Could this source code be of any use in making a driver for OSx86??

(I realize Linux and Osx86 are very different unixes)
PRGUY85
I was about to post the same thing. It would be great to be able to use my X-FI in Mac. If they could also get external modules to work, I would delete Win XP for good.

That's great!!!!!!!!!!!

It's been too long that the X-Fi hasn't been compatible with OSx86. One more piece of hardware that people really want to work, work... Eventually...

Somehow I think it won't be for a long time. Save yourself some energy and buy an Audigy 2 card smile.gif

Is there anybody working on a driver?
Mattrixed
we can but pray!
i have a xfi extreme gamer and would love for this to work under MAC even if was just stereo analogue output and full digital output would be awesome. oh why not have line in/mic working as well biggrin.gif

i can't belive there ar so many people who has X-fi sound cards and we don't have any kext for it

if we ar so many we could donate to KX Team or any good developer

i hope this post will be read by someone capable of doing this

if Eugene want, it can actually happen (pm with bribe tongue.gif). The way i see, E is probably busy in many projects and there has to be a very good reason for him to start working on X-Fi biggrin.gif

I´m on this one.. Me for X-Fi. Bought one today, but no Mac-support, and ALC885 and ADI1988B doesnt work for me either. CRAP!

Why I didn't learn C...
If I could, I would write a driver by my self, but I don't have any clue of how it's done...

BTW, the X-Fi audio controller is getting quite popular now, it even comes bundled on some top of the line motherboards. And Creative already launched the PCIe versions of their cards, so I really hope someone talented writes a driver for it...
Kludge420
Too little too late. I will NEVER buy a Creative Labs product EVER again

All because they attacked a kid for making a driver that worked with Vista when they claimed it wasn't possible... but you could buy their new hardware and it would work... if you also bought their crappy software update too!

So no more Creative (or E-Mu) products for me ever again.
680i-osx
Yeah, unfortunately their politics never benefit the end user, and that's a real shame!
But if someone make a driver for my XtremeGamer or for any of the newer PCIe X-Fi cards, I would still keep my card or even buy a newer X-Fi card... All I need is a quality analog output from my hackintosh.

Let's keep the hope for a driver...
lastowl
possible just use another similar card and patch the different from the bus points etc. but it would take too long for single developer would a good team
680i-osx
I think trying to port the drivers from another platform should be the way to go...
SU182
So, has there been any progress yet?
Oxtie
To be honest, only those guys who have made alternate drivers (someone like Eugene, but not exactly him) can make it work. I had this card Audigy2ZS from creative and found this guy who knew it thoroughly likewise, you guys should be doing the same thing (searching for a guy(s) known to have made drivers for other OS who knows X-Fi aka EMU20K series and politely asking him/her/them to get interested in this world) rather then waiting for someone to land from sky and make drivers for you tongue.gif

If any of you find such person, spread it here and go forward as whole...

COME ON!!! THe X-Fi sounds so much better than the Audigy. I have both but I choose Windows just because it comes with the X-Fi drivers and just sounds SOOOOOO MUCH BETTER.

I would like to add my voice to those interested in X-Fi drivers. I have everything working great in my Hackintosh now (even a Radeon 4870) but I had to use onboard sound instead of my X-Fi. Not ideal sad.gif

Good luck to whoever takes up the challenge.

I think it's just glitchyness with the Kext. Often I'll boot into OS X and have to reboot because I wont have analog sound or nothing will be detected at all, but after I restart everything will be working well.

I'm just happy to have my X-Fi working at all, but if anyone has any ideas to resolve this, or get the mic jack working, I'd be glad to try them out. The more stuff we can get working on the X-Fi the better, since it would open up Hackintoshers to what is probably the most common card on the market.

EDIT: Ok, I found out what makes the difference for me at least. Restarting the computer I'll get sound next boot, but if I start up from a completely powered down state it wont see the X-Fi for some reason. In fact, nothing comes up in the system logs about the VoodooHDA Kext from a cold boot at all. The same thing happens if I tell it to restart, but cut the power right after it restarts to simulate a shut down, so I'm somewhat inclined to believe this may be hardware specfic for me.

enb14: If you want, try booting a few times from an off state and then try restarting a few times and see if that makes any consistant difference in what you get.

I disabled my onboard ALC888 and install this driver, but nothing happened.

Is it PCI-E or PCI?

Also, I found out what was causing my X-Fi to only show up on reboot. For some reason, my computer doesn't assign an IRQ to one of the PCI-E bridges on cold boot, but does on a warm boot (restart).

I did that the voodohda driver seems to works some times and other times doesn't

I only got 2 speakers with analog output

fortunatelly for my I bought an maya 44e PCIe (same as my X-Fi titanium fatal1ty)

so now no more needing for AppleHDA for now, maybe with snow leopard.

I can't get my pci xtreme music x-fi working !

I guess you guys have a PCIE card, but i have a PCI.

Can you help me ? sad.gif

I think that PCI-E only works, not PCI. I have a PCI Xtreme Gamer that doesn't work either. With VoodooHDA all I get in the sound panel is "digital out" that doesn't actually work. Even if I could get 2 speaker analog working (I only have a 2.1 setup) then I'd be over the moon. Anyone have any ideas?

I have the same problem as you with a PCI X-Fi XtremeMusic card.

I have PCI X-Fi Extreme Gamer Fatal1ty Professional and paid 120€ for that thing, it must be possible to get a driver for these things if we have the source (even if it's not the OS X source). C'mon, we need drivers for these things! Onboard sucks :/

is it confirmed that pci x-fi doesnt work with osx86 ex: Extreme Music X-fi pci......that i just bought doesnt work >.>

That's really interesting. I've only been at the hackintosh thing for 3 days and it looks like my x-fi Extreme Gamer card is going to be the final hurdle.

I really like this card, for years I didn't buy a creative after experiencing the SBlive value and seeing their drivers and support were abysmal for the last few years. Then I got Win 7 and saw that my local store had Refurbished Gamer cards for $40.

Was completely blown away. Latest drivers are great and much better than the internal ALC8xxx on my Mobo.

Just hope someone with the skills will give these cards some love smile.gif
