Hi,
i've searched for days, but didn't find anything. So i hope someone of you know a solution. I have a Realtek ALC663 Soundchip in my ASUS Notebook, but i didn't find a way to bring it working. I hope someone of you can help building a working solution. I also have made this codec extraction under linux but the apple hda patcher says that it is an unsupportet codec.

here is my codec.txt:

dude, you are wasting time, I have been asking this question for 2 months, and NO ONE has responded, not even to say its not supported, NOTHING... so for now he have nothing...

I have an asus m70vm and i am in the same boat with an alc663 - NOTHING...
soulreaver1337
hmmm, but i can hope. i didn't see that you have postet a codec dump of 663 wink.gif
dandaman1976
no that is true, first question i had was how to do a DUMP CODEC, no responce, so google helped, second, was did anyone have an idea for the alc663 card, anything with 663 is someones post, was not even acknowledged... going back to someone else from 9/1.

I guess its a asus card favorite and not many people are using our computers with alc663 so we have a long wait....

its the last piece to my system workings and i have been waiting a long time. I heard that taurga works for efi-x now and any hope though him is no gone... can not confirm it.

I been around google and there really as of now is no hope for us... like i said that could change - people have been waiting months for a solution on other cards, so we too must, wait. Glad you came along, i was really feeling like i was the only one.

If i find any progress i will let you know - please do the same...

i'm on the way to try patch the AppleHDA.kext on my own to let it work. if i got it, i'll post the file in this thread wink.gif

the atheros 928x chip = no hope....

i am using a wireless usb card that i had lying around... the zyxel g220 works perfectly

Hi, if you're basing in some of my modded 662 kexts, then I can suggest you to:
1 AppleHDA/Contents/PlugIns/HDAEnabler.kext/Contents/MacOS/HDAEnabler use HexEdit, find 6206EC10 change to 6306EC10
2 AppleHDA/Contents/PlugIns/AppleHDAController.kext/Contents/Info.plist use PlistEdit Pro, look for the second HDAConfigDefaultwith LayoutID 662, in ConfigData put your 663 codecverb.
3 AppleHDA/Contents/Info.plist use PlistEdit Pro, look for the second CodecInfo (ID662), change 283903586 to 283903587
4 Also in AppleHDA/Contents/Info.plist, look inside the second Layouts, look for CodecID change 283903586 to 283903587
5 Also in AppleHDA/Contents/Info.plist look for the second PathMap (ID662) change it acording to your ALC 663 LinuxDump.

If you need any help, just tell me.
Good Luck.

Ok this is not the final 663 right?

because i installed this kext and system profiler shows it as 662

"
Device ID: 0x104311C3
Audio ID: 662
Available Devices:
Headphone:
Connection: 1/8 inch Jack
Line Out:
Connection: 1/8 inch Jack
Line In:
Connection: 1/8 inch Jack
Line Out:
Connection: 1/8 inch Jack
Microphone:
Connection: 1/8 inch Jack
Line Out:
Connection: 1/8 inch Jack
S/P-DIF Out:
Connection: Optical
"

so i am assuming this is a work in progress right?

thanks for you replies...

Hi soulreaver1337, this is what I could do for you, cos' I don't have an ALC 663 to try it. Click to view attachment
I will post the graph maybe someone can help to advance further Click to view attachment

Now you have to try the values in AppleHDA/Contents/Info.plist (PathMap Id663) to make it work, change whatever you like, you can have many copies of Info.plist you like, because only the one named Info.plist is used.
It's going to be a really hard work.

Good Luck

Now you have to try the values in AppleHDA/Contents/Info.plist (PathMap Id663) to make it work, change whatever you like, you can have many copies of Info.plist you like, because only the one named Info.plist is used.
It's going to be a really hard work.

