I can answer that for you as I made the same mistake...lol nope you have to redownload the whole thing again, was a pain in the ass but it shouldn't take long, only took 3hours for me, but now i've made sure i've got at least one original and one NC10 copy

Hey guys,

everything works fine for me so far. But I seem to be mising something when trying out the install from a partition of the internal HDD (done with ddmac).

The installation works just fine, I reactivate the XP main partition and restart on the OSX 1 partition. Everything boots fine, the intro movie plays, I'm asked what country I'm in, what keyboard layout I want to use.

But then OSX asks me if I'd like to import any data from another account, a drive, or not at all. No matter which option I choose, I get a colorful ball of death for about a minute, and then the intro movie starts from the beginning. Nothing crashes, the whole thing just loops.

I presume that the OSX 1 System wants to read from the install disc, but can't find it (I have no way of knowing, just a thought).

md5 checked out on all images.

Any thoughts or pointers to threads I should check out? I'm willing to learn.

Try quitting out of the initial set up system. You can configure everything manually later.

Either Option-Q or CTRL-OPTION-ESCAPE and force quit the set up application.

Right. I guess I was too busy thinking about complex partitioning schemes to think of the simpler solutions. smile.gif

Will try it out right now. Thanks!

*** UPDATE: ***

Nope. Didn't work. Couldn't, because this is even before any users have been set up, so I guess there's nowhere to quit to. Thanks for the idea, though.

I'm thinking if I should get the touch panel for NC10, the price is quite attractive and the seller said the installation is not too difficult. If I order on Monday then I can get it in middle of December...

Hi guys, I've read every single post on here, and like other, want to thank Mysticus C* for all his hard work.

I've been looking at netbooks to upgrade my Asus EEE 701, and the Samsung looked good, but since it can run OS X (I'm a serious Mac head) then I will be ordering one on monday.

Cheers

it didnt happen at all on my all tests at all, but i know that issue, it happened to me once, but it was when i had another osx partition with account in it... do you have another osx partition with any created accounts?

if not try transfer account setting, and let it to try to find, if it doesnt it should by pass, however if it doesnt help, restart the netbook, and try again\? not working? try a reinstall, but use diskutility first to erase the partition content, and restart the installer...

hopefully it should work... but again, do you have another partition with osx installed with an account created...?

maas aa: sorry i didnt include undo data information due to large sum of data being wiped out from the original jas dvd which would make this ppf something like 200-250 mb in size... therefore i didnt do it, sorry mate...

but i warned in the first post to back up the original iso somewhere, i guess you didnt pay attention smile.gif

also read the page 54 of the pdf guide for the correct bios settings!!! so dont complain about computer not working smile.gif i made a 100+ pages step by step guide (although outdated now due to new dvd progress) you should do some respect and read it carefully smile.gif boring to read\look at 100+ pages but it is required to know some basic things...

xeo84: you can upgrade to 10.5.5 using the packages and guide just fine, however i dont like to debug issues caused by using another dvd... it takes more time for me to figure out all the kinks all over again...

i highly suggest you to follow the guide to the end and partition the hdd the way i said (most people find it weird but when i finish my guide you will all understand how usefull it is, and most of you will appreciate it!) and use the same dvd, so we are all unified and less time spend on debuggin issues... if you can follow my guide\dvd instructions you will have the least issues...(probably not at all, apart from the known issues)

ngreg: which seller are you referring to mate? point a link so to check wheter he is the same one i talked on ebay (he is also from msi wind forums) he will be back around mid dec so may be the same guy smile.gif

about the ease of install, i doubt it is a piece of cake that anyone can do smile.gif so watch out! because many msi wind user including experienced once had issues installing these kits, such as breaking lcd display or breaking touch screen module, break the case parts... etc...

mudzilla: you are welcome to be on board... however i recommend you to make your mind up about your priorities before you do this... so if something does not work that you are expecting, this is not the place to cry smile.gif ok mate? most things you need to know will be in post#1 esp on monday, most of the information will be updated!... cheers...

"do you have another osx partition with any created accounts?"

