Finally, after searching for months I can now get 1900x1200 resolution
on an ATI 3450 (device id 95c5) on OSX.

Here is a link to the Kext.

Thanks to whomever made this available.

can you post a brief how-to guide for this driver for all newbies like me??? I`ve waited for that driver for so long and now I`m so excited, but cant install it on my own sad.gif

P.S Well, i kinda installed it (actually copied the kexts in the extensions folder, but I get white screen after booting in mac os (I see the initial screen with the apple logo, after that it flickers a few times, and the white screen settles after that) How can I solve this?

what else do we need? atix2000 or sth else? please let me know.

A couple of people have emailed me, asking for a "Tutorial". I really didn't
see the need as, it's pretty simple, but here are the steps.

I have an ATI 3450 Radeon HD (95c5). I could only get 1600x1200 resolution
on a 24" monitor that is capable of 1920x1200, and it drove me crazy!
It looks so much cleaner in 1920 vs 1600, though Quartz Extreme is not supported

1.) Goto Applications/Utilities/SystemProfiler
Click on "Graphics/Displays"
Make sure the device ID is 95c5

2.) Download this file and extract.
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...st&id=36622

3.) All of the Kexts in the file need to be installed. The easy way is to get
"OSx86 Tools Utility", and click on "Install Kexts".

LegacyATIRadeonX2000.kext and Natit.kext

4.) Edit the file

/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist

and make these changes:

<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>"Graphics Mode"=1920x1200x32</string>

5.) Reboot, and your all set.

Okay guys, I am glad to see there is forward movement on the ATi front please note this is a standard ATi not a mobility.....

Hi cmid and all smile.gif

I am really interested in how you got this HD 3450 card working as a lot of post's are saying its not possible and I may need to look at buying another graphics card.

I have iDeneb V1.3 10.5.5 leopard

I have tried running -x -v.. although it keeps rebooting whilst loading and I cant catch anything it is failing on.

What do I need to select in the intial setup as additional to install? (customize)??

At the end of the day I just want to get this working. All I want to do is really run logic 8 pro smile.gif

My system is as follows:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ (2.30ghz)
ASUS M2V Motherboard with VIAK8T890/VT8237A chipset
ASUS EAH3450 (ATI HD3450 chipset)

Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks - Daz

Hi guys,
I have a Radeon HD 3470 Card. Is there any chance that this method will work for me also? I have struggled for a long time until I got my LAN and Audio working. The only thing that I need is the Video working...
Please, if anybody knows something about this, tell me
Thanks in advance
jabasc
To the people who got this card working, does it work with two monitors?
Martin Dobrev
I just tried and installed the LegacyATIRadeonX2000.kext and Natit.kext on my HD 3470
I was also able to change the resolution as described, but unfortunately the best I could get is 1152x864 sad.gif

Hi Martin,

Is it a mobility one ?
thx
mitch_de
Beside that i understand ist better to get any res / no QE/CI displayed as nothing, i didnt would say, as thread tite tells : 3450 works !
It works limited if no QE/CI and/or OpenGL apps may get problems !

quick question are you guys removing all other ATi kext and only having this installed or just adding this to the extensions folder?

No, it is not a mobility one.

This was the first kext I installed manually.

I've just installed this on my studio 1537, with a mobility HD3450 (0x95c4 I believe). after adding the vga line (1920x1200x32)to com.apple.boot.plist and rebooting, system profiler shows it as this:

I'm still not getting 1920x1200, which for now would be more than enough to satisfy me with the hd3450 situation. Is this possible?

Hopefully the SP info can help the devs biggrin.gif (I'm more than willing to post any other information, just tell me what)

The kext is only showing what you are telling it to. this is not really a working driver for mobility cards at this point, you were able to change resolution using the boot.plist method becasue you upgraded your LCD when you ordered your system.

There is a new update coming out soon.... that will have more graphic driver info and at that point I am hoping myself or LastExile can come up with something.
kpitstupidsimple
I know it's not a real driver, but I would be very content until the next update with having WUXGA but no QE. I just don't see why I'm getting 1600x1200 instead of 1920x1200, when i'm passing 1920 to com.apple.boot.plist?