Good Luck

Ok, I'll give it a try smile.gif

Well, I had the same empty in/out under sound while I was dealing with my ALC662, be patetient, try little node-configurations first, you need to get a Mic or Line-out showing first. then try to increment it, by adding another node-configuration entry, it's going to be a hard work.
In the PathMaps node-configurations for 663 you need to put first Mics or Line-Ins, next will be Speakers, Line-Outs, Headphones.
Maybe I'm wrong, but you're limited to 5 principal entries in PathMaps.
If you take a look at the graph there's a (0x10 Stereo Digital) ---> (0x11 [N/A] Speaker at Ext Rear Mono Digital OUT), I didn't declared it in your PathMap cos', some changes produce a kernel panic at startup.
Do you have another partition or hard disk with a working system? In that case you can try wildest combinations.
So you can startup using the other system, fix the bad AppleHDA.kext and do this in terminal (replace tiger with the name of the one you're fixing):

chmod -R 755 /Volumes/Tiger/System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext
chown -R root:wheel /Volumes/Tiger/System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext
rm /Volumes/Tiger/System/Library/Extensions.mkext
diskutil repairPermissions /Volumes/Tiger/System/Library/Extensions/

I'm still working on ALC662, so if I see in another thread a finding, or maybe have a own finding, I will share with you.

the main thing which is confusing me is this {censored} 0 1 2 3 4 5 seperation in the plist file. i always don't know which number is what and then if you go in 0 which should be the mic there is suddenly again a 0 1 where only should be a 0 if i can trust the tutorials for patching applehda.kext files wink.gif That is my main problem. to know which number is what. the node numbers gave me the applehda patcher by taruga. it printed out
CODE
    Back Mic: 9 34 24

  Line In  : 8 35 26

  Speaker  : 20 12 2

  LineOut 1: 21 13 3

  Headphone: 27 38 37

  Spdif Out: 30 6

could be a last help that you say which is what?

like:

Root>IOKitPersonalities>HDA Driver>PathMaps>1>0 = Mic
Root>IOKitPersonalities>HDA Driver>PathMaps>1>1 = LineIn
...
there are 5 or 6 ones in the plist file. but not with only one path to the nodes. normally, for example, there should be one path until the last part where 3 nodes have to be configured for the mic. but in the middle there are suddenly 2 like i wrote above.

sorry if i steal your time but like i said, i'm a mac newbie wink.gif

Hi soulreaver1337, we all are AppleHDA newbies, but we're trying, OK?

Here's a slimmed version, with Taruga's like PathMap, so it will be easier to work with.

Why doesn't AppleHDA Patcher by Taruga work? anyone know that? Bad codec dump by ubuntu? what did u guys use to make the dump? i will try with another linux distro...
dandaman1976
with ubuntu the dump did not work, and i am seeing that some realtek cards are not capable of working with hdapatcher, so i know tuarga was suppose to be working on version 2.0 but that never came to fruitation, and i know not where he is or what the status of the project is...

I just wanted to add these two docs to the thread. They are product datasheets for Realtek ALC662 & ALC663. Maybe they can aid in creating a working kext for our ALC663? Inside them you will find device diagrams and detailed information about the hardware. If there's a working ALC662 kext, maybe we can mod it for our chipset?

Ok, my sound output is working on the speakers right now!!! I used the AppleAzaliaAudio.kext posted in post#28, and now i'm getting sound out of my speakers! I've been messing with the applehda.kext file and others in my extensions folder tonight, so I'm not entirely sure what did it. But it's working (sort of)! My mic, line-out and spdif jacks aren't working, so you can't use headphones. I can change the volume with the tray icon, but can't figure out how to use the hardware fn keys for volume. There is hope!!! I'll see if I can remember what else I changed.

Can you upload your applehda.kext, and have you removed ac97audio or some other things?

And are u running 10.5.5 or 10.5.6?

GDI - i had to turn my lappy off last night (no sleep mode here) and when i booted it up the sound has stopped working!!! OMFG I had it working for a half hour last night it was great. I have renewed hope that this will work. I'll look at it later tonight after I get off work and report back if I get it working again. The weird thing is all I changed was I installed a program called "ControllerMate" to re-assign some of my F- buttons to control the volume-up and volume-down. I seriously doubt installing this program has anything to do with the sound breaking again. Could osx have over-written some kext information during start-up / shutdown? Hmm... I'll post back later and see what I can find!
Turanli
There is always hope! I have also managed to get some kind of sound out of the HP only... The sound is very choppy, Its like the bass is 80 % and everything else is 20%. The vocal gets more clear when i go over 100% volume fx with VLC... I achieved this with the azalia i modded...
Toasted Logic
Well after much fiddling I am back to where I was the other night. I have audio through speakers (sound is rather tinny - don't think the subwoofer is working) and if you connect headphones to SPDIF out you get sound, although the speakers will continue to play even while your headphones are plugged in. I got sound through speakers by totally removing AppleHDA.kext and ALCInjector.kext and by installing the modded kexts attached to this post. I thought you guys might like to know that you can at least get some audio feedback from speakers in this method. For some reason the System Profiler app says no audio hardware is present with this method...?

