The first question, and I'm sure it will be the most asked: Is that actually a Hackintosh or is that a real Apple computer?

You're pretty darn quick, aren't you .. biggrin.gif You just had a couple of hours time to modify the 10.4.8 kernel source to boot into write protected -s mode. Wow I'm really stunned.

It is possible if you know what to patch as im sure the initialisation routines havent (or shouldnt have) really changed that much in the new sources

Im sure at the moment it will be Intel, SSE3 (or 2) and a mob which has HPET ( if he hasnt bypassed it), but it could just be on a mac so we dunno yet.

This is strange... does your processor have a dual-core, Vitality? It should be easier (technically) to run a 10.4.8 kernel on a Core Duo because of certain power management instructions that are specific to a Core Duo's architecture. That's why all kernels since the 10.4.4 release haven't been able to run on the majority of our CPUs.

If the 10.4.8 kernel was really patched, this is big news.

Yeah, Pentium D's are dual core. They are not Core Duo though. Their setup is quite similar to mine! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif Kudos Vitaliy, that’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind sorcerer.gif

Very, very nice work! Hopefully the new Rosetta will (or can be made to) work with this new kernel, then we'll be in really good shape...
