On the plus side I seem to be ahead of many of the folks that have basic connectivity issues (I am using iPC 10.5.6 and then some updates from osx86tools) .. the 8111C on my Mobo worked somewhat out of the box, and osx86Tools installed an update (Realtek RTL811/816BB) so it worked even better.. so much I thought it was perfect.. until I tried iTunes/Bonjour.. and then I found it wasn't perfect (it could not see my iTunes share.. an older 10/100 NIC I have sees it just fine)

do any of these other RT driver versions support Bonjour? (I've tried RTG2Mac and did not see any improvement.. unless I was supposed to remove something else...)

thanks!

on my ga-ep35-ds3 bonjour works with the psystar version. no go with neither the 1.16 nor the 2.x from realtek. as I'm not at home right now, I can't upload it.

cheers

ok , I managed to get the ethernet to work with the R1000 v104 driver by deleting all the kexts but AppleRTL8169 in IONetworkingFamily
Problem is that it still gives a wrong MAC address and changing it in Terminal doesn't work
I still don't get how the same hardware can give a different MAC in windows and osx

It's because de driver isn't programmed to get it right from the card.

Is that the 1.8 (or something like that) version? I think I found that already and can give it a shot tonite. Just didn't want to try random drivers.

Now so far, I've only been playing with gfx kexts... it sounds like these networking drivers might go in a different location? Do I need to remove any other drivers when I try this one? I have the default from 10.5.6, and then the Realtek RTL811/816BB installed from osx86tools.

thanks,
Mike

It can't be random , with the different versions of the driver i tried it's always the same wrong address

(I believe) some cards let you SET the MAC address.. could that be what you are seeing?

I never said it was random, the driver might just not ever read it correctly, or not read it at all and just use a hardcoded variable.

It's ROM-burned, not 'settable' but only spoof-able.

Please?

Buy a supported card and disable the onboard. You'll have better performance and built-in support.

I feared as much.

OnePlane, what ethernet card do you have/would you reccomend?

Plus, what's a good external wireless card to get for a laptop running osx86?

Well after about a month of success with Psystar 1.8.1 my 8111 suddenly stopped on my EP45-UD3P. I just can't get it going again

For wireless, get a Broadcom BCM4318. For wired get a Netgear GA311, since it's reported to work flawlessly.
Look at the wiki for more information.

well, i have a GA311, and since updating to 10.5.6 its everything but flawlessly.

right now, i'm trying to get the bonjour working from the 8168B from my EP35-DS3P motherboard.
but it looks like the GA311 is not that safe after all

Hmm, that's too bad. The card used to be a safe choice. I guess it's up to the Airport Extreme imitators from now on..
Updates have proven to be a bad thing for drivers (but a good thing for all the other stuff).

I wonder if someone tried a PCI Express to Mini PCI Express adaptor and a genuine Airport Extreme Card..

i know, thats why i bought it smile.gif
anyway, the psystar r1000 drivers work with the onboard RT8168B from my motherboard, and bonjour looks fine so far.
so, beside having a spare network card it works fine smile.gif

fun thing is, however, someone listed the GA311 as OOTB in the 10.5.6 compatibliity list.

I agree about the Netgear GA311 card... its not perfect but once was...

I've used the RealtekR1000 driver and the native 8169.kext and the card works but the problem is that every time I DL something like say a torrent with high speeds or high uploads... it'll suddenly stops working and i have to either restart or switch to my onboard RTL8111. At first I thought it was my ISP throttling me but I guess not.....

do the different versions of the RealtekR1000 driver make any difference with the GA311....?????????
