So I installed the kexts using Kext Helper b7. Seemed to work alright. Now when I load Leopard it freezes at the gray load screen. Rebooting fixes the problem. Dunno why the 2nd load works but freezes at 1st. Anyway it still isn't recognizing the 3945 as Airport. The bluetooth icon shows up, (I think it always has.) But no airport. I try the sudo kextload -t and get this error: kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/VoodooIntel3945.kext has problems:

Missing dependencies:

{

"com.apple.iokit.IO80211Family" =

"A valid compatible version of this dependency cannot be found"

"org.voodoo.wireless" =

"This dependency has dependencies that cannot be resolved"

}

Solution?

Leo or snow leo? Installed with kext utility and worked for me.
Desimon
 That's exactly the same problem I'm having...
cmcd14
Leo. 10.5.2
Desimon
I reinstalled IO80211Family.kext and I got a message which I think said it did recognize AirPort, but soon after this the computer froze and I had to restart and now it's not recognizing the hardware once again.

EDIT:

I ran sudo kextload -t /System/Library/Extensions/VoodooIntel3945.kext again and now the problems are gone. Still not recognizing, though. I'll try to restart. If you want to try this yourself here's the file I downloaded: http://www.mediafire.com/?9widdksfewe

EDIT 2:

It recognizes it now, but whenever I open network preferences the computer freezes. Any help on this matter?

Can you please post the contents of /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/Info.plist ?

You have an old version of this kext, and the 3945 driver depends on the newest version. It might be possible to make it work by changing the dependency version in 3945 driver once we know which version you have.

Reinstalling the IO80211 Family kext did the trick. Got it to recognize my card and am using the wifi as I type!!! Though the connection is painstakingly slow. But for first version, am excited for updates in speed as well as WEP/WPA/WPA2

Yes it's a bug in the kext during scanning.

Thanks... Is there any way I can make it work, then?

No, I will find and fix it over the weekend or on Monday.

Ok, thank you very much for the help. I'm eager to try it again once it's fixed.
Amarti
OK, I've got SnowLeopard 10.6.0 on Acer Aspire 5920G
The kext failed to load with the following message:
CODE
Failed to load /System/Library/Extensions/VoodooIntel3945.kext - (libkern/kext) dependency load failed.

Load org.voodoo.wireless.hal.Intel3945 failed; removing personalities.

[/size]

[size="2"]I've installed those kexts using kext utility in this order: WirelessCipher.kext, Wireless.kext, and then VoodooIntel3945.kext;

I've checked that adapter was turned on;

I'm currently using 32 bit mode;

Will be glad to get some help here, and willing to be a beta tester on Snow Leopard anyway.
OSX86GURU
@Amarti, According to merc snow leopard is not supported at the moment. Possibly it might work with the 10.5.8 IO80211.bundle but I doubt it.

Hey, I installed the prototype ktext, and the IO80211Family.kext. I go to airport icon, try to connect, and all it does is turn off the airport. Is there a fix for this, or is this a known error?
OSX86GURU
This has happened to me as well, I seem to remember mercury saying that it does this on firmware error. If this is the case maybe a restart might help as it is my understanding that on boot the driver clears and reuploads the firmware. Either way you should send your logs to voodoo@mercurysquad.com following the procedure set out here: http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=175707332907

it doesn't shut off the airport when I try to connect it just fails. . .

EDIT:
after fussing with it for a bit I was able to connect to the wifi across the street,
I just had to keep turning the switch off and on and do likewise with the airport icon and it eventually connected with the wifi light on!

and then mine. . .

and the little wifi lights up when it is connected:

Anyone tried the driver on a 4965AGN ?

Not by the sounds of thing but you could be the first! Chance of it working though are probably slim to none. Nonetheless post results if you do try.
cmcd14
It will not work. These kexts are for the 3945 specifically. Though I believe 4965 is next on the list of attempting to code. After the 3945 is finished of course. With tx, WEP/WPA, still left to be coded, 4965 is months down the road.

anu updates on this? still experiencing KP when turning on wifi. i hope merc will release a patched version soon smile.gif hopes are up. thanks to mercurysquad. hehe

you need to try installing this: IO80211Family.kext.zip

i've already tried installing that but still experiencing KP. sad.gif

what version of leopard are you running?
bentenuebe
iatkos v7 10.5.7
OSX86GURU
@benetube merc has said that the kp is a known problem and presumably he is working on a fix. So if you've already tried changing out the io80211 kext your best bet is probably just to wait for the beta release. In the meantime you could send merc your logs by email if you want to contribute.
bentenuebe
yes i've already sent a picture of the KP. thanks. smile.gif

I finally got it to work on mine. I found out that part of my problem was that I was running 10.5.2 instead of 10.5.8. Now it connects, but I agree with everyone else it is just a bit slow. Hopefully the beta will fix this.

I need VoodooWireless.kext . Could someone share it, pls? =)

This thread was extremely helpful. I'm a big newb and I've read many times the Intel 3945 and the OS X won't ever blend. Well, MercurySquad's really doing an impressive job then.

Using iAtkos v7 10.5.7, downloading the kexts from Project Camphor (VoodooWireless, VoodooWirelessCipher and careful to use the fixed version of Voodoo3945, which won't PANIC like the other one did here), I managed to ALMOST connect on wifi. smile.gif IO80211Family wasn't needed.

It recognizes the new interface, turns the Airport on, it even finds the networks *sometimes* (requires turning wifi card and Airport on and off many times). But if I try to connect, it either fails or timeouts in less than a second. It'll also lose the network if it tries to connect and fails (always fails). It just says "Connection failed" if it was a network it had already detected or "Connection timeout" if I'm inputting it manually.

I don't know, perhaps I wasn't supposed to be using it with secure networks? I read somewhere the password thing is not coded yet. I don't have non-secure network here to try.
