Three Mac-Windows Network Questions

Hi,

I've recently set up a network at home so that my Windows computer can get files from my Mac. There are three things I can't figure out, though. There's a diagram of a simplified view of my system below if that's needed.

1) How do I set the permissions so that users on the Windows computer can only read the files on the Mac, and not rename, delete, replace, modify, or create them? I've set the permissions for everyone but Owner (which is not the user Shared) to read-only, but this doesn't seem to stop Windows from doing any of the things above. Is this because the Mac is Unix-based and Windows is not? or because I'm using an external drive?

2) The user account 'Shared' is the one enabled for Windows sharing. Once a user on a Windows computer with access to the network goes to /Users/Shared/Pictures/Album2/, which is really /Volumes/External/Pictures/Album2/, can they then in any way navigate to /Volumes/External/Pictures/ ???? If it is possible, how can I prevent it?

3) How do I configure files/directories on the Mac so they are hidden to a user on the Windows machine? I have tried setting the invisibility bit, but this does not seem to affect how they appear in Windows. Renaming to begin with a dot works, but obviously this is no good for things like the Library and Desktop.

Thanks very much for any help!
