech VX Nano. The receiver is tiny - you can leave it in all the time. It's the slickest mouse I've ever used (install Steermouse for it). The trackpad is bad even in Windows on this thing.
Since getting my NC10 set up, I don't touch my macbook pro anymore. Apart from heavy encoding and video work, this plus the VX Nano is pure portable bliss!

It's not about complaining, it is about sharing the problems to figure out if others ran into it and have solutions and work arounds. This thread is an amazing source and I really appreciate the help from everybody (and of course Mysticus C being number 1).
A PS2 driver could handle different size ratios, but apparently since Apple doesn't have a need for it, they haven't coded the option.
An external mouse is great when you're on a desk, not so convenient when you're in the train holding the NC10 on your laps.
Does anybody know the brand and model of the trackpad of the NC10 Special Edition?

I REALLY need help and let me first say I am SO sorry for hijacking this thread, but no matter what I do I cannot make a NewTopic in the hardware forum! Something is wrong with the site...I have tried in Firefox and Iexplore and STILL get that error "You must enter a post" as if I never type anything.
Ok, here' s my topic - I am building a Quad Xeon Hackintosh. I pasted the info from Apple's site for their current MacPro, and then the list of hardware I am buying. How does this look?...
===
From Apple's Site...Mac Pro (8 cores standard, up to 3.2 GHz)
-Two 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon "Harpertown" processors
-2GB memory (800MHz DDR2 fully-buffered DIMM ECC)
-ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics with 256MB memory
-320GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s 7200-rpm hard drive1
-16x double-layer SuperDrive
===
So, here's my custom parts list...
-MOTHERBOARD: Asus Z7S = $480 @ newegg
-CPU: Intel Quad Xeon E5420 - BX80574E5420A = $330 @ newegg (QTY = 2)
-MEMORY: OCZ Platinum Rev2 PC-6400 DDR2 800 (1GB) - OCZ2P800R21G = $23 @ amazon (QTY = 4)
Do I need EEC instead?
-VIDEO: ATI Radeon HD 3870X2 (1GB) = $275 @ tigerdirect
I heard that MacOSX OSx86 will only recognize 256mb...?
-AUDIO: (on board)
-OPTICAL: 20x Pioneer DVR-116D = $70 @ amazon
-WIRELESS: MA688ZM ???
What will work in both MacOSX OSx86 (show up as "Airport") and work in Windows?
===
I will primarily be using this computer for HD video editing on Premiere Pro when booted into Windows and HD video editing in Final Cut Pro when booted into MacOSX, so a lot of rendering. I will NOT be playing games on it at all, but I will be using it also for a webserver and mail server for my personal domains. NOt a ton of traffic, but enough to be left on 24/7 and also why I am going with Xeon CPUs on a 771 socket mobo rather than Core2Quad on a 775 socket.
So, will this setup work well for runniong OSx86 and Windows? Also, if you can answer my questions above, I'd appreciate that too. THANKS!!

About sound... as a temporary solution in order to enable sound out on headphone, I installed AzaliaAudio.pkg and Audieee application for NC10. Unfortunately I noticed strange things after that... for example, sometimes the NC10 didn't shutdown properly and in System Profiler the Machine Model string wasn't "NC10" anymore, but it changed more or less randomly to "NC10" + some garbage string. I don't know if this is just a cosmetic issue or a sign that something is going wrong...
At the end I unistalled AzaliaAudio and everything is fine again: no shutdown problems anymore.
Did anybody notice troubles with AzaliaAudio package?
Mine is a "standard" Mysticus installation (JaS based OSX 10.5.6 for NC10), as described in the guide.

No problems here (with the installation or reboot)!
The other update was to Java - and note that Apple's Java 1.6 binaries are all 64bit, though, and so can't be run on an Atom (N270) processor.
Annoyingly, if you erase them completely then Software Manager just wants to reinstall them again.

No problems here (with the installation or reboot)!
After installing AzaliaAudio package I noticed:
- corrupt model name in system profile
- shutdown *sometimes* didn't work (I don't remember if it was in battery mode or power supply)
- sleep working properly
With shutdown not working, I mean that I gave the command to shutdown (Apple menu / Shut Down...), then NC10 started the shutdown procedure and at a certain point it just froze, then the only way out was a hard shutdown (keeping power button pressed). The successive reboot was fine, so it seems that the shutdown procedure almost came to the end, but without shutting the power.
After unistalling AzaliaAudio package:
- everything fine.
For me headphones aren't vital, so I'll wait for the final audio drivers... patiently

The previous Java update (Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 2) updates:
- Java SE 6 to version 1.6.0_07
- J2SE 5.0 to version 1.5.0_16
- J2SE 1.4.2 to 1.4.2_18
The latest update (Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 3) generically addresses security and compatibility issues, and requires "Update 2".
Are you really sure that "Java Update 3" updates only Java SE 6 (which - I agree - can't run on Atom CPU) and not also J2SE 5 or J2SE 1.4.2?

The build in wifi card is not compatible to OSX. Although there is an workaround somwhere in the forum.

If you donīt need Internet, you shound not have any problems.
If you need networking you could buy an OSX compatible USB-WLAN stick or even a USB lan-stick.

I'm getting a "Still waiting for root device" on my nc10, before getting into the installation menu.
I'm doing the ddmac method, the nc10 is stock besides the 2gb ram (bought last month). Bios settings triple checked, they are the same as the ones in the guide. DDmac probably works fine because drive D: disappears upon reboot (and the installation procedure starts properly until the "still waiting" part). I have 3 primary partitions (recovery, xp, empty for osx) and 3 logical (time machine, reserved space, ddmac).
I get the choice of selecting the osx installation during boot, I the choose nc10, osx stuff start loading and I get the "Still waiting for root device" after the trackpad detection routine (if i remember well).
On the first try, ddmac's partition wasn't the last one on the disk, so I tried a second time, letting ddmac have the last partition. Same result.
It's strange, since this iso should work with the nc10 hardware (i'm using the 10.5.6 nc10 iso). Any suggestions? Apologies if this has been covered, I haven't found anything helpful.

it is strange, because you are the first one hit that bump...
this is most likely (-a-) you altered some stuff unknowingly, or (-b-) you have a different version of NC10 (if it is NC10 of course)
because if it is nc10, your hdd controller should have been recognized... (well unless you are using some sort of pci-x type of SSD drive found on bottom line series...)
because the sata controller in atom based devices uses same intel controller (until nvidia ION platform comes out) so they should all be recognized and have no problem...
like i said, first option (-a-) is the most likely,
u didnt create a partition for the OSX most likely, or u created wrong partition types!

Oops
The WiFi was working quite good with the atheros card.
But I update the system (including a airport update) and now, the WiFi card is not supported O.o Kismac doesn't find any networks but before it was!
I try 5 different versions of kext drivers but nothing... =(

Thanks for your reply mysticus. The netbook is an nc10, got it from ebuyer, I'm sure about that. The purchased date stated in the BIOS is 01/2009.
The only thing that might have affected the procedure was that I installed win7 on D:. I yesterday deleted the d: partition and restored the boot procedure so that the xp boot.ini was followed. I haven't changed any hardware besides the ram, the hdd is the 160gb one.
Here are some screenshots that show my configuration:

Apologies for the blurriness of the last one.

I don't see any OSX boot partitions, I assume the extended journaled MAC format isn't available, see the howto pdf from Mysticus C
Start from scratch, delete Windows 7 it's all in the pdf
