kristie_jeff
Not sure if this matches your issue too, but I had a problem connecting to my NAS server (linux running samba), and windows shared folders across the network I found out that it was related to passwords, more specifically, the way passwords are transmitted from OSx. I had to make a new file called /etc/nsmb.conf and make it read: [default] minauth=0 Save and exit (whoops, there goes my windows brain again) and restart. Again, this solved my issue, but I don't know if it will work for you. Just wanted to get it out there. Jeff

GuitarMan270
I've replaced the mount_smbfs and done chmod 777 ./mount_smbfs from the /sbin/ directory, but now have a different error. It says, "The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "smb://SERVERNAME" could not be read or written. (Error code -36) I'm trying to find the smbfs.kext file on the install DVD to replace the one on my hard drive, but I'm not sure where to look. Any suggestions? Vas P.S. had no need to replace 10.4.6 mount_* commands with 10.4.5 as this worked, may differ to other users.

It doesn't look like you should have to replace any of the mount_ files in order to get it to work. Thanks for all the help!

fyrekrig
Trying to use Vas method on 10.4.11 but unsuccessful. Done the script twice, same result. Message says that smbfs.kext is incorrectly installed and connot be used. When I try to connect via "Go" and smb:// I now get Error 36. Have a second Tiger 10.4.11 running on the network and from this I have no problem accessing the Windows XP PC. Have tried to find any differences between the two versions without luck.
