Hey guys, I've been banging my head agains the wall for a few hours on this one, and I'm not having a lot of luck. I'm setting up Kalyway 10.5.2 on a buddy's Asus A8N SLI Deluxe, and I finally got everything working except the audio. The Sound control panel just won't show any output devices. I installed with the included Realtek AC'97 driver and I'm not having the "out of the box" experience found by some others. I opened Audio MIDI Setup and basically everything is greyed out - I don't even have the option of messing around with anything. I installed an AZALIA_out package I found by surfing the forums as well, but no result. I'm really scratching my head here.

Not looking for anything fancy, just plain old stereo. I've tried a set of headphones with all the audio ports, but I'm coming up empty. Any tips folks? Anything you can offer would be much appreciated.

Nothing? Hmm... I'm really wondering what this could be. About the only thing left to do is check the vendor/device IDs in all the plists in the AC'97 kext, but there are a few sub-kexts and I'm not sure which one is actually for this particular device. I'll try and look for something familiar. Meanwhile, and help you could offer...

Still nothing, eh? I've tried downloading and installing various kexts that people say they have their audio working with, but no luck. I also tried removing all but the required sub-kext (I figured out which one) and deleted all device/vendor IDs except the relevant one. I manually unloaded the kext and then manually loaded it with kextload -t, and it claims to load properly, but there are still no devices in the audio control panel.

I mean seriously, the wiki says ALC850 works out of the box. The kext seems to be loading without error. The Vendor and Device IDs are correct. I have tried multiple AC97 Audio kexts from various sources. What in God's name could be going wrong here? Could it be a kernel conflict? Should I try a different Kalyway kernel, or should I try reinstalling with Zephyroth, or what? I am running on empty. I can not think of anything else that migth fix this.

Hi, I have a Gigabyte K8NS Ultra 939 with ALC850 AC97 sound chipset.

I managed to get it working (simple stereo output, multiple inputs)
using these .kexts:

I hope it helps you out.

Need I say backup your original .kexts first ?

PS. These .kexts work both in Zephyroths 10.5.2 latest release and Leo4allv3. (at least for me).
