just install 10.4.9 combo update (8P2111).
I install update, replace kernel back to 8.8.1, replace some kexts ( IOIATAFamily, AppleSMBIOS). System booted, but have problems, undefined symbols in BSDKernel.kext and ATIRadeon9700.kext. I replace them with same from 10.4.8. System works, qe/ci/qe2d works. BUT, i can't mount dmg image, i don't know what's kext is bad ( problem exactly in some kext, because i try 10.4.8 with kexts from 10.4.9, and wasn't able to mount dmg) So i back 10.4.8 kexts, update ATIRadeon9700 bundles and pluging to 10.4.9 version. System work now fine, qe/ci/qe2d supported. So instruction is 1) backup kernel and kexts 2) install 10.4.9 combo update 3) do not RESTART, replace kernel and kext back. 4) update permissions and prebindings 5) restart and enjoy This post has been edited by anoynimouss: Dec 23 2006, 10:34 AM |

No luck here.
I,ve got "still waiting for root device" and cannot boot it to single user with semthex or mifki kernel. I see another error which is related to kernel i think.. com.apple.kpi.bsd..._kauth_cred_unref.. |

Use System.kext from 10.4.8, this will solve this problem and problem with mounting dmg images. so new instruction is 1) backup kernel and kexts 2) install 10.4.9 combo update 3) do not RESTART, replace kernel back. 4) Replace System.kext, AppleSMBIOS.kext, IOATAFamily(actualy only this file from 10.4.8 kexts for intel chips- /System/Library/Extensions/IOATAFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext/Contents/Info.plist ) with files from 10.4.8 5) update permissions and prebindings 6) restart and enjoy |

for mount disk image perhaps you need to replace DiskImages.framework with 1048 version.
Extract it from apple 1048update with pacifist to /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ btw, all app working well in 1049? |

eGWan , easy way to solve dmg problem is add this lines to /etc/rc
/usr/bin/sudo /sbin/kextunload -c com.apple.AppleDiskImageController /usr/bin/sudo /sbin/kextload -b com.apple.AppleDiskImageController |

Running fine on my sse2 Pentium - M - GMA900 - Laptop - Using Semthex beta9 exp6
Installed 10.4.9 update over existing functioning 10.4.8 - 8.8.1 system replaced - AppleSMBIOS - IOATAFamily - AppleInteIntergratedFramebuffer - System kexts replaced - OpenGL.framework replaced - LoginWindow.app removed all GMA950 related kexts repaired permissions updated prebindings ********************** Had a weird issue with kext permissions - despite repairing before rebooting using diskutil - had to manually fix permissions in single user to get GUI working properly. |

I've tried to update without any new kexts and frameworks but still same error. Weird. |

worked for me too.
I didn't replace IOATAfamily.kext though. only thing I don't like about it, is that the kernel is still the same (8.8.1). cheers |

@ Katch:
I noticed in your screen shot that your displays are not mirrored. You're on a laptop, right? So I take it you used the pin-bridging trick, or am I wrong? If I'm right, and you tricked your OS X into thinking there's an external display connected, your mouse probably goes off into blank space if you move it far enough to the right, off your screen, right? Well, if you go to display settings, gather windows (so that the fake external display's settings window comes onto your laptop display), select the resolution on your external display to match the desired resolution set for your LCD notebook dispay, gather windows again, confirm changes, then click on arrangement and set to mirror, you should get rid of the problem with losing mouse pointer. I hope this doesn't make anyone mad, it's off topic, I know, but I just thought I could help someone out a bit -- even though I just talked to you in the Kernel room and I know you know more than I do Katch, I was just hoping I could help a tiny bit. Anyway, if I was wrong about your setup or if this is way too off-topic for anyone, please feel free to delete. Sorry again, just saw an opportunity to help. |
