That should work. I have a ubuntu live usb stick and use gparted with that. Everything seems to still be there exactly as it was. But I dont see an option to reassign a drive letter. I can only format the drives. Could you tell me how to assign the drive letters without formatting?

I did it with a partition manager running in XP, but it seems you can't access any of the OS'es sad.gif The only way i can figure out is to remove the drive and attach it to another pc. But that means you have to remove the cover of the NC10...
Or just install XP again on the same partition it's sitting now, don't know for sure which way is quicker...

Pressing F4 at boot worked for me. Could start my system again. Kinda sad I didnt try this before. My data partition is still gone though. Will use partitionmanager then, but I wonder if this will work. The space is "unallocated". I dont know what is the reason, but that also happened when I installed osx first time. Maybe worth a warning. It was a primary umts partition of about 80gb at the end of the disk with just data.

Just for clarification, so I dont look retarded. I deleted the samsung recovery software, but F4 still helped for this part.

@jdenbrok:

If the partition(s) used to work and for some reason some of them now show up as unallocated space, your partition table might be messed up. You might wanna check this, there are numerous freeware programs which you can put on a stick or burn to disk and boot, to examine and to repair your partition table. Maybe that helps.

Cheers,

The torrent got taken down because archives with passwords are not permitted on demonoid.
"No passworded archives."-http://www.demonoid.com/faq.php"
I believe this is the best way to seed the file though.

If you like, I can seed in public as well, give me a minute, I will upload it there.
After some consideration, I have decided not to upload it to a public trakcer. Demonoid is very easy to get into. I believe people are more likely to seed back on demonoid then on THP or some other publi tracker. This is not something with a very high demand so I believe it is important people keep seeding. If someone disagrees with me feel free to upload the file to a public tracker if you want too.

I have a high upload rate, but am currently seeding around 600 transfers, so i will be uploading only at around ~70kb/s

Ok this is the third image i downloaded and they all have the same (wrong!) md5 checksum:
if i'm correct it should be this:

but the checksum from the green devil image is this:

edit: the checksum is correct, so now i have 3 images tongue.gif

what program do you use to check md5?

in windows i suggest "AccuHash" bcoz many md5 calculators using old algorithms hence calculating wrong md5!

I've reinstalled the 10.5.6 installer (did not wipe first) updated the patches and find that brightness is still freezing ... ahh!! Also Keychain won't launch which is where I was hoping to kill any reference to the brightness password being saved from a previous round.

A full Zero format reinstall later and this is all working! Kind of a pain clearly as there was no resolution without such a drastic option, but at least things re-install pretty quickly.

Once more - great work on this iso / patch process Mysticus C! My NC10 is rocking the hackintosh!

Does anybody know if OSX Retail can be installed on the Samsung NC10 with everything working?

I would like to know, Would I be best buying this or the Advent 4211?

I will not post any more demonoid invitation codes here. I have none left but thankfully my girlfriend was so kind as to give me some of hers. smile.gif

I am sorry, you are right. Didnt realize my problem is the same as it sais "after installation". Sorry, will try to read even more carefull further. Do you also have an explanation for my data ntfs partition being lost when installing osx? Happened twice. Will try to fix my partitiontable tonight. Couldnt do it yesterday as my girlfriend thought I was already messing up enough.

partition table should not be effected! if you didnt use a partion manager program to finger around! I did this on my system several times with so many partitions, and didnt see any of them being effected! The only possible explanation is your partion manager screwed it up for you...

atmasphere: i told you, you screwed up things yourself somehow, clean install was the only solution and as you see it worked!

nscx: yes retail install is possible, and you will need to make either a efi partition for boot and extensions, or somehow create a partition with a special efi folder in it with extensions in order to install retail. Either one requires your own manual process and care, in my current process I dont support it, but in the future release i m planning to implement that solutin, for safer updates and etc... Previously i didnt use the method due to many people had so different mixed systems, and lack of knowledge and experience on the process both on my side and on newbies. It is pretty easy process, but there are still some small glitches to overcome, and once done, i will incorporate the full retail install process (with efi folder or partion)

I dont have a partition manager except for windows xp. When I installed the first time I had a 15gb xp drive. A second unused partition which I made because I planned to install osx of 55gb and my data partition of 80gb. All made by xp manage option and all primary.
I followed your guide exactly, except that I only deleted this second partition and I used 25gb for (evantually) osx1 (primary), 25gb for OSX2 and 5gb for the DDMAC (both on extended). Further I did everything exactly as described, I had the guide running on a seperate computer and went slide for slide. Everything went smooth (didnt even need F4). But when I restarted in windows to set that partition active I saw that my data drive was gone. It was also gone in Leopard. I created a new drive and got as much as possible back with recova.
2nd time had installed w7 on the OSX2 drive. Saw still the option to boot as osx, but first installed drivers etc on windows 7. Wanted to check osx and it didnt work. Figured w7 did something and just wanted to reinstall osx. During installation, where you have to erase disk the two disks in the installer I noticed that my data drive already didnt show there. Aborted installation, couldnt startup, pressed F4, could start, but the data partition was gone in both xp as w7. Shown as allocated space in xp, just like first time.

