Isnt it time for a dedicated nc10 osx forum? blink.gif

considering it, and talking to hoster to see his opinion... if he is cool with it, i will do it

and if it works out, it will help me clean the mess about all this patching, updating, installing stuff...

i wont kill you, but will let you know that you have to read around first before you jump on asking something....

to get headphone working,
1) you need to install azaliaaudio driver which you can find all around the forum, if you just google it... (to install azaliaaudio driver: first you need to uninstall delete/or/move) AppleHDA driver!, because they are both providing same functions! so it will conflict with eachother)

2) you need to install CHUD package (if you started with nc10 10.5.6 iso, CHUD is installed already, so no need to install)

3) you need to use audiee to switch better headphone

You need to read around to understand how to use terminal or other tools to install drivers, etc... I mentioned the problems/solutions in the first post, but people find it easy to just ignore reading it, ignore searching around, and jump to last page and start posting, and expect to be not scolded....

haha, thanks for taking it easy on me mysticus, i honestly did try to read through most of the 85 pages of this thread, even before i got my nc-10 and i've tried google searching this forum but i couldn't find the answer i was looking for. do appreciate what you're doing for the community, thanks again.

Hi again,
I played with other gma950 Kext to try to have my boot logo apple with the good scale at the boot start from osx.
I did not sucess and have receive a new problem. I do not know if it comes from this try...
My brightess control with quicksilver did not work anymore. When I use the special keys windows and up or down arrow, I can see the icone of brightness setting but it changes nothing of the brightness of my screen.
Seems that the script is broken somewhere.
Can someone help me to find a solution to get the script working again ???

PS: I already completly delete QS and library and reinstall again but it still not work.

Thanks

solved : I executed the script from /Library/Script/Brightness in terminal with sudo and it is working again as before...

ok, i got the audio working correctly now! so i'm just waiting for my new dell 1490 wireless card and i'm all set! thanks again for your help! maybe you can put some of the post-installation tweaks into the PDF like audio, bt, etc. so it's all in one place.

open finder/applications/utilities/keychain
find and delete the brightness controls
reinstall QS
readd the scripts...

Also, answer this, are you on nc10 10.5.6 iso or something else?

Note to all: Samsung NC10 forum is ready, i m just setting the topics, and titles, i will post the details shortly...

We can than move to this new forum, and easier for me to moderate unnecassary posts...

Here is going to be the new place to discuss Samsung NC10 stuff from now on...

Also my Combo/Delta Update patches guides will go there as well for regular desktops/laptops with intel cpus...
(Note: There is nothing in the forum apart from topic titles yet, but will slowly add all the missing pieces... I just set it up...)

Suggestions, opinions are welcomed!

I will also assign 1-2 moderators as well...

in Samsung NC10 part, I would like Stuart to be a Moderator... if you accept Stuart?

Cheers...

Thank you for the reply Mysticus.
Probably a last question here before that the new board will be ready.

I have often Kernel Panic at start up of osx. I must force the nc10 to shutdown and restart.
Is this normal because something is not stable for nc10

How can I find where the problem come from ??

I installed osx with the 10.5.6 iso Jas Mysticus downloaded from rapidshare.

Thanks

you are the only one who is having constant kernel panics, indication of fingering things yourself, which is parallel to your previous post of playing with gma950 and other stuffs you mentioned...

at boot count down screen, go to osx partition, and type -v and after that press enter to see verbose mode to find/trace kernel panic source... it usually tells KP problems in verbose mode if it is on start up...

For Everyone Else:
The New Forum i linked in my previous message is to moderate information and guide people in a better structured way, and not that i want to take people away from Insanelymac...

The reason is that I can devide the NC10 into sub topics as installation, updates, patches, moddes, etc, so that people can find the information easier... and i can manage and moderate posts for useful and useless ones... smile.gif

Insanelymac is the ultimate source, however it is hard to control your own topic for specific subjects....My new forum is not an alternative, rather supplimentary...

new forum is based on Samsung NC10, and Combo/Delta updates in general which I m trying to help many others...

Cheers...

Arent you afraid a new forum might only lead to more double questions. First of all if this thread in insanelymac is kept in use, those people that dont read anything will post the same questions anyway. Second, I read up in this thread almost daily, patiently waiting for expected news such as the voodoo package and to see if there is something new cool or handy for my osx install. If I now also have to check all different areas of the forum I am bound to miss something and maybe only learn about something without having read the basics, leading to more questions.

