Hi,
I have problem with Adobe CS3 Master Collection. I have JAS 10.4.8 updated to 10.4.10, via PascalW's 10.4.10 update (8.10.1 kernel) on my AMD 3000+ system. CS3 installation was withouth problems. After this, I instaled AppleSMBIOS.kext 1.0.1 from Netkas - no success, next I instaled AppleSMBIOS.kext 1.0.6 - no success. I found some info here:

http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1091

and my next focus was replace IONetworking kext with patched version (downloaded from link in hackint0sh forum)
After this lmutil command was first time correct, but CS3 still crashing at activation screen.

Anyone can help me - just I havent any idea how to run CS3 in my computer

Thanx
Paca

I'm having the same problem, I've since given up and have instead resorted to just waiting for someone to release a cra... er patch. I have Design Premium and the cra... patch for it. But I need Premiere Pro which I do put to use. So the wait continues...

I managed to install on my hacintosh by copying the /Library/Application Support/Adobe from a cs3 install on my macbook. I used the terminal as root user. I have web premium suite and ID cs3 all running.

I found a solution for this problem - it works for me. The trick is - if you have 10.4.10 - downgrade your mach_kernel back to 8.9.1 version.

Just I am using: 10.4.10 with 10.4.9 kernel
AppleSMBIOS.kext 1.0.6
Patched Profiler with ProfilerPatch_0_1

and CS3 is working :-)

*** Do NOT forgot change System.kext to 10.4.9 version ***

to dhufish: It is unbelievable that your solution works for you - primary reason for activate software (from Adobe side :-)) is stop from software copying. And your solution is - ??? As I said - its unbelievable.

CS3 Design Premium and After Effects CS3 (Both Legal Copies) installed and run fine on my Hackintosh with the 1.0.6 AppleSMbios.kext I found on here. No problems registering at all. I am running 10.4.10 with the 10.4.10 kernel and all seems fine so far.

Paca, are you repairing permissions after changing your appleSMBIOS? Had the day off today so I decided to try installing JaS 10.4.8 on a new drive (been using uphuck's installers lately). I updated with PascalW as you did. As expected, CS3 shorted out so I replaced appleSMBIOS with 1.06 as usual. All CS3 programs ran fine and accepted all the latest updates. All my systems are Intel so if it's an AMD thing, I don't have any more suggestions.

Hmmm.... replacing the SMBIOS.kext worked on my Hackintosh at work but not at home. Work = Intel, Home = AMD...

It might be interesting to hear from others to see if this problem is specific to AMD processors.

Yes, It seems to be AMD 10.4.10 kernel problem. Anyone having same problem on AMD?

I am having the same problem on my AMD 3200+, running JaS 10.4.8, upgraded to 1.4.9 (with latest netkas kernal). The system seems to run fine except for all Adobe CS3 applications crashing. I have tried Adobe CS3 Design Suite in it worked perfectly once I applied cra...errhh "patches". I dont think there any "patches" for the Master Collection though.

Also, it is worth noting, that most Intel machines arent effected by this problem

Actually, most Intel machines are affected by this, it's just that it's easily corrected by switching the appleSMBIOS.kext.

Strange thing is I'm 10.4.9, never upgraded to 10.4.10 and it doesn't work for me... strange that going to 10.4.9 to 10.4.10 then back down to 10.4.9 makes it work. I wonder if theres some combo of files that make it work/break it.

Ok it's definitely Intel vs. AMD related, I installed it fine on a third machine, I posted the following in another thread

--------------

I've installed Design Premium on 3 machines successfully, 2 by replacing AppleSMBIOS.kext the third by 'patching'

Using a 'utility' also allowed me to install Master Collection on one of those Intel machines after replacing AppleSMBIOS.kext

2 that worked w/ replacing the AppleSMBIOS.kext were Intel, the one that didn't work was AMD...

I also noticed that on the AMD machine, prior to patching the applications, the error it would give was different than on the Intel machines.

On the AMD machines, the apps would crash on launch but it would be a Finder error message window. On the Intel machines they would crash at launch but they'd be an Adobe error message window. Replacing AppleSMBIOS.kext (WTF is it anyway) would correct the problem on the Intel machines.

All three machines are running uphuck 10.4.9 v1.3

AMD Rig = Dual Opteron 252, 2GB RAM
Intel Rig 1 = P4-Prescott 3GHz 1GB RAM
Intel Rig 2 = Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz 4GB RAM (About this Mac = CPU unknown, profiler shows correct CPU info)

I'm beginning to wonder if Adobe coded into CS3 a check for AMD vs Intel?

CODE
if the CS3 apps crash when you try to activate them, you need to replace a kernel extension (also included!). Do this exactly.

Open up a terminal. (applications->utilities)
type: sudo bash
enter your password. it won't show up. hit enter.
type: cd /System/Library/Extensions
type: mv AppleSMBIOS.kext AppleSMBIOS.kext.old
Go ahead and kill the terminal.
That will backup if something dreadful happens.

Now, open finder, go System/Library/Extensions/.
Drag your kext folder into there. Enter your password.

Open the disk utility (applications->utilities). Select your main HD. Click repair permissions. Reboot.

jl8080, this is basically what we've been doing. AppleSMBIOS.kext replacement only works for Intel systems. Not for AMD.

dhufish - Tried your method, it made an improvement. Premiere Pro would load first then the Activation window would come up if you click continue it would still crash. Before the Activation window came up first without the App ever loading. As I mentioned before, the crash is different on my AMD vs Intel system. AMD the crash window that pops up is from the Finder, Intel it's from Adobe.

I think in the end the only way to get it working on an AMD machine is to patch it.
