P5E-VM HDMI Guide and Vmods
The new P5E-VM HDMI is a good choice for Leopard though the integrated
Lan doesn't have any drivers.
But you can always use a cheap PCI or PCI-E Lan controller.
I've ordered a SK-9E21D PCI-E which is fully supported by Leo by default.

Attached File  p5e.jpg ( 13.5K ) Number of downloads: 299

Specs
Model: P5E-VM HDMI
Chipset: Intel G35/ICH9R
Memory: DDR2 800/667/533MHz
FSB: 1333/1066/800MHz
VGA: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3500 integrated - Might work with GMAX3100 kexts.
Audio: Realtek 883 - Works
LAN: Atheros L1 PCI-E Gigabit LAN - Doesn't work
IEEE 1394: VIA VT6308P 2 x IEEE 1394 - Works
USB: 12 x USB 2.0 ports - Works
EXP Slot: 1x PCI-E x16 l 2x PCI-E x1 l 1 PCI
SATA: 6 x SATA 3.0 Gb/s port - All 6 works in AHCI and ICH9 mode but not raid.
PATA: JMB368 2 x PATA - Works.

Vmods
Since this board suffers from a huge vdroop it might not be the best OC option ATM.
But that might change with a new bios release from Asus.
Further down I'll show you how to fix this issue and get a correct vcore reading when set in bios..
Don't attempt these mods if you don't know what you are doing and be careful when trimming in
vcore with the VR resistor.

P5E-VM HDMI Voltage options
CPU Voltage: 1.7V max - Gives real 1.48V or 1.58 with Pencil mod. Or higher with Vcore mod.
CPU Voltage Reference: [0.63x] - [0.57x]
CPU Voltage Damper: [Enable] - [OFF] - Not working, hence vdroop.
PLL Voltage: [1.50V] - [1.78V]
DRAM Voltage: [1.8] - [2.44V]
FSB Termination Voltage: [1.20V] - [1.50V]
North Bridge Voltage: [1.25V] - [1.71V]
North Bridge Voltage Reference: [0.67x] - [0.61x]
South Bridge Voltage: [1.05V] - [1.20V]

Ver. 1, Vdroop mod
Attached File  P5E_VM_HDMI_vcore_vdroop.jpg ( 70.83K ) Number of downloads: 677

Ver. 2, Vcore mod. 1.8v or over
Attached File  P5Evcore.jpg ( 328.2K ) Number of downloads: 448

Note that this isn't for unexperienced users!

These drivers are now a bit old, but still works in 10.5.2
Drivers needed for Leopard
I've made a package of the needed kexts:

Important files:
ALCinject.kext - needed for audio
AppleHDA.kext - - ll -
IOATAFamily.kext - Patched by Netkas and ToH to include support to run your 6 SATA ports in enhanced mode.
Increases Read/Write times to your HD with almost 20 Mb/s. Only drawback is longer bootup.

Optional files:
IONetworkingFamily.kext - patched for UUID 35 error by Netkas and ToH. Needed for TM.
IOAHCIFamily.kext - ads AHCI support for the 6 SATA ports. Already included on the Leo DVD

Download here:
Attached File  P5EVMHDMI.zip ( 2MB ) Number of downloads: 1717

Simplified Instructions
Delete your corresponding kexts in your Leo 10.5 och 5.1 Extension folder before adding these,
otherwise they might be modified with new data or even corrupt.
You also need to remove AppleAzalia.kext for proper HDA detection.
Repair permissions for the Extensions folder then sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions.

Good Luck everyone!

This board is smoking!

This has got to be the best OC matx board atm.
I can reach a stable 4.15 GHz with 1.65 vcore with water cooling biggrin.gif

Btw you should change the SB hsf to a better one since it gets a little hot.

This is awesome news. I'm wanting to use this board as an OSX candidate for a custom Logic 8-based DAW. I'm even lower than a n00b on the food-chain of the OSX-to-PC ladder, so please excuse me as I have a couple of stupid questions. I am here to learn, after all. blush.gif

I was wondering which modified OSX image you used for this (ie. Kalyway, etc.)?

This is a great board for OC Penryns.... running my Qx9650 at 4.5 GHz and have only changed Vcore everything else is at stock values... What's bugging me though is that Hardware Monitor can't read the CPU's temp sensors sad.gif...

I can't afford the QX9650 so I am sticking with a Q6600. Have you found a real difference between the Asus P5E-VW HDMI and the P5K-VM in terms of over clocking and compatibility? Also, would you put up a list of the other hardwear in your computer so that I can see what works and what doesn't? Thanks.

Hey,planning to make an htpc from one of these with leo/linux dual boot and silverstone ML02,
couple of questions:
Did the x3500 worked in the end or did you use pcie card?
How hot does it get with no oc?

Has anyone confirmed that the x3500 will work with leo? I'm actually considering a similar build (throwing in Vista for a triple-boot scenerio. I still don't want my main pc being interfered with any of those OS)

Everything works except NIC and GFX.
But since I use separate cards for that it's no problem...
I use a SysKonnect SK-9E21 PCI-e Gb NIC and it works natively in OSX with the built in Yukon driver...

As far as OC goes I can go much higher as with the P5K... but it means you have to do my Vdroop- and Vcore mod.
With my Q6600 G0 I could reach 4 GHz stable on the P5K and with the P5E 4.15 GHz...

X3500 drivers

the X3000 X3100 and X3500 are all of the same underlying design. We have x3100 drivers. Does anyone here have experience playing with the 950 series to tell us how to "play" with kexts. I am hoping a simple inclusion of a device ID and some renaming may be sufficient.

Anyone?

Have not tried the onboard graphics but since it's basically the same as the X3100 it should work with some plist hacking.... since the HDMI is basically the same as a DVI port it should work.... the X3500 works in vesa mode in OSX though..

I have a new Vcore mod that lets you crank up that low voltage to your CPUs to 1.8 or higher...

Check the first post for the new mod.

I just bought this board, along with an e8400. However when I took the 'new' board out of the box, imagine my surprise when I noticed a e6550 already seated in the proccessor socket. As much as I want to try out the e8400, I need the cash more than the speed.

I used the Kalaway 10.5.1 to install, had a bit of an issue because I put a space in the partion name.

Other than that it installed quickly.

Thanks for this thread, it helped me decide on this board, I needed a MATX for my case.

I have not had a chance to test anything yet, but will update soon.

UPDATE: feb 15, 1:15p.m.
I had to set the RAM to 800mhz in the bios to get that speed.

Hi,

Tried Leo4all 2 (it is the 1 patched with the ppf 2). Used nero 8 to burn the iso, as ultraiso gives me errors.

boot.......with ahci......and got...

EBIOS read error: Controlller or device error
Bolck - 1020628 sector 64

What the hell is that?

can somebody tell me the bios setting they used, and which leo install dvd version has been used (kaly, etc)?

Thanks a lot....i'd love to install leo on this pc, as the mb is a fab!
