Full Version: Sigmatel STAC9271D on an Intel DP35DP mobo

I've tried Taruga's AppleHDA patcher v1.16 but it doesn't work. (Got the linux code dump here).

I found other threads here that said I might have to upgrade the kernel. Tried 10.4.8 with Semthex's 8.8.1. and it didn't work. Upgraded to 10.4.9 with Semthex's Nebukanezzar 8.9.1 and no success with Taruga's patcher. Replaced the kernel with Netkas' 8.9.1, still no audio.

I peeked inside AppleHDA.kext and it was indeed patched but both System Profiler and Preference Pane doesn't detect the sound card.

Does anyone have any success with this mobo?

Cheers.
MadisonG
I too hve this same mobo and the same issues with the sound. I hope that there is a solution soon.

I cannot boot after clean install on the same mobo DP35DP, with XxX 10.4.10. I use USB DVD rom for setup and 250GB Hitachi SATA disk for Mac OS. Only one partition created with disk utility. Can you tell me what "distribution" do you install, and a brief explanation of you install process.

tnx

Core 2 Duo 2.66 4M, Motherboard DP35DP, Nvidia 8500GT, 2 GB Corsair, DVD Pioneer 112 wired External via USB, SATA 250 Hitachi, Clean Install without anything
madnoh
I used the JaS 10.4.8 DVD, then upgraded 10.4.9 by Ahmed Moewaya's method, then upgraded to 10.4.10 with Koolkal's updater.

By the way, looking at your specs I'd say your graphics card is the problem. The 8500GT as far as I know is not compatible for hackitoshes. A 7 series with 256mb VRAM is your best bet. There's a lively thread about getting the 8800 GTS and GTX to work, but there are mixed results.

UPDATE 2nd March 2008: 8500GT cards are compatible for hackintoshes as of December 2007. Kindly disregard this OLD, OUTDATED reply.

I used the "Stac9271D 0x83847627 for testing" from the link above and now I have sound out! Woohoo!

Have not tested Line In or Mic yet as it doesn't matter much to me. smile.gif Thanks to everyone for the heads up.

Dear sir,

Please note that the reply was made in October 2007. I'm sure that we are all aware that the solution for G80 and G92 cards was made available in December. I subscribe to netkas' blog. Thank you and have a happy new year.

omg dude, my sincerest apologies.(how the hell do i write that word)
i didnt realise the timeline, im verry sorry

while theres still someone here responding,
i have the
STAC9271D Chip
when i install the AppleHDA driver for it using the AppleHDA topic, i can only get optical out ?, the other lines are not on ?, and i do not use optical, is there a way to tell the driver to use the line out ? (no in prefpane theres nothing to set (besides internal speakers)
Shanems3
i have the stac9271d in my pc, dg965wh, the kext for testing do not work for me.. anyother ideas?

edit --- had a blonde moment, forgot i disabled audio in bios to use usb audio... enabled it with tested kext and works FINE!!!!!
Alexandre Fuchs
My Sound Card seems to be working, but only in optical out.
Anyone knows a way to work in other outputs?

Thanks!
Mil32T
I Have everything else on this motherboard working perfectly but sound, using the test kexts from the link above has only allowed me to get optical output. I do not use optical output, has anyone found a way to get Line Out working on this chipset? (Running Leo 10.5.1)
madnoh
I'm not sure as to why some of you can only connect using optical output. I have both internal speakers and digital output showing in my Sound Preference pane.

I'm quite sure I didn't do anything out of the ordinary to get sound out. Just changed permissions and deleted kext caches in the extensions folder.

BTW, I have not tested mic and line inputs yet as I don't have a mic.

I have sound coming out from my 10.4.10, 10.4.11, 10.5.1 (Kalyway) and 10.5.2.
Mil32T
Thats what my sound settings looks like also, but it's silent. This may sound stupid, but what colour jack did you use? (what colour plug are your speakers plugged into), because technically it's "working" but it's silent... =/
madnoh
Green jack at both the front and back works for me.

I'm just guessing here, but there's a setting in the BIOS to enable both front and back audio jacks. Perhaps you might have missed it?
Mil32T
Nope, both enabled, hummm... Going to try a clean kalyway install, and just install the kexts from STAC9271D_0x83847627_testing, did you use kexthelper, or install them manually?
madnoh
I installed manually.

