I think I remember reading that everything that Natit does can also be acheived through EFI strings - am I recalling this correctly? Since it seems to keep coming up, I might see what I can manage over the weekend... Ha! Got it The stock 10.5.6 drivers can be made to work by hex-editing them to replace the PCI device IDs (I downloaded a script which does this automagically, but I've temporarily misplaced it... I'll post more details on this step when I find it again), and then adding the following to /Volumes/EFI/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist or /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist (depending on whether you have an EFI partition or not): CODE <key>device-properties</key> <string>6d0000000100000001000000610000000200000002010c00d041030a00000000010106000002 fff0400100000006d006f00640065006c0000000b000000474d41203935302000000041004100500 4c002c00480061007300500061006e0065006c0000000800000001000000</string> ... this should be entered within the "<dict>" and "</dict>" tags. Note that the data within the "<string>" tags should be a single continuous line - this board adds line-breaks. Translated, this string reads exactly: CODE <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x2,0x0)</key> <dict> <key>AAPL,HasPanel</key> <string>0x00000001</string> <key>model</key> <string>GMA 950</string> </dict> </dict> </plist> ... so no magic here: this is basically a minimal change to alter the value of HasPanel to enable the graphics driver to start correctly. With this change in place, Natit.kext is no longer required! |

be specific what is failed? and what did you do? install should not fail, if it does please provide me the install log (when you are on install window, go to top left menu, window/installer log, show all messages) if what you want is to grab natit, install pacifist and grab it inside the package... Hi, Ive just ordered a 2GB ram stick and a Dell 1390 WiFi card, so I'm taking my plunge into the world of OSX with my daughters new NC10 Christmas pressie :-)
Does the current OSX installation chew battery life significantly more than XP ? (assuming LCD is set to medium on both to remove that as a variable) ... Has anyone got test comparisions for the 2 OSes ? Many Thanks PS. Please keep this thread alive.... the dedication and knowledge is fantastic (actually this thread is the reason Santa is coming to our house with an NC10 in the first place) |

darkgemini: please use the show all errors in drop down of log! i tested the script already and it works just fine, something is not right on your system maybe?
also when you extract the natit, did you fix the permissions? you dont seem to do it from the look of it... use kexthelper or use terminal to fix the permissions! |

I have to admit that I all of a sudden don't understand the instructions posted in this thread, maybe it's because I'm sick at the moment. :-/
So you have to excuse me if this question is obvious to everyone else. Anyway, can anybody confirm that they've got the headphone jack working with the instructions posted in the thread? |

Fixed it... whilst 10.5.5 is happy with AppleACPIPS2Nub or ApplePS2Controller, 10.5.6 requires both kexts to be active at the same time - with both loaded, everything is fine! Additionally, 10.5.6 no longer seems to require a custom SystemConfiguration bundle in order to access battery information so it is now possible to run OSX with custom kexts loaded from an EFI partition without changing anything from the installation on the main partition. I have 10.5.4 NC10 DVD running on my system and as advised I went out and bought a retail copy of Leopard for copyright purpose. But since I now have a retail copy I am thinking of doing it retail style (booting and Extension kexts in EFI partition). I know I shouldve done the research and the legwork myself but could you send me a zipped copy of the exact files you have on your /Volumes/EFI/ folder? Would save me a lot of hassle and from the look of it, you managed to get GFX EFIstring to work too so can I have your com.apple.boot.plist (or w/e its called, lol) so I can just install it and it works first time. I think a lot of other NC10 users would like to know what hacked extensions needed when you get to 10.5.6. too. Would like to know if Sleep works on your laptop too (lid/Fn+Esc/timed), especially with vanilla SystemConfiguration.bundle coz using a vanilla 10.5.4 or 10.5.5 broke my sleep (intermittently for some reason) Many thanks |

i've installed ideneb 10.5.5 and the sleep works great after the upgrade i've this problem i don't understand why because before it worked great... i m sorry i will not answer this question, it gets harder to track down drivers partitions etc you use from other distros... someone else may use ideneb answer the question pls... i suggested you to check the bios settings as well, did you check the bios settings? whole reason of making nc10 dvd is to keep everyone in track so easier to follow possible errors... ======================== for others: i m just back at home, so i will finish the guide hopefully and after that, i will make the 10.5.6 dvd upgrade process for interested people, which will not take more than 10-15 mins i will also include patched gma driver and the quicksilver with everything you need, will try to post the settings for people to correctly make the quicksilver arrangement, and you will have short cut key assigned for brightness control if you follow the guide... it will take me about 1-2 hrs hopefully if i m not disturbed ======================== |

as long as i can finish on time
what is coming: new update pdf guide: + new install process of the ddmac (creation, application and installation) to/from partition... + new partitioning scheme with reasonable spacing for 2 osx partitions (1 main 2 time machine/or files) + 1 ddmac partition (4.4 gb) + quicksilver preparation process for brightness control new installation pack for people who choose other distros (dont expect me to support debugging your errors please, these are the files for people who know what they are doing): + latest updated drivers for 10.5.6: gma 950 (patched for brightness control as well) with natit and brightness control scripts for using with quicksilver + my patched hda drivers for temporary usage until fully working VoodooHDA comes out (i will not include azalia driver but if you have previous packages you should already have a copy of it by now anyway...) 10.5.6 dvd iso/partition upgrade process for interested people (as usual no ppf as it exceeds 1.5 gb rate so i dont wanna handle such a big file): + iso: same as before, you will need to place the iso and 10.5.6 combo.pkg in the root, and process will do everything for you + ddmac partition: same as above: place the combo update in the root, process will take care of the rest... |
