Original title: Is GeForce GTX 260/280 support possible?
Original post: I was looking at picking up a new card soon. Before the card came out, I read it was based on G92. I don't know if that was a rumor or not. Does anyone have one, or know what it's based on?

The GTX 260 and 280 are *similar* to G92, but it's a much more advanced design than the 8800GT/9800GTX so i doubt the existing drivers will work.
not with 10.5 for now, maybe in a future patch. 10.6 is looking like it will support it tho.

Bump...
Anyone using one or more 260/280 now? My main concern is multi-mon support.

Here's the thread that I helped someone with their GTX260 and I know this through experience as I personally own one of these monster cards.

I did it exactly the same way that Josh D did it, but I didn't feel like putting it in my Boot.plist because I move my computer around a lot, using my 1920x1200 monitor and a 1280x1024 monitor. If you want to try it out, just type the same thing you would put in the Boot.plist as your boot options at startup.
Oh and the string is formatted like this:
CODE
"Graphics Mode"="[width]x[height]x[depth]@[Refresh Rate]"
EX: For the 1920x1200 resolution I use this as a startup parameter, either at boot time, or in your Boot.plist:
CODE
"Graphics Mode"="1920x1200x32@60"

Hello Users of the GTX 260,
there are a lot of posts that this card doesn´t work, but you can install the card, it works with a resolution of your choice, for example "1680*1050*32 or 1280*1024*32.
Also Qicktime is displaying movies and you get a sound with a little tool, also the Divxplayer works for me.
I tried a lot of drivers before and i always had problems to start the OSX regular with my GTX260.
So i deleted the
GeForce.kext
NVDAN40Hal.kext
NVDAN50Hal.kext
NVDAResman.kext
NVKush
i also edited the com.apple.boot.plist and defined the resolution
"Graphics Mode"="1680*1050*32"
The " needs to be typed in, if you don´t find it, it is the "shift" Ä" key on a german keyboard :-)
To get sound on the avi movies, i installed "Perian_1.1.3" an easy tool.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
If you already tried to install your geforce and the system won´t boot even if you trie the save mode "-X", than you can as mentioned, delete the kext in the singlemode and the system will start again in vesa-mode.
So do the following:
sbin/mount -uw /
LS /System/Library/Extensions
you´ll see the list with your kext
delete wrong kext:
rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/GeForce.kext
rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/NVDAN40Hal.kext
rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/NVDAN50Hal.kext
rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/NVDAResman.kext
then type in:
reboot
now, the system will boot again normally, you can work like before and try some different things.
I don´t know how often you read the tip but i searched a while for this informations so i took them in this lillte post.
Good luck to you all

Basically, you need Snow Leopard which works with QE & CI fine. Here it is with dual cards in my hack. Note the driver version 1.6 in Open GL Extensions Viewer.

However, I suspect support will be along soon in either 10.5.7 or 10.5.8. Unfortunately, Snow Leopard drivers are not backwards compatible with Leopard, they are just too different.

So is there no possibility to run QE with a GTX260 at the moment?
I tried so many different things, but i failed.
Any idea would be fine...or no chance?

There is no way to get 260/280 on Leopard at the moment. You must have Snow Leopard. The earliest looks to be possibly 10.5.8.

I have an entirely different problem. I have a GTX 260 and a build of snow Leopard, 10a261. It works, but when the desktop would normally come up, I just get a black screen. Is there anything like nvinject or nvkush that works on these beta builds of snow Leopard?

I don't know how similar the cards are, but I have my GTS 250 1024MB working 100% with QE and CI. No strings required, just a single kext. If anyone has a GTX 260 and would like to try out my NVinject.kext I'd be happy to upload it. I'm pretty sure the cards are completely different though aren't they?

Hey SkyFluff, I want to install OS X on my C2D / p45 machine and I've got 2 GTS 250s (used just for folding@home). Could you upload your GTS 250 driver? Also did you have to do anything special during install? I plan to use one of my Kalyway discs to install OS X.
It's been a while since I've installed OS X, so I'm prob gonna be a little rusty

Thank you! That was all I was missing. Now I'm running build 10a286 with no problems (as of yet...). All I did was edit the GTX 280 plist file on that page to rename my card to GTX 260 and specify the RAM amount.

Here is the GTS 250 Kext a few of you have been requesting. I've included the 512MB and 1024MB strings for the different card models. Hope it works for you guys. There's a read me file included for those who need help, and the disclaimer that pops up when you mount the DMG also includes the instructions.

Apr 4 2009, 12:58 PM
GeForce GTX260 is a totally different GPU. It's based on the GT200-Chip unlike the GTS250 which is based on the G92b-Chip.
But there's hope for GTX-Series Support:
http://www.macrumors.com/2009/04/01/snow-l...boost-and-more/QUOTE (MacRumors.com)
... a Mac Pro bump to 3.2GHz with Quadro FX 5800
Quadro FX 5800 is based on the GTX285 and uses the GT200b-Chip. So in future versions of Mac OS X there will probably be GTX-Series-Support.

The Rumor doesn't say that GTX-Series will work with Snow Leopard. It says that Mac Pro will be upgradable to Quadro FX 5800 and this will probably happen before Snow Kitty is released. That means GTX-Series support in 10.5.x.

Did anyone try the XxX_x86_10.5.6_Install_Disc_Universal_Final v.2?
I saw there is Ndarwin, Nvkush, Nvinject 768mb support option, does it fully suport the GTX 260 768mb?

Just because Ndarwin, Nvkush and Nvinject supports a 768mb option doesn't mean it supports a GTX 260 768mb card.

I would think that the final 10.5.7 will have support for GTX260/280 cards and is imminent, but if support is not there in the combo update, (as the later 10.5.7 installed on the Mac Pro build may be slightly newer) it should only be a case of getting the kexts from a new Mac Pro to gain support.

I would think check back here under the Nvidia section, as soon as it's released and we get the 260/280/285 going all hell will break loose! As you can see from the similar device id's all cards should be supported, obviously the GTX 295 may suffer the same potential problems as 9800 GX2.
