I bought a Canopus ADVC1394 pci capture card used from amazon for use on a video webcast. It worked great with the streaming software and the streaming server and with quicktime pro. Its an ohci compliant device that requires no driver. The problem is when i have the card in the hac and try to capture with a firewire cable from my dv deck, FCP thinks the audio is coming from the stereo inputs on the card and ignores the dv audio over firewire.

The answer i got from the FCP discussion forums is that it should just work. I tried building my own capture preset and for audio, there is no option for advc audio, just advc video and dv-vcr audio, but when using the dv-vcr audio option it listens to the advc audio inputs

I currently using taruga's patcher for my audio. is there a way to patch the audio or add a device string somewhere, or something that will allow me to capture that dv audio as a device as well as still having the ADVC audio work when I need it.

Also when i try to capture with a minidv cam to the firewire card and i have an external harddrive plugged in it doesnt work. i ether get one or the other. when i plug the minidv cam (canon zr800) the hard drives are ejected.

Cheers!

In switching the position of my pci cards things change. Sometimes I can get audio and video with no control in FCP, sometimes i get control but no audio or video. very strange. any thoughts of anything would help.

Well i'm dumb. You must use the 4 pin firewire to capture any from any firewire source if you have this card in your computer.
