tungmeister
at last, i'm a update whore, i've been checking atleast twice a day , i'll report back once i can be bothered to restart lol.

I know a fix wasn't mentioned in the release notes for the new version, but for any Live owners, the distortion bug still remains.
newbmac
Will try tonight. Anyone report on the too much "highs" is fixed?
Oxtie
What the??? No one cared to give "E" those telemetry results??? Live users??? and then you want it to be fixed? yeah right! wink.gif
EDIT: for those who don't know much about OSX, don't mess up anything in your system and play safe...

is treble/bass issue fixed for everyone?

I just wanted to say Oxtie, you sir are a tiny golden GOD. I downloaded the driver, installed it, rebooted it and now I have audio that sounds good on my Audigy2 Value. My onboard ALC888 (Gigabyte GA-P35-D3SL R2.0) wasnt working. Plus I would have to get an optical/digital cable to switch from the Audigy2 to onboard via my Logitech Z680. But with this driver I dont have to do any of that stuff.

I'm listening to the new Cradle of Filth album and it sounds good in iTunes. It might be me but it seems when I seek through the audio its slightly louder before it settles down. Perhaps its an iTunes thing, some eq setting i dunno.

But either way this is an excellent driver especially considering it worked out of the box easily. No messy patching or anything. Thanks!

edit: yep, it was an itunes setting, the sound enhancer. Now its fine. Btw, any chance of global EQ support, like in XP? OSX doesnt do this but I love this feature.
ajacocks
Oxtie,

Thanks again for keeping us up to date on the status of kX. And thanks to Eugene for all the hard work!

I wasn't having any distortion issues, that I had noticed, but I played the .mp3 you uploaded, without any detectable problems.

One question, though. SPDIF output was a new feature that you mentioned for this release. I can't, however, find any docs on how to enable the output, provided by Creative's external dongle, on my Audigy2. Any advice, or pointers, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again!

Hi Oxtie,

thanks for the update. some feedback:

tried the new version (1.2b0) and system audio was gone... Switched back to 1.1b0.
but anyway, thanks for your efforts.
tungmeister
the new update doesn't work as well as 1.1b0 for me, there's loads of distortion and volume control doesn't work correctly in vlc, switching back to 1.1
EDIT: i gave the driver another go and corrected the vlc volume control issues, but now i'm having the problem of very frequent crashes, one every 10-20 mins, so i've been forced to revert to 1.1 again. system config is as shown in my sig.
MTZeon
Will test later when I get home smile.gif

I've managed to get good quality sound with 1.1b0 using the equalizer on iTunes in order to reduce the extreme treble present on the drivers. Will test now and see it it works out-of-box smile.gif
pandaBoi
I've just installed the latest version but no luck! Sound distortion becomes apparent after about 2 mins. sad.gif
Biovital
What about audio balance? My left ear doesnt hear as good as my right, and with headphones I must adjust audio balance to the left more in XP. OSX has this by default when using onboard, but theres no option to do this with these drivers. Can these be included in the next release? I understand the issue with global EQ, but l/r balance is pretty important. thanks!

edit: Well I think its causing hardlocks on my system. Was listening to itunes for a while, and all the sudden the system locked up. Audio kept skipping like a CD thats stuck or something. Total lock, had to hard reset. This also happened while watching a youtube video, and while messing around in GarageBand.

Does anyone have little more time? This MP3 (5mb) was made in a way that it boosts volume (internally). Dudes testing this should keep player volume to 100% while system volume to normal (hearable not loud). If there is a distortion in bass, there is a something not right! (on CT Win drivers these are fine at the moment without distortion)

What a gay music =)

No sound distort but your mp3 has to high speak and bad sound, look here

You have completely explored the driver? nothing new (Audio Midi app?) or elsewhere? smile.gif

I can't find anything in the Audio Midi app that will let me pick another output. The outputs selection menu in Audio Midi is greyed out with "Non-Interleaved Device" and "Source: Default" selected. Any suggestions?

Also, I, too, am seeing hard-locks with the 1.2b0 driver enabled. I don't get a crash dump, so not much I can report, but I can prevent them by picking a different sound card (onboard sound).

Thanks!

Hello,

I am getting system hard-locks too, when trying to play any mp3 with iTunes. Moreover, i get only 3 channels working when trying to Remap my speakers to 5.1, respectively only chanels 5, 6, and SW working and the strangest thing happening is, i can't hear any mp3 (Via Itunes) as the system locks instantly.

While browsing the net i stumbled upon similar problems that people are reporting over at official Mac forums about random system freezes with iTunes, it's being speculated that this is QT bug and current Apple suggestion is to Update to newest QT and iTunes 8.0.1 (holding my fingers crossed). Currently i'm downloading and may write again whats happening.

Asus P5W-DH Deluxe

hehehe sure is, it was made that way (to check if bass distortion starts after that point's end). I guess then its probably solved...

release notes also indicate "where applicable" maybe this is some sort of half compatiblity with card??? nevertheless, this should be reported Official Bug report  (but better if someone  else confirms it too)...