(BTW, The LCD upgrade is MORE THAN worth the $150 upgrade.)
ridgeline
Glad you are happy with the upgrade... wish I would have done it be happy you are not stuck at 1280x800 which most of us are.

I am not entirely sure why it stops there for your res, but we will keep working on a driver.
Martin Dobrev
I cannot wait anymore, so I decided to buy a cheap card on ebay. I think of something like GF 7300GS. But I still hope the drivers for 34xx will be out soon ...
A question to the people who said that they need to get their resolution - what is the point of it, when it is not possible to even run Blender or watch videos on youtube?

You are really lucky that you got 1600x1200 smile.gif My monitor is 1680x1050 and when I set this parameters I only get 1400x1050 which is a totally non-standard resolution and 1/6-th of my screen is out of the visible range... Even if i adjust the position settings of my monitor I am still not able to see the whole screen sad.gif

I've already taken mine apart and I seem to think that I can't replace the graphics card (at least not easily...)
I would be content with like an 8600GS or the like. Does anyone know if the Studio 1537 has an MXM graphics card or if it's integrated?
kinky
I followed the instructions from the original poster and I cannot get my card to work.

I have a ATI 3450 (ASUS EAH3450) on a DVI connection to a single monitor. After I load the kexts and reboot, I get to an empty light blue screen and the machine just freezes.

Any clues on how to solve this one ?

I have an Asus EAH3450 and used steps 1-3 of the tutorial then rebooted to find full resolution support. I still don't have QE/CI but this is still wonderful news.

NF4 Lanparty/X2 3800+ (939)/iDeneb 1.3 10.5.5

I just (today actually) ordered a cheap 8400GS 256mb so the 3450 is getting replaced in hopes of full QE/CI (3450 is finding a new home in an HTPC). I just wanted to post and say thanks and it worked.

I already posted this in another thread but since this one is more specific I wanted to post it hear also.

I have the 95c5 EAH3450 (Not the mobility). It is the only newer lower profile card I could get for a resonable price. Is there any chance of getting this to work with QE? Is anyone looking into this? I still can't get 1920x1080 which is the resolution I need for my monitor working. Has anyone got at least that part working?

If no one is working on this can someone inform me what needs to be done and I can look into getting it working? Any and all help is appreciated.

Comments like "It will never work so just upgrade" are not helpful so please don't leave them. This is a decent card for everyday tasks that you can get for 20 bucks and I think it would be benificial to the community to get it working. I am willing to do the work if someone can point me in the right direction of what needs to be done.
The Smile Man
NOTE if you are going to try this you must get ride of your other ATI drivers or it will not let you reboot. Also The best I can get is 1400x1050. I need 1920x1080. Anyone got this to actually work?

lastExil ist still developping new drivers for Ati34xx Series. He will puplish them in a few days. So please wait some days.
daveman123
i followed these steps and for some reason only the second xXXX resolution worked. for example, 1680x1050 became 1400x1050. when i tried 1920x1200 it became 1680x1200. the horizontal is messed up, while the vertical is OK. is this because i didn't uninstall the old drivers? please help.

Click to view attachmentSo i followed the instructions in this thread for getting the 3450 working w/ my Mac Pro... and after installing the kexts (thx for the play-by-play instructions!) my Mac now recognizes the card - an improvement - but it doesnt recognize any monitors plugged into the card! Would it make a difference that the 3450 is my 2nd video card? I even tried swapping the cards - i put the 3450 in the PCI-e slot #1 that the factory nVidia card was in, and moved the nVidia to slot 2. It still works fine even in slot 2, but the ATI 3450 still won't work on DVI or VGA. Any clues? See screenshot.

The link in the first psot works. Installing Leo as we speak, and i'll post the results.. hope it works! I got the audiocard to work (M-Audio Audiophile 192), and if i get this to work, i'll never use Windowz again, lol.

Cheers
