Sounds outstanding.....Well done mate , sounds like the distro for me.
Will it be a full distro or just a ppf to a JaS dvd?

I hope to get a 500gb hdd and a dell 1490 and partition it as a 100gb mac drive ,
100gb windows drive and the rest as a big fat32 disc for all my media, because with this
type of battery performance I am definatley not going to need my divx portable dvd
player anymore.

This sounds like the very package all us nc10 owners are waiting for.

Does anyone have a link to replacing the wfi and hdd with photos??

Many thanks

I've already got an NC10 and after seeing what can be done with it by Mysticus C* I know of atleast another 4 people getting one and wanting me to install osx86! these machines really are one of the best ones to use for osx86 all you need is another wifi card which is cheap (around £15 or so) which works straight out the box, installed mine this morning only takes 5mins and done.

quick question mate, with the custom install that your making, we're still gonna need to run the update to get to 10.5.5 so would we use the original update method that you created before the nc10 or the one thats part of the nc10 install package.

hmm good question...

i didnt think about it really... i think it could be done smile.gif

but i will not do it right now...

first i will need to integrate 10.5.5 update,

second: it will be huge PPF, will take too much time to upload...

good news is i will do it as well, and maybe release it someone whoever wanna seed it?

i posted it earlier in the thread if you missed it but here it is again
http://www.laptopmag.com/advice/how-to/nc10-hard-drive.aspx
you can access the wifi card at the same time, all in all just for the wifi it took me 5mins so not so hard to do.

You've done more than enough mate, I understand the file will be way to large, which would require way to much bandwidth, things are perfectly fine the way they are, was just curious as to the possibilities, the guide that you've made is 99.99% n00b proof, I say 99.99% purely because some people will not heed warnings and use other distros instead of the one recommended by you.
Smoothie_92
Isn't better to use the boot-132 method and then apply the uppdate pack, since it will be uppdate proof.

(I understood that you would have to do the combo update on JaS release, but not with boot-132?)

that puts extra weight on my shoulders... and you need to customize the initrd img for the 132 and the settings so that it will be update proof, but due the nature of the partition amounts in the system, it will create another mess for me... to make an mkext and need to update it as well later when the system updated... so many things will follow so, i dont wanna go into 132 world and redo everything... things are fine at the moment...

also there is no such thing as update proof... people have very good talents to destroy thing, which will cause flury of debug messages for me to handle...

this is right now more than enough....

if you want custom bootloader, u r free to do so...

PPF done.... going to apply it to jas iso and test it after that... PPF Size: 2mb smile.gif

Wow, progress is moving at breakneck speed. Big thanks to Mysticus for all of this, plus the people testing his work.

Hopefully I can get an NC10 soon and learn how all of this stuff is done so I can help create an extremely streamlined ISO for the NC10 with as many things working out of the box as possible.

The quicker and easier it is to install OS X on the NC10, the better. Then the NC10 can be a real Macbook Nano.

Anyone tried this (http://s10lenovo.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=450)

Seems to be a GMA950 driver with working bightness on the Lenovo S10. Since the netbooks is pretty similar it might be a chance for it to work on the Sammy as well...

Beware, some of the people got a bluescreen after installing...

I registered this forum just to say "Thank You" to you Mysticus C. You have done a wonderful work for us NC10 owners. I have a question regarding your up coming samsungosx86.iso, can I use this guide to install OSX instead of using an external DVD drive because I don't want to buy a new external drive just to install OSX

if it works for you why not?

lochey:

double click speed can be set from system settings... smile.gif just like you would do from windows... and enable/disable tapping... from the same keyboard mouse place...

bluetooth is a bit funny... it is connected to an internal usb port, so i dont know an option to disable it, but i know an option to remove the icon... system settings again... smile.gif

after wake up from sleep, i mentioned this, "RIGHT ARROW" key comes up pressed by software... and you will hear a ticking/beeping sound... (like in windows if you hold a key for 3-4 sec, it will beep same thing here...) to fix it just press right arrow key once... if you dont press arrow key, and click on any menu, it will look like things are going crazy... but it is not, it is just arrow key pressed, so menu moving right side very quickly as you are holding down the arrow key

headphone switching works with only script + CHUD package installed, programs unfortunately not working at the moment... those will be solved over time.. i will provide the script solution for those interested... smile.gif

usb ports dont work on msi bcoz they dont use correct kernel/system.kext ... it is called mount issue smile.gif i always use correct version so it never happens on my releases...

OK HERE IS GOOD NEWS,.....