When I couldnt start up I once started ubuntu live and checked gparted, saw the data drive already as unallocated space, the rest still looking good. Searched for option to assign letters, but didnt find that and left gparted and ubuntu leaving everything untouched.

still does not make any sense... osx installation doesnt delete partition, it only changes the active partition flag, and causes small glitch, i have 1-2-3- primary -4 extended partition area for for 5-6-7 logical partitions, and after install none of them are deleted. you are the first one most likely having this trouble as no single person complained about this!

can you explain your partition scheme type (something like above? the order of partitions and which are primary and extended-logical)? have you changed/removed your recovery partition and or tried using GUID partition table somehow?

I am without my nc10 here, this is what my partitions look like: I made a small mistake before, forgot about one drive on my extended partition. The osx disks are smaller. I did delete my recovery partition. I reinstalled xp using http://www.eeeguides.com/2007/11/installin...-usb-thumb.html before and that requires you to format the whole drive. My xp is pro sp3 corperate.

before any osx
partition 1: primary ntfs (with winxp) active, 15gb, c:
partition 2: primary ntfs, 55gb, e:
partition 3: primary ntfs, (with data) 80gb, d:

after osx install 1
partition 1: primary ntfs (with winxp) active, 15gb, c:
partition 2: primary osx1 (the one from the guide with library) (no further info in xp), 20gb
partition 3: extended partition, 35gb total
-OSX2, (the one from the guide with library), 20gb
-DDMAC partition (no further info in xp), 5gb
-empty extra secondary partition (planned to use for backups), ntfs, 10gb, e:
unallocated space 80gb, made it --> partition 4: primary, ntfs, 80gb, for data, d:

After second install
partition 1: primary ntfs (with winxp) active, 15gb c:
partition 2: primary, OSX1, (did still erase this when I started installing leopard, so its the type of the guide, but nothing installed), 20gb
partition 3: extended partition 35gb
-windows 7, 20gb f: (I deleted this partition and let windows 7 reformat the drive)
-DDMAC partition (no further info in xp), 5gb
-empty extra partition (planned to use for backups), ntfs, 10gb e:
unallocated space 80gb

I still havent found a backupprogram I like therefor the e-disk is still empty.

Drives are in the order xp shows them.

It is kinda like yours, except I have a primary disk after the extended. Maybe thats the problem then?

First off mysticus isn't a sales rep...
secondly, your question about 'retail version' has been answered on this forum and infact many others.
thirdly, and most importantly read the forum and faq a few times before asking a question or attempting to install.

With any hackintosh YMMV...
NSCXP2005
Thats not a nice way to speak to somebody Adamcarter,

I was just asking his option.
Second: The retail version of OS X on this laptop has not been answered. I know it runs on other laptops, I was asking can it be installed on the Samsung NC10.
Third: I do read the faqs and forums. I just wanted to know by mysticus as he has been doing this type of stuff alot longer than both of us have.

The guide says you need one though my trackpad and keyboard worked fine. I had a usb keyboard and mouse on standby though when I first installed

I installed it for the first time last night and all went well. Some of the last screens were different from the tutorial, but i guessed the author had just imporved the install. I never needed the usb keyboard until i got to the screen "press key to the right of the left shift key" etc. Would i still need it for this part of the install? The reason i ask is, i borrowed the usb keyboard and have given it back. Now i want to re-install with smaller partitions.

Please advise,

Why don't you try using gparted or parted magic first? I know that parted magic will let you resize partitions (and add more partitions) without necessarily messing up your install. That said, no program is perfect - so it might mess up your install. But since you are planning on reinstalling anyways you might as well try one of these other programs first and see if it will work. It might save you some time.

jdenbrok: for some reasons, osx does not like primary partitions after secondary partitions (i came across some glitches before as well, but not like deleting them it is totally unheard off)... although does not make sense... i can suggest you do have your osx partitions at the end... for example

part 1 primary 15gb for xp
part 2 primary 80gb? data partition for whatever reasons
part 3 primary 20-30?gb for osx1
part 4 secondary rest of hdd for ddmac and other backup/data logical partitions (as in the guide keep one 4.4 gb partition for ddmac purpose, and if you want a timemachine partition, use same amount of space as osx1 for another osx partition)

should be fine...

also were there any data/formated space in that 80 gb unallocated space?