Just to cover my bases, I'll elaborate.

Copied the AppleHDA.kext and ALCinject.kext files to the /System/Library/Extensions folder, then authenticated. Then opened up terminal and did repair permissions:

CODE
sudo chmod -R 755 AppleHDA.kext
sudo chown -R root:wheel AppleHDA.kext
sudo chmod -R 755 ALCinject.kext
sudo chown -R root:wheel ALCinject.kext

Removed kext caches:

CODE
sudo rm -f /System/Library/Extensions.mkext
sudo rm -f /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache

and I repaired permissions again via Disk Utility (just being anal) and rebooted.

I did the same on all Tiger and Leopard systems I installed and they were all okay.

BTW I never tried the Optical Output either, I just have normal cheap ass speakers smile.gif.
Mil32T
Still not working even after a clean install, but I notice that I am getting that little "blip" noise in my headphones that you hear when your soundcard initialises. So it's being detected and started, and shows up in settings and profiler. But there is no sound. Very Strange.

It just occurred to be that I am running the latest BIOS for this motherboard (released Jan 08), so maybe that has something to do with it, I dunno. Frankly I give up, this thread has thousands of views, and there is dozens of posts around about issues with 9271, it works for some and not others, seemingly randomly. Sigh... whatever...
Mil32T
Update, changing the output format in MIDI setup causes the speakers/headphones to 'click', the sound comes on, but then dies again 1-3 seconds later... Don't think it's a driver issue.

Other than that, I'm out of ideas.
madnoh
Maybe the BIOS might have something to do with it. I got my mobo last July (I think) and never felt the need to update the BIOS. And it doesn't show in my System Profiler.

Anyway, your Audio MIDI setup is similar to mine except my format is 2ch-24bit. I doubt that will change anything, but what the heck, just give that a try LOL! (I'm out of ideas, too).

If you really want sound, you could get a cheap, unbranded, made in China USB audio adapters. I used that a temporary workaround before this. It was about USD4 and surprisingly it worked right out of the box on all platforms (Vista and Ubuntu, too) without drivers. One red jack for Mic, one green jack for speakers so don't expect the greatest sound quality.
Mil32T
Talk of the profiler made me go and check that again, and I notice that the audio no longer shows there, and just has 'no built in audio' (though I have volume controls etc). Anyone know how I would go about generating (or even writing by hand) a CODEC config for taruga's macHDA patcher?
MadisonG
Still nothing working for me. I can see built-in audio and digital now but now sound yet. Looks like the best this driver will do is stereo so for now I am sticking with my sound blaster.
Mil32T
Alright, I booted into my linux install this morning and grabbed a dump for this HDA CODEC, and I noticed that it's not detected as codec0 but rather codec2 (and there is no other cards)... shrug... had to do cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#2 > /home/ubuntu/Desktop/codec_dump1.txt.

Anyways...

Here is the dump, if some of the other people having issues would try it, thatwould be great, since I have work now.

EDIT: Yes, they are different, I just compared my dump to one from some of the other threads (I'll upload as codec_2.txt) and the subsystem ID is different, so I can only guess that newer DP35DP boards have slightly different address areas.

NEW: Subsystem Id: 0x80863001
OLD: Subsystem Id: 0x80862504

NEW: Amp-Out vals: [0x66 0x66]
OLD: Amp-Out vals: [0xff 0xff]

NEW: Address: 2
OLD: Address: 1

So there ya go.
Mil32T
UPDATE: Got a little further... I manually inserted the paths from a HDA patched with my dump into the appleHDA.kext for the old revisions that is in that zip file thats floating around. And now my speakers initialise for a split second, then the SPDIF light comes on and I lose sound again, only for the SPDIF to go off again...get sound for 1sec...then it goes on again and I'm back to nothing... Could really use some help from someone who knows more than me about this stuff...sigh...even being pointed to some documentation on what the other values in appleHDA.kext's info.plist would help... desperate here...

Edited kext in case of the extremely unlikely event that someone decides to help.