FINALLY I MADE IT... NC10OSX86 WORKING!!!!! IT IS ALIVE... smile.gif

I TESTED IT ON MY COMPUTER, BUT AS SOON AS I GET THE NC10 FROM MY WIFE, I WILL TEST on the NC10 AS WELL...

ANYONE WANNA GIVE IT A TRY? PM me, for the testing...
lochey
Hi everyone,

I've succesfully installed OSX using the manual of Mysticus C! Thanks man....really happy with the work you are doing! I also installed the msiwind before this install and am comparing the compatibility.

Here is some feedback:

* All USB ports and the SD card slot work perfectly, this was not the case with the MSIWind.iso Even after sleeping and waking these work!!

* Double click doesn't always work. I notice after the computer sleeps and wakes up the double clicking doesn't work. Occasionaly it does come back after a while or going into the finder etc...does kind of bring it back is my experience.

When openig some menu's the OSX outline seems not to be correct. This happens occoasionaly, perhaps after sleeping or just after a while. See the pictures for an example.

* The computer does not sleep when you close the cover (see picture). It needs to be put to sleep manually. (this did work with the msiwind.iso... sleeping and waking without any problems) the computer also doens't sleep when it is charging? It will sleep for 2 sec and wake right back up...

* When the computer has been put to sleep and wakes back up....and you later on click in the top navigation bar (finder, bluetooth spotlight, help etc.) it will keep jumping to ALL the other menu's instantly and back and forth, rendering you unable to choice a menu.

* The sound works good...only the headphone doens't work....even after I installed the extra packages...

* Is there the option to turn bluetooth off?..when you click the bluetooth icon on the top bar? My iMac has this option...but can't turn the bluetooth off on my NC-10 (see pictures of the bluetooth option on my iMac and the Sammy.

This is my feedback so far! But there is alot of progress and with more testing and feedack we can make the NC-10 hopefully 100% OSX compatible

Here are some pics:
 Mysticus C*
Lochey: i answered your questions in previous post... check it...

Anyone with a JAS DVD who wants to test this ppf, PM me...

In case some of you do not know what PPF is... it is a patch file. What it does is, takes your original iso file, and makes it into another patched file...

In this case, it will take your original JAS ISO, and will make it a Samsung NC10 DVD, that will let you install everything at once and not needing a usb keyb/mouse...

hopefully the drivers i used are not the wrong ones tongue.gif

OK half way through the INSTALL process...

Yes..thanks for answering my questions and giving comments on my feedback Mysticus...it was my first time posting a message on this forum..and it kind of went wrong the first time blink.gif

But...considering all the work you are doing and knowing that the msiwind.iso works pretty good on the Sammy..besides the USB mounting due to incorrect kernel/system etc. Wouldn't it be easier to just add or alter the MSIwind.iso to make this even more compatible and just rename this to your liking?

I remember using the the MSIwind.iso and the only thing not really working well for it was the USB mounting. Everything else worked pretty good...or am I making a stupid suggestion...I'm a Nooby btw..in all of this! smile.gif

suggestion is good but i checked the drivers and installed stuff, and i prefered Jas, but at the end, it is no different smile.gif only minor issues would be left but they will be very small and can be fixed easily... over time...

lol, mate i'm sure you can manage to chuck the 10.5.6 combo update some how, you'll work your magic on it for sure, i'm on 74% install right now so not long, i started fully fresh so deleted everything apart from my xp and recovery partition, and created a small partition of 14gb and another of around 50 something gb, and i've not used an external dvd drive, i used that guide mentioned earlier to boot from the hdd, so far so good, up to 80% now going quicker than before lol

yeah, i think i figured some issue here...

something didnt look fine to me now... preflight script should have run before the install, and files should be installed, however it looks it kept on running and renaming some files... smile.gif will need another ppf to fix it... damn issue should not have happened!, but it happened... must be new installer! working differently... but it installed everything fine, just renamed them immidiately as well, which is caused by the preflight script in place... damn thing... will do it again, but it will be done correctly this time... tongue.gif

MR_CP, you will have it succeeded, but it wont boot because acpi apic and some other files will be renamed so osx will not load them... i will fix it again... this should not have happened though... but for some funny reason, scripts are still run even while installing...

normal order is >>> preflight run, done, files installed, done, postflight run... somehow new installer running them in different order...

booting back to my desktop, to fix this quickly...

then i reinstalled and used 9.4.0 kernel instead of 9.5.0 and its working fine! 2 reboots, everything ok!

