You have the m1330 mine is only for the m1530, you could try the one I made for wingrunr it is for m1330 he said his usb ports stopped working but I am gonna look at it again in a few and try to fix it. But mirror display will work with it.

[edit]

here is that DSDT for the m1330 tried a little something to help out usb, hope it works, and change AZAL to HDEF so you shouldn't need HDAEnabler any more, still need legacy kexts though. Someone please let me know if it works, wingrunr, or danik_iceman.

You got it! USB ports are working after applying your DSDT, so is the video. Unfortunately, after removing HDAEnabler.kext and using your DSDT audio stopped working. There is no input/output device listed in audio settings.

EDIT: Just tested with an external monitor for mirror displays. Didn't work for me with the new DSDT, but probably my monitor is the case or something else, since everyone else is reporting it as working.

EDIT2: Somebody else has to test if sleep is working, I can't test it since I am running Mac OS from external USB hard drive.

That won't work, you need to have "@1,display-cfg" for mirror support, disassemble the one I modified to see.

Also, is there any chance we would get the internal mic working?
That would be awesome!

In Windows if you tap the touchpad it works as a mouseclick. Does this work in OS X as well for you guys?

Does 1080p playback work for you guys? It's lagging here, seems like OSX is not using the graphics card to encode it. Anyone knows how to get it working? I'm thinking of buying an HD display

LOL..I am new to this, and don't what you are talking about here smile.gif

@itdoesntwork - Did you do that to make mirror display working? Or is it just working by default for you?

(Assuming you have installed VoodooPS2Controller with Trackpad option)

Go to System Preferences > Trackpad

Under Trackpad Gestures enable Clicking and Dragging.

If you didn't install Trackpad option, it might be under Keyboard & Mouse, but it's better to just reinstall VoodooPS2, the click Customize and select Trackpad.

Wingrunr21, I've just gone through another sets of clean installs until finally got it all working. What I found out is that if you are using OSx86 Tools, then you have to one kext at a time, and repair permissions after each kext is installed. That's the only way I could get all the kext install successfully. I think you should add that to the second post(General Kext Installation) to say explicitly to install one kext at a time.

Yes, it works OOTB.

Concerning HD Playback: I got it working now by installing Perian. However, in most H.264 Videos the colors are quite strange. When there is a dark scene, it looks like a LQ video from youtube. That doesn't occur with all formats, though.

Hi,

I'm just changed my notebook to a dell xps m1330. My previous one runs well under seven/osx/linux. so i'm starting to apply the same OS configuration.

problem: each time i boot under OSX (iPC 10.5.6 ou Ideneb 10.5.5), the kernel hangs after acpi initialalization ?!?
Somebody else met the problem ?

my bios is last A15. I tried with or without ahci activated.

Thanks for help.

I think I won't add that to the second post because that isn't the case. There are many times I've installed multiple kexts at the same time with OSx86 tools and not had a problem. When installing kexts via OSx86 Tools the program will automatically place the correct kexts. You are the first one I've heard about that's had that problem. Kext Helper (also linked in the second post) may work better for you.

Chrysaor,

I've fiddled with "@1,display-cfg" some for NVinject but so far have been unable to get the data field right. Did you just tweak values until it worked?

For some reason, after I installed Chameleon this time(I chose Forceware=y in the options), at the boot time the most right partition is selected as a default one, so I have to go all they to the left and choose my Mac Os partition. Is there a file in Mac that is equivalent to boot.ini file ini win xp?
I want to change the default OS selected, timeout for default OS to be selected.

This would be awesome to get working. I hook my laptop up to my 46" plasma via HDMI and also get no sound, I have to use a regular headphone jack going to the TV. I don't know if it's possible to do sound because the way macs are. Anyone else have any info on this?

Just wanted to say thank you to Wingrunr21, Talisman, Brandon, and everyone else for making this happen! I now have a perfectly running Mac OS X on my machine dual booting with Windows 7.
Will be waiting for the common minor issues to be solved.

I installed OSX on my m1530 (iAtkos 5i on MBR partition) and everything works except trackpad.

I installed VoodooPS2Controller and i can scroll (no two-finger scroll, but like in windows using scroll-side on right of trackpad).
The trackpad itself however is very buggy. Sometimes the pointer just jumps to another location.

Has anybody encountered this problem? or what could i do to fix this?

Thx
wingrunr21
M1530's don't use Synaptics touchpads so the kext is, at the current time, buggy on them. I'd revert to your old solution for the time being.

Compiled a new M1530 DSDT with audio injector builtin, didn't bothered with pinconfigs and such.

Anyone here with Intel's X3100 Video Card or an Inspiron 13 with X3100 Video Card?
Do you have same shutdown/restart problems?
How about internal Mic?

Has anyone tried to use FireWire port on M1330??

I have FireWire in System Profiler, so the chip is installed and it should work! But nothing comes up in System Profiler (neither in iMovie or Finder) when I plug a DV camcorder or Hard Drive!!

Any Idea?? unsure.gif

Came up with a kext on google.
Is this what you used?

