Hello!
I've bought a Power Mac G5 Quad, because it was relative cheep and has still a lot of power.
Now I'm thinking about installing a new and more powerful Graphics Card, but I'm not sure if the a EFI string in the boot.plist will work?
I know that the ROM used for the Power Macs is different to the one used in newer Intel Macs.
Thats the reason why, for example, a 8800GT made for the Mac Pro, won't work. But is it possible to enable QE/CI with a EFI string?
If this works, I could buy a normal Graphics Card and enable it the same way, like in my Hachintosh, right?

Thanks for reply!

Unfortunately just putting in a pc graphics card will not work. Due to the way the card is initialized. For u to get a pc graphics card to work in a true mac you would have to flash the card with a mac rom/bios. check this website out for info about flashing pc cards to mac

I've already found out, that the new Intel Macs are using a EFI ROM, but the older PPC Macs, linke my G5, used a Open Firmware ROM.
So I now know that the best graphics card witch I can use is a Quadro FX 4500 or a flashed 7800GTX, but I haven't found the right ROM for the 7800GTX 256MB, because the Quadro has 512MB like some 7800GTX, but they are hard to get and that's why I've bought a 7800GTX 256MB.

Maybe someone knows a page, were I can get the right ROM.
Here are a lot of ROMs, but there is non for the 7800GTX 256MB: http://themacelite.wikidot.com/wikidownloads2

you will have to use the 7800gt rom and mod the rom for the correct clock speeds

use hexedit

"theMacElite" wow, so that's where StrangeDogs went...

I used to be a member of that old site, and my G4 PowerMac is still running the flashed 9800Pro AGP card that their forum helped me create. And I also owe them thanks for pointing me here, as their board was the first place I heard of a "hackintosh" on a thread called "Hackintosh faster than a G5 ?!?" back in the deadmoo days...