In fact I do, but I never thought this might be an issue.. is it just one of those mysterious bugs, or is there some sense behind it? Well, I guess I'll never know, cause I'm erasing and reinstalling it all. The installation from the internal HDD partition ist so beautifully fast, this should be the standard way of doing it - anyone can spare 4,4 GB just to have spre startup disk sitting there.

I'll report back if the problem seems to be persistent. I've browsed the MSI forums too to find if that ever happened to anyone, but found nothing.

It's still there!

I redid everything now - zeroed out the internal hdd (apart from the 30gb XP partition), repartitioned it according to your scheme, made a installer partition with ddmac, changed all the relevant files & entries, BIOS is as ist should be - but after I install to the OSX 1 partition (it all works) and reboot, it loops again.

I'm in Germany, using the local bluetooth-less white NC10, all stock.

Installation from external HD works great.

Is there anything I missed when installing from the internal HDD? Can someone maybe confirm the sequence of steps for me?

can you boot using
-v -x
flags and try to do the same process? it may be a specific model bug or something?

I got a PM from Shem, who has found a workaround for the problem, but didn't manage to find a workaround to posting to the forum. wink.gif

I'll repost his PM here:

QUOTE
hi,
i can't seem to figure out how to post to the topic so i sent this info to mysticus and am including it for you below as it seems we had the same machine as well as the same problem...:

I have a German rev of the NC10 White. So far it's completely stock.
I did the install with your NC10 DVD and everything went perfectly until the Welcome video after which it asks about transferring data -- then it loops just as described by Sixpaq in post #265.
After I went under the hood and booted with -s, created an accountsetup file and logged in as root everything works perfectly (minus the remaining problems you've said, of course). There are detailed instructions for this to be found for others having the same problem with a lenovo s10 at

http://www.inetbook.com.cn/viewthread.php?tid=1142

(the hash for the ppf:ed file checked out BTW, so the problem is not there. Perhaps with the revision of my NC10 as you suggested to someone else?)

I haven't tried the 10.5.5. install yet, so cannot say anything about that.

cheers!
shem

Thanks, Shem,

I'll try it out right away!

*** UPDATE ***

It works well. But it's a circumvention of the problem, not a solution. Mysticus, what would you need from me to figure this out?

Okay,

last post today:

I guess we can rule out the Bluetooth module as the culprit for the "immediate wake from sleep on AC power" problem. The German revision of the machine has no BT, but has the same issues.

then it is power management setting or issue... work WOL, wake on lan... when on power connected, it has power on all the time, but when on battery it uses power management and avoids activity from wifi...

i know in windows' power management have settings for these kind of things individually... so there may be a setting for it in osx as well... smile.gif obviously there is i think, so we need to find the pm setting for wifi (wake on lan active\passive when on power)

hope it makes sense?

Hi guys, I have a question about partition. Can Mac and Window share a same partition for file and stuff? I plan to set up my partition like this:

20GB for Windows XP
80GB FAT32 for storage of music mainly iTunes ...=> this will be used for Mac and Windows
20GB for Mac
20GB for Clone (as Mysticus suggested)
5GB for Data/Update
4.7GB for Install

Still waiting for my dw1490, darn I should have bought one from US instead of China. Now I have to wait another week to get it. Maybe I just go ahead and use my old BCM4311 from my TX1000....

Darkgemini-
I'm sure it must be possible, but mine is not set up like that. What I do know is that when I'm booted in to XP, Windows cannot "see" my Mac journaled partition. However, when I'm booted into OSX, I can access both my Mac and Windows/NTFS partitions. So I've used my windows partition as a holding pen for some Mac files while I've played around with the whole OSX thing (e.g., keeping copies of the 10.5.5 dmg update "safe" while I've messed up the OSX install). Others here will likely know better than I - but for what it's worth.

Mysticus C*: I live in Hong Kong, I find a shop sells different size of touch panel. The seller told me that he's now collecting order from customers, after one to two days he will send the order to manufacture, then he will get the panels in middle of December. He told me many foreign people order panels from him, so I wonder if those ebay sellers are order from him.

The price is about USD $80, includes a touch panel, some cables and a driver disc.
