Also might be worth emailing Asus and telling them you are a mac user who thinks that their soundcards are awesome and that they would do well to support them under osx.
I sent them as email about it a few months ago, more emails = more chance |

I would also like to request that someone smarter than me put out a CMI8788 patch. I would try if I knew anything about writing or porting drivers. I would even settle for a partial solution, like two channel sound. Thank you.

Here's another one who'd like a working driver. After 9 years I've finally retired my SBLive and got a D2.

Is anybody have specification and description of the chip of Cmedia8788? i'll try to write driver by myself. You could have a look at the Linux drivers (alsa). Linux has support for D1(X) and D2(X). There's even experimental support for the HDAV1.3 and upcoming support for the Essence series. They are supported by the snd-virtuoso driver. There's also support for other CMI8788 based cards like the AuzenTech X-Meridian through the snd-oxygen module. C-Media CMI8x38 PCI cards use the snd-cmipci driver. For all these cards all analog (7.1 or 5.1) and digital (except hdmi) connections seem to work properly. There is also support for 192/96kHz, 24-bit and MIDI. Basically everything except hdmi is supported. In Linux, but given enough knowledge and time those drivers could be portable. |

Hi
Don't forget about us. Is there somebody who can write drivers? I need only one stereo output 192kHz/32bit. Nothing more. My souncard is Asus Xonar D2 and in near feature I will have Snow Leopard (Actualy iAtkos v7). I am desperate. Datasheet: http://www.cmedia.com.tw/datasheet.html Windows driver: http://www.cmedia.com.tw/drivers.html Linux driver: http://alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Download Please help! |

I have an 8788, and back on Leopard, the 8738 driver worked quite well for me. This thread has a lot of info, and a kext that works in Leopard, but nothing that works in Snow Leopard yet.