-Will VoodooHDA make the internal mic work for us? (I thought there was no solution for that as of right now)
-Will your BootCD work with Inspiron 1318(With intel graphics)?

Wingrunr, thank you very much for your guide.

After having decent success dualbooting OSX on my 1530 with the iDeneb distro I decided to do clean retail install. I have OSX installed and am at your 'Update to 10.5.6 Vanilla' step (even though I am on 10.5.6 I am sure there are updates to be had).

I installed Chameleon 2.1.0-r431.pkg, I also installed the bootloader from netkas's site - overwriting the boot file in the root.

I grabbed Brandon2004/Chrysaor's DSDT.am for the 1530 (tried the one originally posted and the most recent one) and applied the proper chown/chmod commands.

I removed the boot cd to confirm I booted cleanly and I received what I assume to be a kernel panic (grey screen, pls reboot, etc). After reading through this thread I reinstalled Chameleon and did NOT overwrite the boot file from Netkas. Chameleon screen loaded, chose OSX, and eventually hit the same kernel panic.

I can boot fine using the CD and choosing device 80.

When it boot it doesn't give me the option to do a -v or provide other startup options. Any ideas what could be causing this, or how to best troubleshoot it?

Thanks again!

You should probably try reinstalling the chameleon, I would guess that is what is causing the problem. If that doesn't help, try removing kexts that you installed one by one untill you get the system to boot. If the kext is the one that is always required to boot the system(for example SMbiosResolver, Decryptor, etc) then just try to reinstall those.

Meanwhile, I am have just noticed a problem when I can't boot into Mac Os if I have an SD card inserted in the slot. Do you guys have same effect when having an SD card in the slot? Is there a solution for that?
I need to have it there all the time since I use it for ready boost on the Windows 7 partition.

Do you guys also have the problem where you sometimes loose sound after you put the laptop to sleep?
gman8966
I installed the VoodooHDA kext and it did work, somewhat. I had output sound still, but the volume was quite lower than the AppleHDA kext.

The internal mic did seem to work according to the sound properties in preferences, it could detect when I made noise. But when I tried to test it out using Skype, the other person couldn't hear me no matter what my settings were.

Anyone else have any better luck?

Thanks Danik,

After reading this thread from start to finish I realized I did not copy the kexts from my boot-132 to my installation. I can't find it in the guide portion of thread that I printed out, but found it in a later reply.

@Chrysaor:
I installed your latest DSDT.aml that you mentioned included audio. While the graphics portion work great on my 1530 (QE/CI, VGA out, etc) the audio does not appear to work. Is another kext required?

Yes, you need AppleHDA from http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=142521 for best results.
You don't have to use HDAEnabler/ALCinject/efi strings etc.

EDIT: I confirmed installing the AppleHDA and VoodooPS2 kexts to the /System/Library/Extensions made everything start working. So I suppose I need to figure out why Chameleon isn't loading the kexts from /Extra/Extensions.

I modified the Info.plist of the kexts to have OSBundleRequired = Root, and rebuilt the Extensions.mkext with mkext tool. Any suggestions?

Audio is finicky on these machines. I don't use Brandon's DSDT because it never worked correctly on my machine. So no, I don't know how to solve that problem.

I'd like to again thank everyone who has responded to my questions.

I'm pretty satisfied with the way I have my 1530 configured, but before I go off and start settling in on the system I wanted to check that my performance is within the range that you would expect. I'm attaching my xBench, OpenGL Extensions and OpenMark results. I'd appreciate a quick glance to confirm these are in line with what you would expect.

Thanks again!

OK, this thing is driving me crazy!
I tried re-installing AppleHDA, and HDAEnabler, and the DSDT.aml hundred of times, but no matter what I do I now never get any device listed in the sound preferences. So, after I re-install apple HDA or HDA enabler I don't see any audio device being detected by the system. Some help me with this eratating thing out?

How were you able to get X3100 working with shutdown and restart? Have you got accelerated video with the correct drivers loaded? I was under the impression neither worked.

Did you use a retail install or something else? Can you point me in the direction of the steps you've used?

From reading this thread it sounds like there are loads of problems for some and not for others. Is it strictly related to whether one has an m1330 or m1530 and whether the graphics card is X3100 or Nvidia? I've got an m1330 with X3100 video.

Cheers.

Have been doing both of these things when I was re-installing them.

OK, fixed everything by re-installing them again, but this time I had to plug my mic to the mic jack, and it worked. I think it has something to do with that, like when switch the jacks functions.

Another thing I wanted to ask, does the disable wifi hardware button work for you? For me it works half way, once you disable the wifi, you can't re-enable it. Or if you boot the OS with disabled wifi switch position then it is not working too. Do you experience same thing?

Yeh there's nothing you can do about this due to the fact that there's no power management in the wifi drivers compatible with the XPS.

Chrysaor
Just a heads up, 10.5.7 makes HDMI (not the output, but the input in the monitor) sort of unusable (no native resolution), so if you are using HDMI->HDMI you will be affected. HDMI->DVI etc works fine.
