  1. just bought a harpertown 2.8ghz 8-core mac pro for $1850. decent machine at decent price. time to part out GHETTO-7... *sniff*
  2. Well, fellow modders, I'm at a crossroads here. I am considering purchasing a legit mac pro, as I am no longer interested hackintosh. My GHETTO-5 has been a great lil stealth hackintosh, so it'll be kind of a shame for it to go to waste. I guess my 2 options are A. part it out on ebay, or B. sell the whole system. If anyone is interested in taking over GHETTO-5, let me know, so I can field interest. I haven't had the best luck at getting snow leopard running on this board, mostly because I am lazy, and have lost interest. This machine has been running windows 7. G5 modded case (featured in this thread) intel i7 965 extreme (can do 4ghz at 1.25 vcore and passes prime95) asus p6t ws profession x58 i7 12gigs g.skill ddr3 1600 low latency ram areca pci-x raid card (native support leopard and snow leopard) 2 300GB western digital velociraptors in raid 0. gtx 280 1GB I would rather sell the machine together as a whole kit than part it out, but that might not be realistic. I think the most practical thing to do is to sell the parts individually and case individually on ebay. Heres' what GHETTO-5 is looking like these days:
  3. I finally got around to breaking Ghetto-5 open, and upgrading him to i7.... and now I am really sad. The performance is horrible. My rendering times in my 3D apps are also worse than a slow core2 duo. Patched a new DSDT in Leo, everything is recognized and working... all 8 cores, CI/QE... so I am dumbfounded. I should have stayed on X48. I'll admit, I've been busy, so I haven't kept up on the scene, but my X48/Q6600 was running on SL just fine. I'm actually contemplating going to the dark side now. If anyone has any ideas as to how my machine could so freakin slow with such great parts, I would really appreciate it. -NC
  4. The power button shares the firewire ground. If you have not connected the firewire up right, then the frontpanel wont work as it was intended to. You are not supposed to be using "pow switch -", the power switch ground actually shares the firewire ground. The cable labeled firewire ground needs to be connected to a ground pin on your motherboard. If your board has no firewire header, then running it to a usb ground pin might work.
  5. I am thinking about trying the ModBook drivers on a tablet pc. The modbook uses a wacom ISD-V4 serial tablet with a Prolific USB-to-serial bridge. So is it safe to assume that the ModBook drivers will work on any tablet pc with a ISD-V4 serial digitizer? My ModBook is in for repair, and it is going to be there for a while, because Axiotron is very, very slow in everything they do, so I would like to start experimenting on a tablet hackintosh. I was thinking of getting either the X61 or the hp 2710p. It needs to be a tablet that has all the essentials working. Any suggestions?
  6. Good luck!, and try and hang on to all ten fingers. I just checked, and a fair amount of heat does get dumped out the bottom, but some of that might be CPU heat, I've installed 2 exhaust fans on the PSU mounting plate, and they are right under the CPU.
  7. Looks good to me.... remember, the true purists laughed at me for the G5 Skate, and raping the underside.... I've often thought of adding a multy-port panel to the top of my G5.

  10. I'm actually amazed by all the fanboy pricks over at macrumors. They seem like the kind smug apple worshippers that make all mac users look bad. If I was going to write fiction it would be way better than what actually happened.

  12. students can't always afford xeons. besides, he doesn't need xeons. he built this box on a tight budget. if someone wants expensive xeons, they might as well get a real mac pro. but he doesn't run mac OS on it.... he's an XP guy. .... anyway, the goal here was silent computing.... guess you missed that part...
