it was already 10.5.6 and you were just tryig to update it to 10.5.6 for no reason

You could try to extract RARs with RAR Expander (http://rarexpander.sourceforge.net).
It often succeds in expanding multi-part passworded RARs, that - for example - Stuffit isn't able to manage sometimes.

You should not have Stuffit installed on your mac, it's turned into a horrible piece of software over the years. For an alternative .sit decompressor, try The Unarchiver.

I'm in business! Firefox allowed me to specify "binary file" in its save dialog. I guess the blame is on Safari interpreting the bytestream in .rar files as text?

Hey guys, great job in getting OS X to run on the NC10. I just bought mine, but I'm a bit confused - the blog post on Wired (
here) makes no mention that the ethernet port doesn't work in his list of cons, and the compatibility chart (
here) says it does work.
Is it a futzy tweak, or a different build that got theirs running? Did they not really test that? Are the UK and US versions that different? Is someone misinformed?
And, what's up with the search feature on this site? I did a search for NC10 and it comes up empty. ?!

Wired table is wrong.
Ethernet LAN port doesn't work in MacOSX as there are no drivers (yet?).
Search feature on this forum works very bad... often doesn't work at all... don't know why.

Installation runs without any problems and I selected the nc10 package(s).
But when I restart the Samsung after the installation it shows the Apple logo for 2 sec and then it reboots. I've enabled EDB in the bios, and installed it with an external dvd player.
Anyone who knows how to fix this?

have you checked the md5 of the final iso? also please double check the EDB setting! you may have enabled it but if you dont save it b4 you quit bios, it will not mean anytg...
also you are the only one so far if you enabled edb and it still reboots constantly... so it sounds like download error? or user error? somewhere...

Yes I've checked it more than once, took the download from demonoid and this is my MD5 hash:

Which is exactly the same as the original one.
Some more nfo:
Bios version: 04CA
Fujitsu Harddrive
1GB of Ram
Also, when starting without the dvd I get the message: boot1:error
My harddrive is completely formatted and the only partition is the one with OSX.
To get to the Apple bootscreen I have to connect the dvd drive, let it boot and don't press any button. But after that it reboots when you see the white screen and the Apple logo.
Maybe my harddrive is broken or something like that, but it doesn't make sense because XP/Vista/7 and Linux all run fine.
Edit: Now i'm going to try what it does if I install WinXP first, then make the non-formatted partition and install OSX again. Maybe I got the error because I created an empty partition with a linux live cd (Linux Mint). Or maybe OSX something from the mbr of Windows?

Woooohh, IT'S WORKING!
What did I do?
First I deleted all my partitions to begin with a clean harddisk.
Then I booted the XP setup, created my ntfs partition and installed XP.
After the installation I made a new unformatted partition and did a reboot.
Then I loaded the OSX setup and installed it again, to bad, still reboots at startup.
But I was able to get to the chameleon bootmenu, and used the command -v
This did the trick and let me boot into OSX!
Now after several reboots it still works, also without -v
Don't have a clue why it didn't work before, but hell, it works now!
Thanks Mysticus!

did you update your bios or it came with 04ca? it may be a glitch for edb setting in bios, restarting constantly is sign of edb setting not on!... however if you are able to boot now, that is fine... first time reboot after install will/may have boot problem, but going into f4 menu and coming back out resolves it, later you should not have the problem anymore...

That's what I'm also trying to solve...
So far I only have two partial solutions, as unfortunately I don't have an external monitor:
- sometimes, just to read the content of windows/dialogs that don't fit into the screen: F9 (Expose' All Windows)
- in some cases, to click buttons that are below the bottom of the screen: hide menu bar with this application (http://www.eternalstorms.at/utilities/presentyourapps/index.html); you just recover about 20 pixels, but sometimes it's enough to drag the window up and click the buttons on the bottom of the dialog (like in Skype prefs, if I remember correctly).
- NOTE: some applications don't behave very nicely when you hide the menu bar (in these cases, I hide the menu bar, setup prefs, and then unhide the menu bar).
Any other ideas?
Ciao!

for resolution, there is a funky way of temporary solution (i got it from somewhere which i dont remember now, but it is in my notes

). but warning taht it may cause some program menus/fonts to act strange at times... varies program to program!
Open
Finder / Applications / Utilities / Terminal.app
In
terminal,
type
(i dont know if
sudo su is needed or not as i have not tried this yet myself

)
defaults write NSGlobalDomain AppleDisplayScaleFactor 0.8 this will give you
1280x750You have to
logout and login again for changes to take effect and this to work!
Example usages!
defaults write -g AppleDisplayScaleFactor 0.7 this will give you
1462x857==========================================================
below this may not be suggested

as things will be painfully not readable!!!
==========================================================
defaults write -g AppleDisplayScaleFactor 0.6 this will give you
1680x1000defaults write -g AppleDisplayScaleFactor 0.5 this will give you
2048x1200
defaults write -g AppleDisplayScaleFactor 0.4 this will give you
2560x1500 (i dont know if the gm950 supports this resolution and further more?)