If you were able to hear music with 1.1b0 (the last stable release) then relation of freeze and iTunes is out of question here. I assume drivers still has problems and will take further evaluation (or Pizzas $s) lol

Big thanks to kX team.

I´m having distortion over time problem too, using a Live! card. I was trying to run Max/MSP 5 Runtime and when I activate the patch it shuts down, does anyone have a clue about this? could it be some MIDI problem?..
Great work with the driver!! Keep the good work!!

I'm assuming that you've already done the following:
1. The Channel testing (to make sure that sound comes out of all speakers),
2. You've checked cable's connections if they're connected properly,
3. You've tried previous build and had success, or Tried on XP and had success,
4. You've reported to the official bug report page (so that new releases are not the same) tongue.gif
5. ReInstalled OSX and tried clean install (as older uninstalltions may have failed???)
6. You've Checked that audio card is fully supported @ Compatibility page (see my signature)

On the Freeze issue, I guess I'll give you time to edit your response (till 2 days) so you report back if you're wrong... otherwise, your card will be under category of "not freezing"

Bah, got a freeze today but this time @ arround 6 mins. sad.gif And i cannot track what's happening as the system locksup and comes with a black notice informing me to restart my PC.

1. I'll check again when i get home tonight and will report back.
2. To do.
3. Didn't have much time to play with other builds.
4. No, I haven't ... Shall i do so? or wait a bit more so that i can try to track down the problem.
5. I'm on clean install iDeneb 10.5.4
6. My soundcard is listed as SB0350 [8880], i cannot find this number @ Compatibility page tho i see Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro as partialy supported. (My SB is Audigy 2 ZS Platinum with an External Drive)

If you've tried previous build, same problem existed, you should have reported earlier.

Can someone hear Play 5.1 Audio (Movie or AC3 type media), plug headphones, confirm that they're able to hear front stereo and not surrounded??? (an issue that existed in previous build for my sound card at least) 035x

Just updated to 1,2b on my Audigy 2 ZS SB0350 10K2 [e400] and sound is much better now, no more excess treble! biggrin.gif Great work Eugene, donation on the way ($41.79), you deserve it. Enjoy it and please, keep us updated with the best audio quality cards there is, since Creative doesn't support them, you do smile.gif

I've just tested 5.1 using DJ Tiesto - Elements of Life DVD concert and it sounds great!!! I've used VLC and checked if Dolby Surround and everything is fine!

Thank you so much for making these cards work on MacOSX, without you they would be useless.

I have installed 10.5.2 and this driver set for Creative. I have Sound Blaster 5.1 Live!, to be exact:
CODE
Creative EMU10K1 SB Live! Audio Processor

When I installed the driver the sounds looks somewhat, well not distorted as much as it is muffled. Its like it cant past cretin barrier. I played Mac OS X sounds, beside the click everything else, like mp3 in iTunes sounds very bad. Its like, I play the song and hear only the lower sounds but distorted.

I have reinstalled 10.5.2
derfwins
1.2b0 (BETA) worked like a charm on my SB audigy 2 SB0090. Thanks a lot for your hard work and dedication.

PS: I did have to restart the computer and plug it into a different PCI slot before the driver started working, just a heads up if it doesn't work for you, you might want to try that. On my friends Audigy 2 plat, it worked right out of the box without even restarting.

Awesome work guys!
Snowski
Holy smokes, I just tried the 1.1b0 since the latest release gave me kernel panics and I got 5.1 working which is a big plus because now I have only one more use for Windows which is playing games.

I have just tested between onboard (ALC889A) and Audigy and the quality difference is amazing. I have to say though I'm running straight out the Audigy to my 5400 speakers and line out from the onboard to line in 5400 speakers.
The sound has a lot more dynamics and punch.

Thx to all who made this possible cause to be honest I thought they could never pull something off like this.

Respect!

Update: One issue here that forces me into using the onboard audio again is the wake up from sleep without audio. If Eugene could get the power management working properly without having to set S1 as sleep mode this would be a keeper for sure.
FaitH
sorry that stupid question but still no audio input or mic yet? unsure.gif
great work btw... thumbsup_anim.gif

Watching some videos and got a kernel crash after about 1hr of video viewing
Snowski
Use 1.1b0 if you are using S1 as sleep mode. this driver works flawless for me with just slight clipping (distortion) in some apps but that is fixed by turning down the volume of the app.

Hi,
My system can't shut down propperly after installing sound drivers 1.2b0 on Kalyway 10.5.2
It just goes to sleep instead and all fans are still on. Have to manually shut it down with power button.
Any help there?

Another question...I how can I remove these drivers from system completely?
Thanks.

Included with the drivers you have a file uninstall. Just run it on the terminal smile.gif
Peles
Hmm...
Seems like shutdown problem there is caused by .kext file in extensions directory. Uninstall in terminal doesn't help and does not remove the file (if I'm not doing something wrong). If I manually remove .kext system reverts back to normal shutdown...
Any ideas about how to get the driver and shutdown working together?

Same problem as Peles My system can't shut down It just goes to sleep instead. Im using iDeneb 10.5.5 v1.3. If I uninstall the kext works again ok.