Maybe this helps: I had a similar problem with an external harddrive, after installing W7 i couldn't locate it anymore. For some strange reason my drive letter was gone. With a partition manager i could see the partition, so i reassigned a drive letter. After that everything was ok.
But i have another problem, i downloaded the image (NC10_JaS.OSx86.10.5.6.Intel.SSE2.SSE3_Mysticus.iso) from 2 different locations and i checked the MD5 checksum. Both images appear to be the same but the checksum is wrong:
It should be:
766E0A44E0E55CCCCB4942DBD3FC3D87
but my images gave me this:
8DF704D7A51E812CE1B27857D63831CD
So is it possible there's a corrupted image floating around... ?

I assume this is true, my two copies gives wrong hashes too. And failed after rebooting with the -v switch

localhost diskarbitration[unable]
to repair /dev/disk0s6(status code 0x0000008)
localhost mDNSResponder[37]: Couldn't read user specified Computername
same local hostname

I did exactly follow the guidelines, only difference: I'm using the latest bios from Samsung

What program did u use to verify the MD5 hash?

There was all my data there, but most of it I also have on another computer. Only problem is that I also had the back up from the jas iso on there. Spend one day downloading those 20 parts of shraggle. But I think I can probably recover it also with some program, worked last time for 80% of my data. First I will spend this evening trying to repair the partition in a proper way.

Edit: partitionmagic could fix it but wanted money. Testdisk http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk did it for free. Went so easily. I think I will keep current partitioning and just reinstall partition tree again after I installed osx. Will first start seeding.

It's very likely that there are corrupted images floating around.

2nd i now have the Intel 5300 AGN PCIe WiFi card installed, i'm aware it's not recognized by OSX, but it has great speed. What is a similar (speedwise) card that i can install?

wifi card suggestion is made in the first post of this topic, go for dell dw 1490...

for boot problem, you got to explain your problem clearly, saying i got boot problem doesnt mean anytg, what is happening, and what you see on the screen, and screen cap maybe more helpful

about the boot problem, first line, message:
"Operating System not found"
second line: a blinking cursor
That's all.
edit1: i plugged in my USB XP install stick, rebooted and to my surprise it booted into XP smile.gif
edit2: i'm getting there (i think) i'll go to bed now and in a few hours i will be at it again, if it all will work i have the option to boot XP, VISTA or W7. And if i choose XP i have the option to boot XP or OSX gun.gif

Or why not a BCM4321 (Dell 1505) for 25$/17£. Got mine for 16£ tongue.gif

Cards badged as HP are usually much cheaper than the dell cards, but they still uses the same chip biggrin.gif.

In case folks were interested, Dense posted a couple of screen shots (sort of) of the progress being made on the audio driver. You can see the post here: http://forums.msiwind.net/mac/hda-audio-so...t-t7626-40.html

Unfortunately, it looks like the voodoo team isn't quite done yet, but it is nice to see the progress they are making.

I did as I said, installed osx again. After the install the computer did a reboot and only got boot1 missing. F4 didnt work anymore. But i used gparted to flag the windows drive at boot and it worked. Used testdisk to get my data drive back. °I think everything works now. And I am actually getting the feeling I am learning things smile.gif

To help the people to decide which wifi card they could select, I give you my personal experience on it.

I bought an Atheros 5008 card which works perfecty on my triple boot XP SP3 / Ubuntu 8.10 / OSX 10.5.6.
I selected a wifi N card since I have all my data stored on a NAS, I did not yet tested it in Wifi N (my router is on the way to home) but with wifi G is already working "out of the box". Only XP needs a driver.

For the one interested, I bought it on ebay to a seller named notebookelite. It cost me 28$ + 7$ for transport from Hong-Kong to France (In Euro it finally cost me 25€).
For info it's written Toshiba on this card.

I'm really happy since I lost to much time trying to tweak the samsung's card without success, here the problem was solved in 5 minutes (thanks to this guide for clean opening of the NC10).

