I applied the ISO and did an MD5 check and it came out fine. When I installed it it still ran 10.5.4. I think I'll just use msiosx for a bit while the 10.5.6 download works.

bcoz u used old ppf (1st ppf i made was to make 10.5.4 nc10... now it is latest 10.5.6 if u get 10.5.6 nc10

Short update from my side:

The Built-IN Samsung 3G modem is working OTB

needed this script to make it work: www.m10tech.com
Evaluation costs 10 Euro

does anyone know an alternative which is for free? Or can anyone alter the script so it works longer than 30 days?

Hi Mysticus and other readers,

I'm new here and this place feels like a real great community. Thanks for the ISO for 10.5.6 that I downloaded today. Installing it worked like a charm. I did miss the trackpad prefpane but after installing the trackpadfull.pkg.zip it was present and worked.
After installation I also set up Quicksilver for brightness control. Worked too.

After that I installed uk_keyboard_layout_fix.pkg.zip and the Brightness_icon_Update_10.5.6_.pkg.zip.

I noticed that when I plug in a Apple USB keyboard the triggers work on the NC10's keyboard, but it doesn't without a keyboard connected. Has anyone else experienced this problem or am I doing something wrong. To my idea I followed instructions to the letter.

I have noticed another little strange thing (not a real big problem):
The speed with which the pointer moves when I move around the trackpad is a lot faster vertically than horizontally but that might have to do with the strange aspect ratio of the NC10's trackpad. It's almost 2:1 instead of 16:10 of the screen.

It's quite exciting to have Mac OS X on a subnotebook while Apple stalls and stalls with releasing there own small laptop.

That's great! Now all we have to do is to find a way to buy these components to the computers that miss 3G.

Very good! biggrin.gif

epinephrin: thanx for sharing info about 3g modem, can you confirm whether it is connected via some special method? or via the other pci slot where most of us have the pin location but no pci slot attached to it... (when you open the back cover, you will see one wifi on one pci slot, and one you can see connection pin solders but no slot attached to put in another pci card... meaning even if you buy one 3g modem u may need to swipe it with wifi...) i m just speculating without seeing how the 3g modem connected... smile.gif

adamcarter and swe-gargamel: read above paragraph

aquduckles: enjoy mate smile.gif, also for the touchpd sensitivity, is probably caused same reason you mentioned... mostlikely it has speed settings built in for vertical/horizontal axis in the driver, never checked it though... it may be hexable smile.gif but i never looked into it... currently, the issues we have are minor and liveable smile.gif...

after voodoohda is released, we will have only LAN issue left... for sleep, i was talking "the king" on irc, and he kindly provided his solution although he wasnt as kind in his other topic regarding hda... smile.gif he didnt answer my question but he answered others so i was mean to him and he got mean back at me smile.gif

anyways... that his hda solution topic which he collected to quite sum information has limited use opportunities to certain hda codecs due to built in support, or no support smile.gif so to some degree i got some functionality from hda but not full... so only hope is that voodoohda will do what we cant do with official applehda drivers.... soon....

Thanks for the fast reply Mysticus. Have you got an idea why the triggers don't work? Or am I just overlooking something?

Hey Guys!

I have downloaded the NC10_JaS.OSx86.10.5.6.Intel.SSE2.SSE3_Mysticus.iso and installed it on my Samsung Nc10 via external DVD. I have followed your guide but after insallation the Osx bootloader appears and i´m able to choose between Windows XP Home SP3 or OSX. Windows still run but if i choose OSX it starts to load, on a white background you can see the apple logo for 3-4 sec, and then it restart itselfs. Please help i´m trying since 24h but not working.
thx
cheers

aqua: it may be related to UK kb mapping i think? remove apple keyboard, delete key on Qs, and re create them with new keyboard layout... it may be remapping some keys i dont know...

sansun: read the very first page of the guide, god sake, this has been said 10000 million times.... and i even placed the bios image to very first page and people still ignore it!!! this pisses me off...

why don't you change your first page of your guide to explain what happens if you don't change to the correct settings (ie a mini FAQ). This would save all us halfwits annoyng you.

plonker.

Deleting the triggers and adding them again without the USB keyboard connected didn't work. Is it possible to de-install the UK keyboard fix? Would be great. Thanks!

aqua: u dont need to uninstall, just switch the keyboard to british again... (i dont know why you have the problem though) i dont have any with mine, but i dont have usb keyboard either... sorry mate...

blade: i mentioned that already in previous first post! but when i edit i forgot to mention it, but i already stated that in the very first page of the guide to make sure to match the settings!!! if people read/search more i would not have to even write a note for this and the likelihoods...

anyways...

Mysticus, with the current speaker driver on 10.5.6, the FN+F6 doesn't work anymore. It doesn't silence the internal speaker.

Hi Mysticus, Switching to British and back to Dutch solved it. Everything is working again. Thanks for thinking with me!

Just like to chime in that I followed version 2 of the pdf install instructions on my NC10 and I have OSX running perfectly in a dual boot situation. Thank you so much!

Can anyone explain to a dummy how to acquire and install iLife, is that included with the install package and I forgot to install it? I'm looking specifically for garageband.

Thanks!

Abirch: iLife is not part of the ISO. The most easy way to install it is to either install it with the official DVD from an external USB DVD drive or create an ISO from the DVD with Disk Utility (part of OS X). You can then transfer the image to your NC10 via USB stick and mount the image.
Of course there are also plenty of ISO or DMG images to find in the green fileds of bittorrent. But I can't guide you there ;-)

Dark Gemini: I have no problem to silence my speaker with fn-F6 with an installation from the 10.5.6 ISO.

As I mentioned on my blog I'm now able to get almost full use of OSX with only the modified GMA extensions, the modified IO80211 extension, the two PS2 extensions (although one of these may be preventing the 10.5.6 Trackpad PreferencePane from appearing, despite edits) and AppleACPIBatteryManager.kext.

I tried without this last extension, and I lost the battery data. However, it was whilst I was experimenting with either an alternative AppleACPIBatteryManager or with AppleACPIPlatform that I hit the same failure to resume from sleep.

So the answer appears to be, rather than trying DSDT fixes (I have a DSDT.aml based on the 02CA firmware available for download from my blog, if it's any use to anyone), to instead try a different set of ACPI extensions.

Sound:
Fn+F6 works fine for me on 10.5.6 using the modified AppleAzaliaAudio extension.

SSD:
I swapped out the disc for a OCZ Core Series 2 30Gb SSD, which I got on a special-offer deal with about 30% off the usual price. Before swapping out the disc, which I did before attempting to install OSX, I ran a benchmark and the disc's performance was just slightly lower than the SSD's stated performance. Since the SSD has never had Windows installed upon it, I have not re-run the benchmark to confirm this.

For me, the main advantages are no moving parts and no noise. The performance seems good, with a restart (with verbose BIOS screens) taking 25 seconds desktop-to-desktop.

From a full charge, the battery meter quotes 8 hours 35 minutes run-time (with screen brightness at 25) - which seems entirely accurate after a day's usage. I don't know how this compares to NC10s with discs...

The SSD is a drop-in replacement: all the screw-holes are in the same place, and the SATA interface is standard. All that is needed is to remove the shield from the existing disc drive and swap it onto the SSD. Given that the disc is only held in by being sandwiched between the bottom of the chassis and the mainboard, having a non shock-sensitive device installed has to be a good idea...
