OS: 10.6.6, Legacy Kernel, i7 740QM, 8GB RAM

GTX460M using tonymacx86 Nvidia, Chameleon RC5

I have an Asus G53JW with a Chicony UVC Webcam (VendorID: 04F2, ProductID B1BB) and am trying to get the camera working using the following method:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=238847

(My modified Info.plist: http://pastebin.com/3XXUxWJZ )

The webcam appears to be detected properly as an iSight (after modifying the Info.plist). I'm testing with Photobooth and iChat. In the camera settings, the screen appears black but the camera light activates. Everything acts as if it should work, but no image displays.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

use cam twist app. First launch Photobooth/QTX/ichat etc, then when you have the black screen, launch cam twist , activate webcam fronm there and voila you have webcam picture in Apples apps.

Had the same problem with UVC chicony cam ( toshiba L500 ) . Works in Snow and Lion ( notice : photo booth needs QE/CI enabled for the effects ).

Brightness/Contrast issues : install "iglasses", it plugs into Apples apps and lets you control webcam settings ( after cam twist activates webcam )

Thank you for this tip.

My Acer Aspire 9410-4933's OrbiCam has been showing nothing but blackness. I tried downloading and installing http://camtwiststudio.com/ as per smartie77. After starting up Photo Bootn and seeing blackness, I started up CamTwist Studio, selected "Webcam" under "Video Sources" and clicked the "Select" button and, sure enough, the OrbiCam started capturing images. WTH? This means something isn't initialized properly when starting up Photo Booth. I can then close CamTwist Studio and Photo Booth would continue to get images through the OrbiCam.

Same trick works with iChat.

The same trick does not work with Skype video nor Google Chat video, i.e. video in both of these cases would remain black.

However, if I have CamTwist Studio running prior to starting up Skype, I can choose "CamTwist" as a "Camera" and I can see the OrbiCam capturing the video.

I'm currently on 10.6.8 and I'm pretty sure at one point I recall seeing video working with Google Chat but that was with earlier Snow Leopard versions (don't remember which).