Next step for me is to test the wifi N and to add a third antenna inside the NC10 if needed. Anyway I have to find this small antenna also... I saw another ebay shop were the guy was selling the same 5008 card + 3 antennas, but my order was already launched. So now I need to find this antenna.

And I would like to take the opportunity to thanks Mysticus for his great job !

Well, today i found this thread about a marvell yukon network driver.
As I'm at work I can't test it out. Might this be a solution to get the LAN working?

I know, lan isn't really important to the most of us, but it would be for someone a "nice2have".

I thought it was all the same thing, why is 1390 less good?
I already ordered it... sad.gif

@Mysticus C*, got it up and running now smile.gif . Just like to say thanx for this awesome achievement. Absolute great guide you made for installing this. Thanx again for the time and effort you put in to this.
I'm gonna try and use my N95 BT to connect to the internet, so i don't have to buy that WiFi card, not so fast but it will do i guess...

Just managed to install the OS X 10.5.6. iso and it seems to work fine; great work Mysticus, thanks! I do have a few questions left:

- during the install(I installed the latest 10.5.6. iso at once) I didn't have to plugin external keyboard and mouse, is this already implemented in the 10.5.6.? Are all upgrades you hosted seperately(like the trackpad and keyboard plugins) already implemented in this 10.5.6.?

- Working in OS X now, I notice a strange inaccuracy of my mouse and trackpad. It seems to move very slow at first, which gives the feeling of a delay,(when slowly moving the mouse) and then accelerate way too fast. Anyone else experiencing this? Is there a solution? I experience this issue with both my trackpad and with an external BT mouse.

- When I tried to upgrade the brightness icons(with the package you provided), it keeps asking me for the OS X install CD (which I of course don't have). Is this normal and how can I workaround this and install updates like these?
Regarding the brightness: I also noticed that increasing or decreasing the brightness goes extremely slow. It takes a few seconds and then it pops up/down a level of brightness. Almost as if my CPU can't handle the command. No other things are running in the background, so this seemed very odd to me. Again, is this normal and is this issue fixed when installing the new brightness icons?

Thanks in advance!

let me clear it out again, some people miss it, in the install screen, you need choose NC10 option, in order for your drivers to be installed correctly! you may have missed the option and installed plain osx without drivers!

Oahhh, I thought the checkbox was allready filled with an - but now I see must be checked manually! Thank you very much for the help. I like the OS very much it even has a lot of my native language in dutch. I'm now looking for a MAC Usenet reader.
What a nice OS! I'm very happy with it, thanks for the hard work you did. I make a donation soon

djkwai: thanx for the info, we are all really looking forward to it, but i think the days are almost over smile.gif it should be out really soon. well hopefuly...

freqk: read post#1286, i suggested 1490, and many times before, this is what i m using, and didnt have any single problem since the beginning... 1390 is older chipset 1490 is better improved overall in reception and other tech areas smile.gif well people report success with other models as well so choice to make is depending on your research... but 1390 should work as well...

jdnbrok: i dont really know why it happened, and never heard anyone got this trouble either... may be a glitch or maybe something you have done in the process knowingly or not knowingly... but glad to hear you sorted it out.... good luck... good newbie is one that does not stuck with things in front of him, and not scared to try things on his own!

bleu34: are you sure atheros 5008 card is working OTB? i think you wrote something wrong there? bcoz nc10 comes with a variation of atheros 5008 card already... unless the support for 5008 added with 10.5.6 update which i didnt check it myself nor anyone else? anyone can confirm this?

g4-flo: it is a different marvel card mate. solution would be to write your own bsd port to osx, or watch this thread which slice is coming to some sort of results already... but not just yet...

blueheaven: also visit the nc10 files section to find bluetooth on/off fix smile.gif

ninzeo: some drivers are added in the 10.5.6, and some fixes added seperately to nc10 files section later! I can suggest you to install, airport fix for more devices support, brightness icons, bluetooth fix for controling on/off anyime, trackpad fix for showing trackpad menu in the system preferences, uk keyboard layout if you have uk kb, old fb if you want mirroring option to work in osx, as the current latest one works with only desktop extension, and enabling mirroring jerks everything...

also brightness script control should not take very long after first launch (first time it detects the port used which takes a bit of time, but later it should not take more than 2-3 secs... well there are drawbacks in not having real macs smile.gif

trackpad's weird aspect ratio is the most likely causes this strange behaviour, but dont think that disturbing. (X axis moves slower to compansate lenght -left-to-right-, as Y axis is much shorter and moves faster -up-and-down-)

mauritsz: good luck with your system, hope you can enjoy it now...
