Hackintosh on Dell XPS 1645

I'm looking to get Snow leopard running on my Dell SXPS 1645. I've heard it working for some people, and others say it isn't working for them. If anyone has got a install disc to work for them can you please post your install disc version and how you did it?

Thanks

Handware:

Core i7 720

RGBLED screen

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670

IDT High Definition Audio Device

Intel Wireless Card (Think this will be a problem cause don't all Macs come with Broadcom wifi cards?)

Lo!

I'm in the process of setting up my new i7 based Dell XPS 16 / 1645 laptop with Snow Leopard.

The only way I've got it to boot so far is off a 10.6.3 retail disk using the ##### (ati) iso (found here: http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010/04/ibo...ac-os-x-on.html ).

However once it enters GUI mode, after the grey apple screen, the laptop's display goes black. I tried plugging in a VGA cable, then an HDMI cable and then a Display Port cable and finally an image appeared on my external monitor.

I'm hoping that once I've got OSX installed I can use the display/screen prefs to change to using the laptop screen instead of my Dell 2709 27" monitor.

Not got any further yet, it's just running though the installer, but i thought this might help someone. I'll post back later with any other findings.

Having previously has a Dell 1525 that had a similar problem I already tried waiting 15 mins with the power out and lid closed, alas the laptop's display was still black after opening the lid again.

As it turns out, the ##### supported CD also lets me get as far as booting up and with a monitor attached to the displayport port from the 10.6.3 cd and from the HDD once OSX is installed on it.

However, try as I might I just can't get the system booting from the HDD without the ##### CD. I tried as many combinations of boot loaders, different version of chamelon, pc efi 10.6, kexts and the like that I could think of.

With the ##### ATI QE was NOT enabled and the video playback of the OSX install clip was very slow.

With the ##### Supported QE WAS enabled (yay) and the video playback of the OSX install clip was nice and smooth!

Also, the Display's system preference did NOT list more than one display. The only detected display was the monitor connected via the DisplayPort port. If any has any ideas on how to get the laptop's internal display working please let me know. Are there any settings that could go in the ATI KExt's?

I tried copying the files from the Preboot.dmg's Extras folder to the hdd's Extras folder (modifying paths in plist files as appropriate) but that didn't help.

If anyone can give me any pointers on how to use the same exts/plist/bootloader that are on the ##### supported cd on my hdd i'd be very grateful indeed!

Hey, thanks for posting about your successes with DisplayPort. I'll probably be getting a DP to DVI adapter soon to try it out. But first I have a question.

If you don't have any external monitors plugged in, what happens on a verbose and safe boot? My Studio XPS 16 seems to get through the entire kernel start-up, and then the screen goes black. I've seen some other people online who have managed to at least start up without QE/CI in safe mode, yet I can't even get this far. So far, I've just assumed it was due to my 10.6.3 install disc that I'm using, and I just noticed that you're using the same disc.

I'm not actually sure if I have a 1645 or 1647, but I do have a Core i5 540M and Radeon Mobility 4670 1GB.

I ran out of DVDR's & dug through my old burns (from around 2009). Found a disk of Kalyway that works, but it's Leopard (10.5.something). Got the battery icon to display. Got it to detect my LAN card (used KextUtility.v2.3.2.dmg to install both)

Still no internet though. When I run Network Diagnostics, it now allows me to select "ethernet" & the ethernet bullet-point is lit-up green. The "network settings" bullet-point is lit-up yellow. At the end of the wizard, I get "Network Diagnostics cannot fix the current networking problems. Check with your internet service provider or network administrator and make sure you are using the correct network settings." I've restarded the modem & the router like it's asked me to, but I'm 99% sure it's an internal problem.

USB works when plugged in before boot. If you are to unplug it & plug it back in, it'll still work (as long as you've booted with that USB device plugged in).

Anyone else with an sxps 1645? would love to hear how far you've gotten...