I think it would be good to get a more clear oversight for some new people to stop all those repeating questions. But I already try to get all the news about the NC10 following this thread, sammynetbook.com and a dutch forum, dont like the idea of another place to keep myself updated. And I noticed that it is more difficult to keep informed on the dedicated sammynetbook forum instead of the single threads because information is too scattered.

You have good points, but when you think of it overall, this topic is becoming very crowded, and getting more diffucult to manage.

You are looking at it at a more personal level, but if you start helping people for a very long time, you will understand that it is very hard to focus on everything in one topic... and it gets people bored really! And i do not have any control whatsoever to this topic and my other topic as well... They are very large at the moment, and hard to manage as one topic titles...

Also, time to time annoying people coming and wasting space for very basic and answered questions... I keep getting annoyed as much as others, and wasting time by arguing... To stop annoying people, and keep the topics clean, i need to have some sort of control... This is the only way to do it...

If it sounds hard for you to check 2-3 forums, you can just stay here, and read the news... I will still try to update news here as well, but primarily focus in the other one! You have a free will not to join and follow other forum... Can not force you. As i said, i made it as a supplemantary not alternative...

Collecting, using and to be able to freely manage the information from one central point is the easiest way for me and I m sure so other helping guys... I will give those moderation rights who will be helping me in that other forum, so we can focus on Samsung easier....

Similar to Wind forums...

Like I said, you are free to not join or follow...

Mysticu you are far tooooooo kind.

Look guys apparently for those who chime in (and there is always 10-20 of you) after finding this forum and going right to the end page. Look. It starts on page 1 for a reason.
Sooo apparently you all need a guide on how to be good little forum goers. It is not that we dont mind helping out with specific new problems. BUT THE WHOLE IDEA OF A FORUM WHERE INFO IS STORED is so you never have to do something twice.
Let me start a troubleshooting quick guide

Problem: You want to install Mac onto your NC10
Fix: Read from the page 1 of this forum.

Problem: You are having trouble installing
Fix: Read from the page 1 of this forum.

Problem: You can't seem to get the partitions right.
Fix: Read from the page 1 of this forum.

Problem: Everything installed, but it keeps rebooting at Apple symbol
Fix: Hey guess what Read from the page 1 of this forum.

Problem: Sound doesnt come out of speakers, doesn't come out of Headphones
Fix: Read from the page 1 of this forum.

Problem: You want your PC to be as flawless as a normal mac
Fix: Stick this computer up your anus and then Read from the page 1 of this forum.

EVERYTHING HAS BEEN ANSWERED ALREADY. ITS IN HERE< TRUST ME YOU ARE NOT SPECIAL, contrary to what your parents told you.

SO i hope that clears things UP. I will of course have to post this on the next page, for the next group of idiots. And yes if you feel like you asked a simple question, And that you are just looking for a little info. YOu are getting yelled at cause you refuse to do your homework.

Being aggressive doesn't help.
Also, "slapping" users that ask for info instead for searching, doesn't make any difference, there's no "collective noob user" that will learn with negative reinforcement. Just kindly redirect them, it's not that difficult.

Agreed on slapping noobs doesnt help anything, but when they bounce back harsh, and argue like you tell them wrong information...

like the specific case:

he got dell 1490, looks like it is working in OSX, just not XP, so no hardware problem, rather driver installation problem...

He cant get it to install on XP, as mentioned by many, the only way to install it is manually selecting the driver after extracting it...

He is the only one who was not able to install the XP driver despite the fact that everyone else did it...

I have seen and talked to many people's case that they followed directions a-to-z, however i found 99% of them found to be missing 1-2 steps, or not following it at all!

Sometimes it happens (it happened here when i asked people to check bios settings for example) when people's eyes and mind do not colobrate... I understand that, and ask people to recheck... But when i get a reaction something like "I know what i m doing, you stupid, your help is not working" I cant help but blast!

That is why sometimes having your own forum helps clear annoying people...

