Hi all! I have a doubt about viruses. I know that MAC OS X doesn't need an ANTIVIRUS but the question is: Could a virus infect a MS Windows partinion on a Dual Boot system through Mac OS X?

Regards!

The virus can only become active if the file in question is accessed by the windows operating system.

BTW, if you receive a windows virus via an email that you transfer to your friends on windows, they'll get infected.
So, an anti virus software on mac only prevent you to transfer viruses to your friends.

Thanks for reply! As you can understand I'm new in MAC World and I feel the need to protect my files.

What about Virus Barrier X5?

Really I don't need any protection?

In Windows this is a UTOPIA.

Thanks!

If you're that paranoid, get ClamXAV.

It's untrue to say there are no viruses for mac. There are. Granted there are not many but never the less there are viruses out there.
It is always a good idea to install anti viruses software on your mac and a network monitor like little snitch just so you can see what is accessing the net.

There are TROJANS, not viruses and the number of them compared to Windows thingies is infinitely small.

OS X requires you to be intentionally stupid, as in "Hi, I'm a virus, type in your password please!!!" Windows things are...well...easier to get.

As for Little Snitch--don't watch porn and pirate software is the only advice to give on that one.