I spent a bunch of time with trying to mod the AppleHDA.kext tonight with no luck. At one point I had the system profiler showing all the ports mapped 100% correctly (at least to my knowledge) but there was no audio devices in system prefs and obviously no sound.

So if you'd like to see if this works to give you at least some sound through your speakers, try it (i suggest making a backup of your files beforehand!).

EDIT: I just wanted to add that with this method I am actually able to get my Jabra BT620 stereo bluetooth headphones working (with great results)! Not quite the best solution, but it's usable for now! Wewt!

EDIT 2: I rebooted and what do you know? It stopped working. No more audio through speakers, although I still have the device "HD Audio Output" under my sound preferences. The volume keys are bringing up the on screen display as though the speakers are working, but there's no sound any more... Any ideas?!?
Toasted Logic
Ok, I'm not sure what's going on, but my sound is back. I notice that when my sound stops working thru external speakers, my bluetooth module is not recognized. So I reboot into windows, mess around with the fn-key and the manual WLAN/BT switch on the side of my laptop to be SURE that both the bluetooth and wlan modules are physically enabled, reboot and bam - sound is working thru speakers again! I think there's something about these ASUS laptops, they are finnicky/buggy when it comes to the BT/WIFI switch(es).

Anyway, the speakers sound pretty decent, but I want my built-in mic, headphone jack, line-in mic, and SPDIF out to work... so back to work I go.

PS- Anyone know how to view which KEXTs are loaded at a given time? I want to determine which kext is actually working...

Can you upload your DSDT.aml? it has maybe something to do with that?
Do you use EFI strings?

well i installed it on my asus m70vm and it worked, rebooted as it has not worked since... but funny enough it does has something to so with the damn bluetooth wifi switch, when i installed it i made sure switch was off, and had the BROKEN icon, and it worked sound was good, but then on a reboot it went away again, and the bluetooth was still broken, i have not been able to regain that sound...
greyreap
Is there a way to physically bypass the stupid switch without cutting the wires to it (I guess I can look as easily as anyone else), like maybe there is a snap on type connector that runs from the switch to the motherboard. I hate that switch anyway, it is totally useless when you can just use software control, and every single time I attempt to use the switch the fn key will end up switched around and I have to jump through hoops to get them back in line.

Sorry, that was just a quick rant about the pointless switch, but it really would be good to be able to bypass it so that issue can be eliminated from the sound equation. I'll try to open it (G50V) up later and take a look.

Turanli, I have the Asus M70VM-X1, it is very similar in base hardware to your G50V I believe. My laptop has an intel PM45 chipset, T9400 core2duo (2.53ghz), ALC663, Intel AGN 5100 (wish this worked), and GeForce 9600M GS (512mb).

I don't use EFI strings, and I've never modded (at least to my knowledge) an DSDT.aml file. I'm running 10.5.6 on vanilla kernel - updating fine through apple update.

greyreap - I feel your pain. I have no idea why they gave us two options to switch the bt/wlan off. I have the same problem constantly (at least in windows) where the two switches get out of synch. It's a big PITA. Let us know if you decide to mod your switch and what results you get!

For now, i am going to go back to seeing if i can patch AppleHDA. I want my headphone jack and built-in mic working!

I only have bluetooth when i boot in Verbose... -v in boot flag... Do u guys have the same thing? Does the bluetooth appear in lspci?

Btw i have already patched the AppleHDA by following one of the Tuts, but i never understood the thing with pin config - verbs etc... Will i get sound from AppleHDA without pin config?

Ok, got Azalia working with my notebook and sound when I start windows vista at first.
This enable the soundcard. A reboot is a warmstart.

What does this mean:
Azalia it self work, but enable not the mixer.
