Still no information on price that I could find. If they increased hardware support it would be nice too (although I suspect that's something you'll see in coming weeks as they test and work with more hardware).
iSkylla
If the ALC889A codec is supported, I can't imagine that the ALC888 isn't supported, they're practically the same. But yay, my motherboard, CPU and graphics card is supported.

All my hardware is supported thumbsup_anim.gif

True, but I wouldn't want to spend "x" number of dollars on something that might not work for me. Of course, if they wanted to give one to me for testing purposes... smile.gif

for example my p5ld2-vm se isn't in their list, but, it all worked fine, i just had to sue patched applehda kext, from my another leo installation, other thigns works like a charm,

So, most ich7-based mobo with compatible nic should works jsut fine.

True enough. There's hope yet then. I wonder if my wife's MSI 945GM3 - F motherboard would work then too... it also has the ICH7 chipset on it.

You know, I just don't know what I would do with myself if I could install and upgrade like a normal mac.

So why all the Gigabyte love ?

Is work being done on top ASUS boards ?

Also, can we assume that firmware updates (downloads) will give
support for newer boards ? Or will a new device have to be purchased ?

Basically, what kind of storage capacity does this device have ?

Also, will their be constant development for newer boards that can
just be downloaded onto the device ?

i have a question.. if we "suppose" that efi-x is too expensive or if the hardware it is not possible to acquire it in some countries?, and efi-x is a usb dongle, is there a way to "crack" a copy protection dongle?

Could we please wait until we know the prices?

We should better bet what it will cost. I'd estimate it to max 30USD...

Dont want to sound like a noob here but isnt there ad kinda well not very truthfull as in why do they say you can install on a regular pc but they clearly have a hardware compatability list so therefore is not what the ad says its not regular pc, Seems more like specific and why anyone would actually want to give them money is beyond me certainly buy leopard but this scam off a dongle no ta ill stay with the excellent dvds that are available that obviously do the same job or d oit better
Sarmu
I wonder if raid feature on those supported board will work, if so would the array only readable by osx or both osx and windows

They don't say, you can install it on every regular PC, do they?

Also... the fact, that it was tested with the boards mentioned on their website doesn't say, that it won't work with other boards, too. Though the possibility that it only works does not seem outrageously far-fetched either, if they are doing some voodoo depending on a board's firmware (and as we know, Gigabyte BIOS are all so slightly different from other manufacturer's). On the other hand, maybe it's just some kind of "hypervisor" booted straight via USB (PCI) and the like.
curlyboy
Might be an expensive way to find out tho if it works with your motherboard oh and you also notice they only mention core cpus also , as they say you pay you dough and take your chances

Agreed. Plenty of P5W DH Deluxe users out there! Also what about the Gigabyte GA-945GCMX-S2 That was a popular board for a while. Which I own one!

it will support your hardware if it was %98 compatble with your hackintosh build.

Oh... I missed this while writing my above post:

"EFiX Firmware Selector:
Simply select a new Firmware from the list when changing or upgrading your mainboard."

Sounds like it's somehow motherboard-specific, doesn't it? Not like you could have this USB thingy work on every motherboard. And I wonder, what the point of testing 8 (!) Gigabyte boards is - but not a single popular one from other manufacturers Asrock, Asus and the like` For instance, the Asrock Conroe seems pretty popular with OSx86, so it would seem like an obvious choice.

Could Gigabyte have a hand in this, wanting to push sales of their boards (after the ugly problems with Terabyte-Hard Drives)? biggrin.gif

How do we know that this is not a fishing expedition ?

Is there "product" ready to ship, or is this an elaborate research deal ?

I want to see a table full of these devices with a current newspaper rolleyes.gif

Beware of pre-orders !

But sometimes these kinds of things are only feasible with orders - even if this is legit. It may take some investment up front to take this to a reasonable "mass" production. I don't know for what sales or how many units they are aiming. But while you can cobble together a few cheap prototypes for testing, final production should supposedly involve a kind of set-up cost and decreasing variable costs per units. So it's economically reasonable, to produce a larger quantity in one production run. Basic economies of scale.

Question is, if they're willing to take that risk themselves - or even if they have the financial resources for a larger production run. And I wouldn't exactly assume them having a potent investor on board (if it isn't Gigabyte wink.gif ). Also, making a fancy website is one thing, selling these things is another thing, if they are violating some copyright. If you expect you could get in legal trouble, it is most likely after shipment of these things. So you better ship a larger first run in a short time, than stocking the devices.

(I am not implying that they actually do violate any copyright... but I also wouldn't be surprised if some court thinks so)

Thanks for replying so quickly! I am very disapointed with the motherboards and why no love for NVIDIA motherboards. I'm waiting until my 2 GTX280 Graphics Cards to be supported.

Sorry to hear that.

One thing to remember is that EFiX is not a magical device. If Apple has never been adapted a device in their products, the device cannot be supported even with the perfect emulation of EFiX due to the lack of proper kexts. (nVidia chipset motherboards nor nVidia GTXes are never adapted in Apple products.)