Update (20th Feb 08): I found that STAC9271D 0x83847627 for testing by Taruga works for line out for the front and back ports. Mil23T discovered that the newer BIOS for this board screws up the sound settings. So, for those with the newer BIOS update either can flash back their BIOS to the older one or hope for Taruga to make changes to his drivers.

If anyone could confirm that all the other jacks work, like Mic and Optical out, that would be much appreciated.

PS: I tried to edit my first post but after clicking the Complete Edit button, it just hangs forever.
Mil32T
Both optical and Mic are working with the above kexts (borrowed some SPDIF speakers), as well as line out standard BP/FP. If we could find a network driver everything would be working natively (I might have a look at some kexts later for that, though USB adapters work fine).

And yeah, the 301 bios breaks sound, even if you change the pins/path in the kext to the correct ones for the new bios. Stay with 263.

I still can't get Time Machine working (Volume not found), or IDE, but I don't use either so it's a minor issue. And I must mention, OSX is FAST on this board, and I mean really f&^%ing fast.
MadisonG
It is fast so long as you stay away from 4gb of ram
Mil32T
Just attaching the kext to fix the Time Machine errors, since I mentioned it.
EDIT: And the working BIOS Link

Using NVInstallerV.33.pkg

I have a sony vaio FZ21s with nvidia 8600M GS, after installation i reboot and see the apple with gray background, after this i get a black screen so can't see nothing.

So, I reboot with -s and delete NV* in Extensions then i can see Leopard with VESA (no QE)

Can any one let me know how should i install my nvidia?
Thank you.

I just want to confirm that the latest BIOS Update 0413 [DPP3510J.86A ] doesn't break the sound settings for the Taruga patch. I can't say if the MIC, LINE IN or OPTICAL OUT works as I don't have anything to test it with. Stereo speakers are fine.

i hate to be a pain, but im looking at this mobo and want to know if mic works. You can actually use a pair of ear buds as a mic, just plu it in and scream into them (they dont pick up a ton of sound) then amplify it in audacity or something and see if you can hear yourself. I knows its a hassle, but i may want to record audio on my new rig. Thanks!

No but I just installed LEO4ALL V3 Leopard patched for Intel and it has the option for the right audio for the DP35DP. Still it doesn't support the LAN but I used a cheap $11 card for that and the realtek drivers on the LEO4ALL DVD.
It is very cool, I'm running all the applications without a single problem I have a Quad Core CPU and 8GB of memory all the RAM is seen correctly USB,SATA,1394,Audio work fine. Let's see tonight how Parallels runs but I have no doubt it will do OK.

hey italiang. hope u still got time to reply on this.

is the audio (sigmatel stac9271d) onboard intel dp35dp really at its full function (including line-in/mic working) w/ the driver provided by the leo4all dvd installer? if it does, will u kindly extract (using pacifist) just that particular kext for the audio and share it?

It is a generic realtek that I bought at Fry's. If you go in one of these stores and look for a cheap 1Gbit LAN with a Realtek chip that's the one. I can't give you a brand because 1) I don't have the box anymore, 2) they use funny brands but they all look the same.
In any case, it was very similar to the following:

I would say sigmatel cards and osx86 is an unreliable mix. Even if you get this card to work sooner or later your card is going to blow, I't has happened with 2 different mobos D945GNTLR (sigmatel 9223) and this one. It happens both cards have the same architecture.

I must say I make pretty heavy use of my pc (I keep it on for almost weeks) so if your use is light you may not notice this soon. This is not a voltage peak issue since I have peak suppressors and a voltage corrector it happens just the same. I'm going for another mobo or maybe the same but running with ubuntu.

I have just opened my chassis to notice that the front audio cable heats abnormally so, when I disconnected the whole front panel I found out the connector is completely burnt and immediately after I disconnected this element, audio went back. I am pretty sure the connection was right but I can't tell now since I pulled the cable too fast. So I am still not sure this was a matter of a bad connection or something related to the front audio driver. Have you guys got front audio working? I haven't, so if you do this may indicate a bad connection if not probably this would eventually happen anyway.
Shaverdoff Gerasim
Hello guys!

please answer if any body has made working input on that audiochip? Which kext do you use with it?
