Just tried this on 10.4.10 (mac.nub.1) for a motherboard integrated cmi8738 and it works.
There was no need to compile from source (I couldn't have done it, anyway, since I don't have xcode). Just copied the kext to /System/Library/Extensions, run those commands and loaded it. I have only stereo output (no mic), but that's all I need.

Thanks Blagec for the file and thanks coccolino_dbro to try it in 10.4.10. I have sound with this file and method in 10.4.9 and 10.4.10 (without recompiled).
I use a PCI 5.1 ch card with CMI8738 (the one w/2 outputs).

OSX 10.4.7 + CMI8738 PCI install download kext

22com_CMI8738AudioEngine is not compatible with its superclass, 13IOAudioEngine superclass changed?

I just recompiled this old driver from Dogbert for 10.5.3, no idea if it still works.

It's for 8738/8768 cards, maybe some other models work too.

Hi, i'm totally new to Mac. I have installed Kalyway perfectly, the only problem is that my sound isn't working. I downloaded this driver and put the kext file in my System/Library/Extensions directory. How do i have to run the install.sh file? If i copy it's content and paste it into Terminal it doesn't work. Can anybody help me?

Just use Kext Helper, it's in the "kool softs" folder in applications, assuming you installed the extras. That should do it for you.

Hey thanks! This is working great on 10.5.3 with a Turtle Beach Riviera PCI card! Ignored the installer script and just dropped it on kext helper.

Works nicely with my HT Striker 7.1 card (CMI8770) on 10.5.4.

I'm using the SPDIF coax out but only getting 2 channels.

works perfect on 10.5.4 and Terratec Aureon 5.1 Fun PCI (8738)

I would like to see some microphone input on this card as well, would it be too difficult? If I looked at a driver with microphone input could I just adapt it to this one?

Sound exists, but microphone so does not work. Very it's a pity which Skype still remains by many inaccessible using Mac OS

I've installed the 10.5 version on my system with a ECS 945GCT-M/1333 mobo (IDT audio not working/disabled).

Anyways the system seems to work great, but... on a cold start-up the network does not work, and when I watch youtube in full screen some times when I go back into regular mode there is a kernel panic and the system asks me to push the reset button...

Anyways any help would be great in this issue. Oh by the way I used kext helper to install Maybe there is something more I need to do?

im using kalyway 10.5.2 and a genius 5.1 cmi8738 and this last kext worked great. i used kext helper and rebooted and it worked like a charm.
thanks a lot man, now i have decent sound on my hackintosh, no more usb speakers....

Alright I tried a different sound-card. This time I used a CMI8738/PCI-6CH chip instead of the CMI8738/PCI-SX chip. It seems to not have any problems from a cold boot now. Not ethernet connection issues.

This driver CM8738 is loaded correctly on SiS 70121039 AMD SSE2 leo4all v4.1 leopard 10.5.4 kernel Toh 9.2.0 but there is NO SOUND !

I have entered my device id in the info.plist of the driver package but still NO JOY !

Any ideas ?

I've also got JaS 10.5.4 and I've given up on my on board sound (ALC860 on an Intel 915 mobo) and fitted a Cmi8738 based PCI card, but I can't see exactly how to install this kext. The install.sh file seems to be something to do with it, but dragging this into terminal just throws up a lot of "no such file or directory" errors.

I'm a newbie, please help. I managed to load a kext for the onboard video, but that came with precise instructions...

and do all the inputs and outputs work, or just stereo out?

This kext works for 2ch sound .
didn't show up in the about this mac menu
and something strange

there will be a pausing sound when the system is on for like 15 - 20 mins

like . tick tick tick tick tick tick like a skiping track . sound still work tho just have the tick tick tick sound . very loud too . and forever until i restart .. is this only me ?

Hi,

I installed Krazubu's kext on 10.5.6. It seems to load (kextstat shows it, kextunload does not work) but I don't get sound and it's also not listed in the system information screen. I got a Terratec Aureon 5.1 PCI.

Could it be a problem with 10.5.6? How could I debug further? I do net get any error messages on bootup / in dmesg.

Thanks Krazubu for the kext. I have been trying to get my onboard adi 198x to work after getting my cmedia8738 pci card working (with so far what seems to be output only). Somehow I managed to mess up my drivers and instead of sound from my speakers I got nasty clicks of slight distortion that seemed troubling. Replacing my drivers with your posted kext put that trouble away !

Now finding a solution to my onboard sound is the next step for me.

Thank you, works great (audio out on headphones at least) on 10.5.6 iDeneb with c-media cmi8768. Didn't tested the rest functions yet.
