I have cmedia cmi 8738. I see that a lot of people are trying to get the mic working but unsuccessful. So i'll be happy if someone recommend cheap usb audio card that works well with mac os x. I don't need anything special just cheap way to use my mic for audio conversations on skype.

Get a cheap USB sound card, or one of those USB skype headsets with a microphone.

Pretty much. You can check if it has Mac compatibility on the packaging. The iMic from Griffin definitely works, but it's a little pricey.
As far as I've seen on this forum, all the cheap USB sound dongles work!
