Does anyone have a way to play team fortress 2 in OSX for free? I have a legit copy of the game in steam... I am aware of crossover but are their any free options?

Team Fortress 2 = best game ever!

I've not even got it to run on cedega/wine, so I'm not sure if it'll work on Mac sad.gif

VMWare Fusion 2 Beta? Apply to get a free key, then try to use Unity and play TF2 on Mac? Not sure if it'll work though.

Side note: Yes, Heavy update! Free weekend! tongue.gif

Uh, I meant that I'm not sure if VMWare Fusion 2 (which is currently in beta, which VMWare is making a free download) will work as a free solution.

VMWare Fusion 2 Beta, but it's not going to be free forever. :/

THIS!

But it sucks though that TF2 isn't on the Mac platform...TF2 is a fun game, and isn't that demanding of a game, which is the best part. It would expand TF2 on the computer platform A LOT.

crossover's not the best.. playing the game is really sketchy... it's unstable.. and doesn't support dx9... i've got an 8800gtx and i can barely run the game stabely at minimal video settings.... still looking for another option.. but there really isn't any..

The situation is actually a bit ironic right now. VMWare Fusion 2 final came out, and from my quick testing it's capable of running TF2 rather well. DX9 (SM2) works rather well, and the game looks correct and doesn't run as a slideshow even under VMWare. The problem? The VMWare 3D driver only allows for 128MB of VRAM; if you want to use any high settings you're going to chug like a fratboy because you're out of VRAM. And you can't adjust the amount of VRAM, so you don't have any options here.

Admittedly there's probably a good reason for it to be so low (both for RAM and VRAM consumption I'd imagine) but my Hack has 4GB of RAM and an 8800GTX like yours, so I have more than enough resources to throw at VMWare for more performance. It's a shame right now that it appears to be held back by otherwise artificial limitations.

I just wish the WINE guys could solve the problem with WINE that makes all of the Source engine games chug under WINE. Usually WINE performs much better than a virtualized environment due to the lower overhead, so something is amiss.
