dreadlocks
I picked up a pair of Logitech USB travel speakers from MicroCenter last night for $15 (on sale), sadly they have no inputs but work well for output.. Its Cheap w/Built in Sound card, sound quality is much better than expected from something so cheap.

This has been covered to death before, and the situation hasn't changed noticeably singe 10.4.1: pretty much all cheap usb sound "cards/dongles" work with os x with no extra drivers.. so far all the ones I have seen have been based on the same cmedia chip.