Hi guys!
I'm Marco from Italy (sorry about my Eng.) and I'd like to buy a netbook in order to use it with Leopard.
I read that in the MSI U100 everything works fine but the battery if bad, isn't it?
What about the NC10 in the end?
What is the best netbook to use with Leopard, in your opinion, the U100 or the NC10?

I don't understand if the LAN card of the NC10 is not supported in Leopard or if it's a sw/driver problem... for me it's very important to get the wired LAN working, does the LAN in U110 works?

I can't get the files you post from rapidshare... can you give me some alternative free link please?

Many thanks!

In my opinion and probably the same for the others on this thread, yes the samsung probably is the best for osx86, the reason being you get so much for your money and apart from changing the wifi card everything pretty much works, and you get a 6-cell battery life which gives you around about 5 hours + on either operating system meaning an amazing little portable laptop, erm regarding the lan, you'll need to speak to mysticus about that, but from what i've read on various forums it doesn't seem to be working at the moment due to driver support, unless i'm mistaken of course.

its around about an inch and a half long, so not too big, its a little wider than an official apple logo...so you'll need to increase its size slightly if your thinking of covering the samsung logo with an apple badge!

But if in future i will update to a 10.5.5 or 10.5.6 can i update or i can't?

Hi guys just one question,I see everyone here sustituted the original wi fi card with the dell 1490,which is B/g wireless, some guys used intel 5300 draft N,which is n wireless.
my question are:is there a wifi card which supports both Windows and Leopard and is n wireless?
does a n wireless card consume more energy?
thank u

it is possible, but one issue is that not all ide/usb converters work very well when it comes to passing boot information... just letting you know...

however it is def possible, and i will make a newer guide which i mentioned earlier, with the new method, you will not need usb dvd/keyb/mouse at all, all will be done from your system.... smile.gif of course if you dont find my partitioning suggestions WEIRD... smile.gif
RolyBiffy
well i think as long as i get the right distro and drivers ill be fine

as i have OS X now running on my desktop (on it now) with very little fiddling and jsut my kalyway disk!

i have a usb keyb/mouse
and im not getting it till xmas day so its all good !

although i still tempted by the nicer look of the wind, the battery is a big one for the samsungg!

OK GUYS TEST IS A SUCCESS!

YOU WILL BE ABLE TO GET THE PPF INFO FROM POST #1 AND FILE FROM BIKE TOWN AS USUAL... smile.gif

FOR UPDATING IT TO 10.5.5 PLEASE BE PATIENT I WILL LET YOU GUYS KNOW 1-2 INFO FIRST... smile.gif

@Mysticus C

Don't want to be rude or downplay all the work you have been doing, but would it not be easier to produce a ppf for the windosx86.iso using the correct system.kext to eliminate the usb problems. It should provide same result and is a lot easier... tongue.gif

Appreciate you work though !

partly you are right, but i dont wanna involve into boot-132 process, and debug user errors later...

also the drivers in the msiwind iso, not all of them working well for the nc10, mate... smile.gif at least gfx didnt work fine with me.. but ps2 is fine...

the next issue will be update related, since it is using boot132, i will have to fix those additional drivers that are loading... and fix that additional driver cache as well... well will make a bit more issues for me in the long run...

appreciate your comment, but i like to stick to things that i know better, i dont wanna go into details of msi wind to learn it all over again...

maybe it is good, but it is done for the purpose of msi winds... so if it has patches, it will work on msi, but will leave me to death to find what those additional changes needed since many of them are driver specific...

i ve done the nc10 already now... and everything will work OTB as the msiwind! isnt it better to say i m using Samsung NC10 osx86 than to say i m using msiwind for my samsung tongue.gif

well jokes aside, it is done already, and done nicely i think, next step is to modify the update packages for 10.5.5 (only ps2 needs to be changed now)

everything will work OTB smile.gif

cheers and enjoy...

(I highly recommed this little program, http://perian.org/, if you are planning to watch any type/format of movie using quicktime...)

If you don't like quicktime also look out for vlc player, works perfectly with everything i've chucked at it http://www.videolan.org/

will test out the ppf tonight when i get home, still at uni and my jas copy is being redownloaded, will let you know how it goes

any test results/feedback guys?

I'm still waiting for my dw1490. I have a BCM43xx from my old TX1000 at hand right now, but I don't know if it works OTB or not. Besides, I think dw1490 would have better signal strength than BCM43xx, so I wait

it should work if it s 43xx series... however you know that this is a mini-mini pci-x card... not the normal ones... because there are sligltly bigger models as well... anyways, you will see what i mean when you open the case smile.gif

My jas download is on 92% as soon as its done i can test it out and let you know the results as soon as i can
