Use a Clear or Mirror Dock then add a Darkened filter on the bottom of your Desktop image!

There is, or you can custom make one, BUT, the dock does not go to the end of the screen! so you'll have the ends of the desktop visible!

If you're using dragthing you can just add columns until they reach the screen edges.
But yes, I'm using a darkened strip at the bottom edge.
