FINALLY got my system up to par....she's rearing to go....but is slowed by stupid IDE. I can't afford at this point to get a SATA HDD of the capacity I would like to get, so I need to settle with IDE for now. HOWEVER, I've got a pretty sweet setup (check sig) that is being held back by a really slow read/write from my IDE HDD.

I found a thread about how to fix it with my specific mobo, but that was for 10.4.8 I think, and when I tried it out....well....I broke my install and had to reinstall (4 hours on IDE).

Are there any universal kexts that would solve the really slow IDE HDD problem? If anyone can help I would be thrilled! Mobo and/or HDD ID's available upon request!

I have ASUS board and it is VIA chipset. My IDE drive is slow, 12MB/sec for sequential read. How to make it faster?

If you are testing the speed by copying files with Finder I think the problem might not be the dvd but finder that is slow to copy files. At least in my setup it is, even though its very fast when making disc images with Disk Utility.