Regarding resolution problems, I've found two apps which help to different degrees
Artguiscale -
http://theape.biz/ automates what mysticus wrote about. It's a widget. But any pixel/drawn elements in the desktop will mess up
Much more useful is Megazoomer.
http://ianhenderson.org/megazoomer.html. This allows you to zoom any app full screen. Since the button is usually only a little off-screen this is mostly a good solution. Better than presentmyapps since it appears as an option under 'window' in the menu bar
Hope those help

I bet you have something wrong with your setup, 'cause it should take around 1,5-2 seconds to adjust the screen brightness with Quicksilver's triggers. Within this time icon is quickly displayed on the screen and straight after that the brightness changes (+/-).
How about if you run the scripts directly in Terminal, is it any faster?

Thanks. I don't know how to use terminal.
I have it set up in quicksilver exactly as described, simply as triggers, and it does work fine, just takes ages. To be fair sometimes it's 5 seconds, but it's still sluggish. Tried in Butler too. Same

Ooh, I can't wait to try the resize/zoom feature, great find, guys!
For those who didn't try it yet: I installed the ClamShell.kext and it works great when on battery mode - as soon as I close the lid, it goes right to sleep. Opening the NC10 does nothing - I have to press the power button to resume.
However, when I plug in the AC adapter and the lid is closed, the NC10 goes into an endless sleep-resume loop. It only stops when I either unplug the AC adapter or open the lid.
Since I'd like to charge my NC10 when the lid is closed, it looks like ClamShell.kext will be removed until someone can figure that out.
On a side note, any luck on the internal mic? I feel we're so close to having a near-perfect Hackintosh on the NC10 (I've got a Dell 1390 for Wi-Fi). The internal LAN I can do without for now, but I'd still like it. After all, the MacBook Air doesn't have an internal LAN either.
Perhaps there's a really tiny USB mic that looks like a little stub, kinda like some really tiny Bluetooth adapters I've seen. ?

brightness triggers runs slow when you run them very first time, after it is run the first couple of times, it becomes smooth and fast, due to cold start and startup up background processes first run is slow...

Must be something strange then because I've been setup with OSX (running otherwise smoothly) for over a month now and brightness hasn't improved in speed. It's a minor niggle anyway.

Hey guys,
I haven't been posting a lot, but I'm reading the thread every day.
I stumbled upon an installation problem yesterday which I haven't been able to resolve since. And this is my 25th or so install - all others worked perfectly.
Hardware:
Stock German NC10, stock WiFi (don't need airport... yet), 2GB
Situation:
3 Partitions - 1. Vista, 2. OSX, 3. Data (fat32)
Install Source:
Complete 10.5.6 ISO from shragle, installed from a bootable USB-Stick, MD5 checks out
Process:
-So I start the installation onto the second partition (primary, no letter assigned in Vista)
-Full installation runs smoothly
-after installation finishes and nc10 restarts i get a blank screen that says:
"boot1: error"
I've checked the dirve in Gparted - all partitions are well and intact.
I've searched the forum and web as good as i could, but didn't find zilch.
I'll keep looking, but maybe on eof you has a quick 'n dirty answer for me.

currect iso doesnt have dsdt support but you can get dsdt easy anyway, also you can use the pcwiz tools for installing for much easier solution...

I tried to press/hold down power button but nothing change, so I have to shutdown the system pressing power button down for several seconds and it is frustrating and dangerous.
How can we fix this bug?

I have tried all the obvious fixes, even if they're actually meant to fix other problems. Recovery with F4 does nothing, wiping the partition and reinstalling does nothing. If I set the VISTA (not XP, guys) partition back to active, it boots with no problems. Also I think (but am not sure) that Vista doesn't have a boot.ini anymore.
I'm kinda stumped here. Anyone multibooting OSx86 with Vista or W7 around here? Cause I don't know if it's an NC10 issue, or something general.

I have tried all the obvious fixes, even if they're actually meant to fix other problems. Recovery with F4 does nothing, wiping the partition and reinstalling does nothing. If I set the VISTA (not XP, guys) partition back to active, it boots with no problems. Also I think (but am not sure) that Vista doesn't have a boot.ini anymore.

i dont know really what is causing the issue, but i will check a standalone osx to be run to see what it will bring...

For those who split their hard drive between Windows XP and Mac OS X:
Has anyone noticed that the time is off immediately upon bootup of the other operating system? I'm usually off by five hours, so I have to resort to syncing with time.apple.com and time.windows.com, but that leaves the first few minutes of the boot up a bit off, and that may throw off alarms, reminders, and other things before it corrects the time (if I happen to be connected to the Internet at that moment, too).
