Sources are telling ThinkSecret that Apple might release new MacBooks with the upcoming Leopard release. Sources believe the MacBook update will not be too big, instead having a similar speed bump the systems received last November ahead of the holiday buying season. It is unclear at this time whether this means the MacBook will maintain its current architecture and receive faster processors - the current 2.0/2.16GHz processors could be bumped to to 2.16/2.33GHz - or whether they will have the new Santa Rosa chips that the MacBook Pro got early this year.

The new MacBooks will probably be aluminum and will have a black border around the display (like the aluminum iMac).

I really hope they don't have aluminum casing. I want my Macbook to match my iPod, Glossy White. And at least I don't have to wait til MacWorld to see if new Macbooks are on the verge. Although I probably will because I'll wait for the 2nd gen to come around. For some reason I don't trust the 1st gen products (cough cough yellow casing defects cough cough).

I'm already sold. I knew that the macbooks wouldn't have a big change, but it's worth the extra wait to get the extra "UP's"

Although I'm going to be getting the MacBook Pro, the MacBook could do with a better GPU.

I agree... having a video card would provide benefits all around.

They probably wouldnot have a dedicated GFX. It gets hot enough already. Also a brushed metal look would suit the MacBook, as all Macs now are brushed, the iMac, Mac Pro, Mini (its silver...), MBP. So I guess MacBooks would become Silver too. A Metal body might even help cooling. Then we might have a GPU, or maybe even a X3000.

It would be pointless if they don't update to santa rosa with the new faster bus and the GMA X3100. I really want to buy one, but I'm waiting for this update. If they don't update it this time, I'm going with a toshiba. All laptop manufacturers have updated except apple.

Here in Australia Toshibas are far more expensive than a macbook with the same CPU, so there is no way i'd get a toshiba. |

Intels X38 chipset was officially released today, but more interesting was the note about G35 chipsett coming within a few weeks, it could end up in Macbook it features integrated gfx GMA 3500.
Thou it's probably more likely Macbooks get G965 (Santa Rosa). |

Has anyone noticed that despite running Santa Rosa, the Macbook Pro's still only use 667mhz ram? Do the processors only run with 667mhz FSB as well?
To quote wikipedia: QUOTE Processors - Socket P
an Intel Core 2 Duo (code-named Merom) second generation processor with 800 MT/s FSB, or an Intel Core 2 Duo (code-named Penryn) 45nm processor scheduled for release in November 2007 [1] for Santa Rosa Refresh platform. an Intel Mobile 965 Express chipset (code-named Crestline) with Intel's GMA X3100 graphics technology and ICH8M southbridge, 800 MT/s front side bus with Dynamic Front Side Bus Switching to save power during low utilization, and |

will it be under $1k ?
right now it's around ~1.1k , and thats' without a burner ?? the usable configuration in black,... is $1500 ,..... if they yam in a LED screen, and faster processor, like they did with the pro's , I don't expect the price to come down at all,... short comings on the macbooks I see, macbook screen resolution choices for the macbook 1440x900 be right no express card slot, and no firewire 800 and macbook pro 1680x1050 for corporate windows users, second mouse button, on the touchpad and some sort of option for figerprint reader and smartcard , even if it's external other big shortcomings even if it has an nvidia card, or ati, video , does not use it, for mpeg or dvd decoding, as such, it relies only on CPU, granted, the new core duo's are fast enough, but it does ramp up the fan and sucks the battery down more options to delete: the microsift stuff, options to add: parallels with ubuntu and with the keyboard, no full-size with bluetooth ? why ? of course my daughter wants one for school, but for that money, I could get an 42" plasma TV too,.... who wins? |

GMA X3100 doesn't suck that much... At least, so long as the hardware vertex shaders are working, it's multitudes faster than GMA950. Of course, it still won't touch the most basic dedicated GPU (well, maybe ones from a couple of years ago.)
