Full Version: USB 5.1 Sound?

Well everything is working just great on my Hackintosh except I am missing 5.1 sound. I have a Creative X-Fi, which of course will never function in OSX.

Currently I am using a generic Cmedia stereo USB device. It works perfectly in OSX, and even the Volume buttons on the device work. However I use my computer as my main DVD player, and 5.1 in OSX would be nice smile.gif

Is there any USB sound "cards" that have 5.1 analog outputs and work in 5.1 mode under OSX?

You can bodge it with mutliple cheapo usb dongles, if you want to go that way.. plug them in & use audio/midi setup to create an aggregate device that's 5.1 or whatever.. more of a novelty than a practical solution, but there it is...

I compiled a list here http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=702353 you can do research on the cards here in the forums by searching for a specific card via google: cardname site:insanelymac.com

Thank you both!

I wasn't aware the Audio utility could combine devices like that.... Haven't used Macs since the OS7/8 days. Still learning everything smile.gif

I haven't been that impressed with the X-Fi thus far... Creative's drivers for Vista are, well... just not that good at all. Think I will be getting rid of the X-Fi to some poor soul on eBay and getting one of these USB devices smile.gif