If you are gonna wait for EFiX support of GTX280, the waiting time is bounded by Apple's adaption of the graphics card (not by EFiX's support for the graphics card). I think you might be able to use GTX280 by a means of backward compatibility now anyway.

It sounds good but I’m still waiting for info about Efi-x for notebooks…

It seems that it just basically let’s you install Leopard from the original dvd and if you buy the “EFiX USB Deluxe / Sound” you won’t need to install any kexts. Am I right?

So if your motherboard isn’t supported, I guess I could install it anyway, but I’ll have to install the kexts as I’m doing with Kalyway now…. So aprt of the advantages as updates and things like that. Will be the performance better than Kalyway? will my computer work better with efi-x than with kalyway?

ps: sorry for my English, im still sleepy...

Yes and no depending on what you have on your laptop. If your laptop has all compatible components (I doubt it), you won't even need to buy EFiX's sound card.

As far as I see, EFiX device gets rid of the need for the following assuming your motherboard is supported by the device:
PC_EFI,
dsmos.kext,
modified AppleSMBIOS.kext,
modified AppleHDA.kext and ALCInject.kext or EFI string for audio (assuming audio CODEC is compaible),
Natit.kext or NVinject.kext or EFI string for graphics (assuming graphics card is compatible),
modified AppleACPIPlatform,
turn-off-all-cores trick.

In addition, it will make the following available, I believe:
temperature on processor and system,
battery indicator.

But then I don't see the point of all this fuzzy excitement on this device (now this credit goes to netkas). Well, that's just me. (All I am concerning now is with Snow Leopard's 64 bit kernel, I won't be able to use AppleAzaliaAudio.kext, which is a 32 bit driver, to turn on my ALC662. What on earth. I may stick to the 32 bit kernel version. It's not like I am gonna buy 4TB RAM.)
titooo
Cool. Thanks for the explanation, I undesrtand it perfectly now.

Waiting to see the features of efi-x for laptops... Hope they release some info soon...

If i go to buy a car, and the seller say to me...THIS CAR CAN GO UP EVERY HILL WITHOUT PROBLEMS...i repeat to you EVERY HILLS...

then i go to buy a car and i discover that this car can go only up hills under 600 feets... smile.gif

Do you not feel your self a bit cheated?

Is this a way to start a good commercial businness?

Honesty first... always.

When I go on the eFix website and try to view the pictures on the eFix for desktop PC's and then click on eFix USB 1 the pictures next to the eFix exclusive features are not viewable. A.k.a on Safari they have a question mark on the center of the picture. It could be just me or is this happening for everyone. I am only interested because I want to see the Interactive Boot Selector.

Thanks

It's not you. It's them. I cannot see the pictures with Internet Explorer on Vista either. Why don't you watch the video made by netkas? The pictures are not that different from the video, I think.

The pictures are not loading. This ain't browser specific since the wrong content type is being set for the JPG images. Basically the images are messed so no one can see them tongue.gif. Excellent for a new product smile.gif

And a little bit of more specific information about prices, comparision between system with kalyway, iatkos or leo4all and same system with efi-x. A finished website for example...

I also would like to see the efi-x creatoros posting here, but it seems they like to see us waiting...
curlyboy
This is really not to different from apple the difference with the device is that there is a little more choice in hardware selection but for everyone here who hasnt at least got at a core cpu whats the point ..... might be an expensive way to find out your up {censored} creek hahaha without a paddle biggrin.gif they specifically say you can install on a regular pc well for me a regular pc is one off the shelf not 1 custom built

I don't think they make people wait on purpose. They are simply busy finishing the device as a product or finding distributors over seas. After all, it is a small company with a less-than-professional-looking CEO.

Now, off the topic.
Here is a more interesting entertaining development: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=112109
(Finally some moderator deleted the linked thread. Thank you.)

Well, you guessed wrong. I don't assume anything about who's managing the website. I, however, think that the company is not professional enough as I implied in the previous post. And the following is my only assumption I made in the previous post: they are too small and unexperienced to do psychological warfare with their customers (Steve Jobs's favorite), i.e. making their customers wait in excitement on purpose, and they are still working on the release.

I respect Netkas and all the talented developers who made OS X on x86 a reality. Trying to make money by this talent seems a bit dangerous to me. Selling a real product and talking about "Apple labeled computers" seem a bit dangerous. If I were you and wanted money, I'd use my talents on another platform which was accepted both legal and ethical.

Have you completed the copyright and trademark processes BTW? Do it and contact Apple. You can have a lot of money in a lot shorter time if you ask me. They will buy the product from you and consider what they can do with it before or after buying. This is their OS at last...
Cybex
Any news on efi-x yet? There isn't much activity on the site at the moment, the release date is removed as well... Could it be delayed? Netkas, do you know more about this?
titooo
No news mate... We were told to wait until 23rd and know we must wait until we don't know when.
why they didn't upload any pictures and prizes? They don't have it yet??

I think the product won't start to be sold until 2 weeks at least...
