I've never done a hackintosh. I just bought a netbook as a gift for my girlfriend. I chose it because it's her favorite color, has an 11.6" 1366x768 screen and has a dual-core celeron with 2gb of RAM for the same price as all the Atom/10.1" 1024x600/1gb netbooks as well as a decent graphics chipset (GMA 4500MHD).
I did do research beforehand, and saw people talking about getting Mac OS X to work on laptops with GMA 4500MHD. However, since I've since a Windows guy, I didn't know about Quartz Extreme or whatever it is. It seems like there's a great hackintoshing community but it also seems like there's not a lot of progress with getting OS X support for 4500MHDs besides some people getting native res.
I'm willing to do whatever I can to get it working, i.e. muck around with "kexts" which I assume are analogous to drivers/infs. I just want it to work well for her after I'm done.
So, my question is should I return it and get a different one? What are other 4500MHD owners' OS X experiences? Can you watch non-flash video? If you had the choice, would you get a system with a different graphics adapter? I guess the other option would be an HP Mini 311. Should I get that, or just forget it and get a 10.1" netbook? I previously looked at a Toshiba NB205.