Hi there, i'm glad there are finaly drivers for SB cards rolleyes.gif

Got one question, is it possible to change the cutoff frequency (routing low frequencies to bass speaker only & mid-high to mediums) ?

Although the excess treble is fixed on 1.2b0, i too have the random kernel panics. I use S1 on ACPI for the record.

Ok, I've set the ACPI 2.0 to off, and so far so good. This is a random kernel panic, so i'll wait and see if anything comes up.

[EDIT] Been already an hour, and so far so good.
MTZeon
Yep, so far so good. I've got no kernel panic, with APCI 2.0 turned off.
Burly
My setup works great with ACPI turned off, but when I try to shut the system down it doesn't go down completely. OS X quits and then the system keeps running without displaying anything on the monitor.

Anybody have any ideas on how to solve this ? If I turn ACPI back on I get random kernel panics.
Riley Freeman
Hopefully E has enough info to work on the SBLive distortion bug too. It's the only thing keeping me in Windows.

Yes, but the difference is Creative is now releasing their source code with documentation. smile.gif

Hi all !

I'm running a hackintosh based on kalyway updated to Leopard 10.5.5.
My card is an Audigy 2 ZS. I've installed the drivers 1.2b0 but i can see just this in the dmesg:

--------
kXAudioDevice[0x4364000]::init: --- driver start-up, version 1.2b0
kXAudioDevice[0x4364000]::initHardware(0x38fa480)
kXAudioDevice[0x4364000]::free()
kXAudioDevice[0x4364000]::free_all() - iKX interface already closed
--------

And this is the output from the utility:
--------

Previously, to use my onboard realtek audio card ( asus p5b mobo) I've used Azalia drivers modifing the plist file with the right VID and it's worked fine. Now I've disabled the onboard audio and i'm trying to use the Audigy...

Can anyone that has an Audigy 2 ZS help me a little bit with the 1.20b drivers ?

I've Audigy 2 ZS however I never got such error, infact I've not seen anyone else with A2ZS reporting such error earlier. I see that you've already posted to BUG report page so, the best response you should expect is only from "E" smile.gif Other then this, can you provide some more details @ DriverHeaven thread...
1. Earlier versions were working on your system? (have you tried earlier versions? see my signature for download links)
2. Disabled and Uninstalled OnBoard sound cards??? (Tried CleanInstall?)
3. "BUS Error", did you try disabling various other devices from BIOS which can conflicts with A2ZS? (ACPI too? to stop freezing?)
4. Your sound works on XP/Vist???? (and with kX drivers for Windows???)
5. Have you installed all ICHx and BUS related stuff in OSX setup? (Have you read first page properly?)

When I say first page, NOT just first post! biggrin.gif Specially READ the post made by Eugene (3rd or 4th post maybe), when he talks about recognising BUS, what does he mean? is this related to you in anyway? No if you're not having notebook but then which files are responsible to help your A2Zs recognised by OSX? ask youself smile.gif

Hi Oxtie,

thanks for the answer.

1) I've tried 1.1 with the same results.
2) What do you mean with a CleanInstall ? Reinstalling mac os x ? If you mean this, I didn't tried but I didn't installed anything, the Azalia drivers was already installed on my system...
3) I'll try...
4) for sure ! I have the creative drivers and I'm using it daily...
5) I'll look for this...

I'll keep you informed smile.gif

Thanks...

UPDATE:

Hi Oxtie,

I've tried disabling ACPI APIC support but macosx won't boot... ACPI 2.0 support is always disabled.

I didn't find any ICHx and BUS stuff on this forum or driversheaven...am I missing something ?

QUOTE (Oxtie @ Nov 8 2008, 09:08 PM) *
I don't know much about kalyway however, I've loved "JaS Client Server 10.5.4" beautiful build! When setup starts, There is a button "Customize" etc (depending on distro) and you'll see many options (Select the "Intel-ICHx" chipset. If you're using IDE disks choose "AppleIntelPIIXATA" under plugins and "Intel ICH and PIIX Controller" under device identification.), StageXNU is also kewl cool smile.gif

EDIT: Also, when you're in those setup options, you should uncheck Azalia (just to avoid conflicts). These are for Intel CPUs for AMD I'm not sure... (don't have it). BTW, clean install is yes ReInstall (with format where no old data exist to conflict with new installation)

EDIT2: Another question popped in my head, If you've updated to 10.5.5, did you try to install these drivers in 10.5.4 or below? meaning before upgrading? (you never know what created this issue of yours but in general its first of it's kind smile.gif )

I've installed the drivers just on 10.5.5 because I found that I can't hear anything smile.gif

I've installed also "lspci" and this is the output:

----
05:02.0 Class ffff: Creative Labs SB Audigy (rev ff)
05:02.2 Class ffff: Creative Labs SB Audigy FireWire Port (rev ff)
----

So the pci bus seems readable....

I don't know... is there any setting in the kX drivers to modify ?
raidolo
So do you think I had to remove Azalia dirvers ?

Now I've enabled the onboard sound with Azalia.... I'll test again the Audigy...

Thanks.
