mattrb
does it work with AMD??? Nope, that would only be the case if Apple started selling AMD MacPro's (will never happen) Use Voodoo Kernel for that AMD you have.
AppleIIGuy
So what benefits does this kernel give? What system.kext is it paired with? Is it a Vanilla kernel?
mattrb
So what benefits does this kernel give? What system.kext is it paired with? Is it a Vanilla kernel? This is a special Kernel for people who bought an i7 processor/motherboard. In the past we had to use Toh Kernel, then Voodoo Kernel with busratio=20 in the boot.plist. Now none of that special kernel or busratio=20 needed! No purpose in using this if you don't have i7. I don't think it needs system.kext pairing, it will work with vanilla system.kext in 10.5.6. Now 9.7 Kernel in 10.5.7 will make this not needed. This is a vanilla Kernel. As Vanilla as you can get.

Merc248
I'm guessing this still requires the AHCI and ICH10R chipset .kexts? Thanks for this, by the way! I'm going to test this out on my ASUS P6T (non-deluxe) sometime this week.
JorgeCCastro
seems to working great. even noticed a slight performance improvement... this is vanilla right?
mattrb
Brandon2004, we need the system.kext of this kernel because without it there are USB problems. If not, we have to wait til 10.5.7 and your intentions were fruitless. Please find your i7 MacPro buddie and post the system.kext in the extension folder to this thread. adamsalac
Hi guys, I know that it is a it off-topic,but try this one: It's the vanilla (really really vanilla) 10.5.7 9J56 kernel. Should work with i7 (at least I've heard that it should work) I also attached System.kext if there should be any problems. mach_kernel + System.kext Adam

I've found that it doesn't beachball on blocked I/O! If a drive is missing and I double-click on the icon, it will just open the window and using the spinning progress indicator. But, I can continue working in the Finder with no beachball as it continues in vain reading the contents of the missing drive. MAJ
buhgock
what would be the correct way to upgrade the kernel on a retail vanilla install 10.5.6 ? p6t i7 buhgock>
Brandon2004
The easiest way would be to download OSX86Tools. Google it you will find it. It has the option to upgrade the kernel and install kexts so you can do both with one program.

cFoo
Does not work on EVGA X58 It's probably because 9.6.0 Vanilla doesn't work either. Only Andy's 9.6.0 Voodoo works. I get stuck after the usual Firewire security check. Both disabler.kext and appledecrypt.kext are installed.

cFoo
My original installation is from iDeneb 1.4 10.5.6 distribution. Upgraded the kernel to Andy's Voodoo 9.6.0 - works great! EVGA X58 with i7 920. 12GB GSkill DDR3 Nvidia 8800GTX - using EFI string I replaced my system.kext with the one that came with the 9.7.0 kernel. Reboot with -f -v My seatbelt.kext is also 10.5.6 I'm not sure what else I may be missing. I'll give the firewire disabler a try and see if that'll get me pass that part. Obviously not needed, but I also tried to pass in busratio=20 to see if it'll work. It crashed even harder. A side note is that I never did get Vanilla to boot with this setup. molecule
Hi, I installed this kernel and noticed that everything is running in chip 'n dale mode. Everything moves twice as fast, even the clock dashboard widget second hand doesn't move correctly but instead jumps around like crazy. Anyone else experiencing this? (note. I installed both the kernel and System.kext with OSX86Tools)
Brandon2004
Other people have reported this too. But it doesn't happen to me. I know it not overclocking cause mine is overclocked so I am not sure.