You will understand better after helping 1000+ people... smile.gif

I hate to call people noob, but sometimes they deserve it... There is a huge fine line between a NOOB and a NEWBIE...

agreed. from the moment someone seeks help impolitely he deserves what he gets.
being sarcastic doesn't hurt anyone...getting mad and being hostile to the member that
will just create an account to ask a question and never appear again is unnecessary and
a waste of your energy. my two cents.

enough off topic chitchat, apologies for causing it.

to be on topic, I received my 1390 today. Installed it, not tried it except for installing drivers
and see if it can see networks - and it can, both in xp and osx biggrin.gif

Installation was a piece of cake, the only problem was to unclip the nc10's case after the screws
were removed - took me a while.

Got it for £8.98 including p&p off ebay, brand new and unopened. I've been tinkering with kismac
and kexts to make the Atheros card work for about a week and I've failed miserably. It randomly
works whenever it wants, even sometimes disappearing from the XP device manager altogether(!).

I think its well worth its money and little trouble (I need to check if everything works fine before
I can definitely say it's worth it!).
Only multitouch left for me to feel complete biggrin.gif

multi touch expectation on osx will make u sad at the moment smile.gif multi touch drivers are usb drivers... and will not work with every usb touchpad either... just for your consideration... as noted, the scroll function requires also tweaking fingering... and said to be working fine which i never tried... touchscreen helps me in taht smile.gif

for the kismac, we discussed it before, it is very bugy and troublesome (as far as i remember, and dont know the current progress to be honest) but the dell option is the best at the end, as it is built in supported! and forget about future update worries for network drivers...

Back in the day the forums were very rough, terrible search function (given insanely still has a terrible search function) there was very little options as to get the information quickly and efficiently.

Forums have come a long way and this forum is an example of that. We can quote a previous member, as you and I have done. We can link to other pages where more information can be found. We can upload small files that will make our lives a lil easier, perhaps a lil cooler.

But I don't think I can so easily excuse the new members who chime in on page 89 and say I did everything you said Mysticus but sound doesnt work, and how come multi touch isnt working.

This forum hits you with a HUGE FAQ... you dont have to go digging to find info Mysticus took the guess work out of it. ITS RIGHT THERE. So when I say read from Page 1, I am linking them. I am not getting angry. or trying to be abusive. I am trying to stress to everyone you are taking essentially a PC and turning it into a somewhat functional mac. That being said, I hope someone who is going to undertake such a labour, would at least do his homework.

For instance I need to hook up a monitor to my Mac, Early on I hit the mirror button and whamo distorted screen. Now did I post a question without doing some leg work. OR SCREAM HEY MYSTICUS my samsung is not a mac if it cant do mirroring. NO of course not. I did a simple google search, How to remove saved mirroring prefs from my system. took all of two seconds.

Now if anyone is trying to install mac on their samsung nc10. They will undoubtably come here. Once here they should start from page 1. yes 80 pages is a lot to go thru, it takes a minute to scan each page. I would hope once they got a grasp of whats going on and having read the FAQs at the beginning only then would they install. Simple as that. So I am sorry if I came off as belittling. or angry. It's a simple fact that people want an easy fix. This new forum MC made will obviously reduce the redundancy. But until it is up and running Read from page 1 thank you.

I have to agree here, I've been part of this thread from near the beginning and every time I have a problem a simple Google search fixes it, and now insanelymac has been updated with a much better search engine, there really isn't any excuse for not doing a search first before asking. Plus I've actually read all 86 pages and just feel I have to say that you can't expect Mysticus to be your personal osx technician that will be on call 24/7, he has managed to do a lot in these 86 pages and is clearly dedicating more of his time with the new forum.

I agree that there's no excuse for not searching first.

I've searched for this for a while and haven't found anything (besides setting the time zone to tokyo which doesnt make any difference). My new 1390 doesn't see channel 12-13 networks, even though all my regional settings are set to UK.
Channels 12-13 work in XP so it's not 1390's limitation.

Absolutely Fantastic !!!!!

The resourcefulness and dedication of people
on these forums never ceases to amaze me.

Used the appleyukon2new.zip file from the thread linked
by Mysticus C above and now ethernet is working fine
albeit I have a mac address of 11:22:33:44:55 but
it works.

All that remains is the voodooHDA for a fully functioning
soundcard and the nc10 will be perfect.

Many thanks to all developers and contributors to
these forums for making it so easy for us newbs.

Without your hard work my NC10 would be a XP
netbook and not a serious productivity tool.

My old G3 pismo is well on its way to retirement
after many years of service it will go back in it's original box
for a well deserved rest.

It is an old and trusted friend and although i am sad to
be putting it away, the samsung does everything I need.

Regards
