I will try removing DVD right after installation completes .....

But Please,Can you remember the process after the installer completion and restart....
Its not clear in the manual!

once the installer has completed, you just need to reboot with the dvd drive disconnected otherwise it will boot off that again. You are rebooting with the dvd drive disconnected are you? and if so what screen shows?

Hi!

I want to reduce the noise of my NC10. I´m already using the superhai kext to use Speedstep which i have manuelly set to 800Mhz! But the fan is still annoying from time to time!

I want to have the "silent mode" as in Windows!

Is it possible to undervolt oder reduce the speed/clock of the Graphicadapter? In Ubuntu (with an other Laptop) you were able to switch between several speedmodes using the terminal! Maybe in OSX it´s the same?

Sorry for my bad english!

Did you hit F4 at the BIOS screen to enter Samsung Recovery? You do not need to actually run any of the functions -- simply entering the console is enough to repair the partition flags.

i need your help guys!

I´ve been using osx for 2 month now and all "is" working great! But today i wanted to go into the bios but i accidently typed f4 and got into the recovery. I escaped from it, but it had already written a new mbr. Since then my nc10 automatically boot xp without osx option! And i can´t activate or something else in the diskmanagement in xp, as described in the guide!

Maybe someone of, who boot with the xp bootmanager can tell me his entries in the boot.ini?

Or can someone tell me how to get osx bootloader back?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR HELP!

INSTALL acronis OS SELECTOR it will give you both xp and osx option before boot.Or if you have a bootable usb acronis diskdirector suite stick u can boot into it and set osx partition as active, then darwin loder will load by default

I think you might need to alter the darwin boot config file to look something like this

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
<key>Kernel</key>
<string>mach_kernel</string>
<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string></string>
<key>Timeout</key>
<string>1</string>
<key>device-properties</key>
<string></string>
<key>Graphics Mode</key>
<string>1024x600x32</string>
<key>Quiet Boot</key>
<string>Yes</string>
</dict>
</plist>

it is here:

/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist

and will need this command to edit it:

sudo vi /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist

or text editor if you are happy altering permissions,

Someone correct me if it is possible to use the defaults command for the boot.plist but I don't think it will!

I think my Darwin Loader is not working anymore after modifying the Boot.plist. It just brings me to a black page and then back to Win 7 bootloader.

I installed OSX with the modified iso and triple boot (XP 7 and OSX) with instructions given here.

Is there anyway I can get my darwin loader back or boot into OSX without it? Thanks.

Edit: My fault, just realised i missed out a end slash for dict. Boot from USB DVD into my OSX to bypass faulty Darwin Loader. Everything is back to normal now.

Google "Chain0" which will lead you to methods of starting in the XP bootloader and then bouncing to the Darwin version. Basically it is the reverse of the way you were doing things.

ok now i have nearly crashed my netbook...

yesterday i have "installed" chain0 in xp and edited the boot.ini so the osx is default. Ok the problem after that was, that the darwin boot loader preselected the windows partition to boot, so the xp bootloader appears and then darwin ... a loop wink.gif till i manually select OSX1.

Because this is anoying i looked for a way to change the default boot partition in darwin. At this time i edited in the com.Boot.apple.plist, as described on the darwin homepage, the selection "Kernel Flags" with rd=... . But now OSX is not booting anymore... So i want to remove my changes in the plist. But with the OSX-Bootcd there is no "nano" oder "vi" even no "sudo" in the terminal. And with my Linux Live-CD i can only read not write on the OSX-partition, although using sudo. There was one strange thing with the terminal in the osx boot cd, it was called bash not terminal, i don´t know but i remember that there is difference between them...

Can somebody help me and tell me how to edit the .plist outside osx??

ok downloaderz helped me to get into my installed osx via the live-cd! THANKS A LOT

Do somebody knows how to change the default osx correctly? I tried rd=disk0s3, but darwin still prefer windows...

thankyou very much for this distribution, and the advice given in this thread - which has helped me to get audio working with audieee and made the trackpad usuably sensitive.

i feel i must mention something - even if i installed the UK keyboard layout package (twice actually), the keyboard layout still isn't the UK layout:

shift+2 = @ and not " as it should be, and some other errors in the mapping i assume due to the nationality.

its a minor thing, given the amount of work this must have been, but considering you made the trouble to make a special uk keyboard package, i thought i should say it doesn't seem to be working on my system.

thanks again, great work!

edit: actually, it is the uk layout partially, since i can access £ with shift+3, though some keys not right
edit2: i needed to enable the uk layout, rather than the british layout in the international menu!! smile.gif

now the layout is almost correct - still the \| key is swapped with the backward facing quote, hardly an issue

Did you try to remove the DVD from the external DVD reader after OSX installation?
After installation, if I remember correctly, the computer restarts and should then boot from the HD and complete the setup process...
I did also the installation using an external DVD reader (successfully) .... I had some minor troubles... unfortunately I don't remember exactly how I solved them.

Hey toc
Can you just give me your drive details please?
I mean how you managed your hard disk partitions.....
thanx,waiting......

I have just 2 partitions: OSX (~75% of HD capacity) and XP (~25%); no XP restore partitions (removed before installing OSX; there were two I think... ).
To shrink the XP partition to 25% of HD and remove the useless (for me) XP partitions, I used Parted Magic (linux) but I guess I did something wrong making the NC10 unusable, so I reinstalled XP from scratch (with Samsung discs) after complete formatting and partitioning (then with my desired setup).
Then I installed OSX using Mysticus guide, using an external DVD reader.

Hi, nice tuto and 10.5.6 DVD .. works pretty well..
just picked up some tweaks in this thread and worked fine ..

The touchpad/trackpad is just a lame ... it doesn't works the same way on the vertical axis as it does on the horizontal axis (twice as fast)..
isn't there a tip to ehance the behaviour of the touchpad ? it works pretty well under windows, but it's almost unusable under Mac OS X

I've tried several things and this is worse than the original trackpad included on the DVD ...
I don't care about the scroll.. I know I won't get such a feature ... but at least restore the smothness of the trackpad/touchpad would be great ..

any ideas about this ?

thanks

Nope, it just enables the trackpad panel, but it doesn't fix that problem for me neither... unsure.gif

Yeah, but then you go into the Trackpad panel, and you lower the "Tracking Speed".........

Did anyone else find it impossible to unscrew the screw holding the Atheros wireless card in place? No matter how much strength I used, it wouldn't budge, and I nearly stripped the screw in the process.

Needless to say, I'm pretty pissed now. What good is installing OS X if I can't get a supported wireless card into the damn thing?

I had problems too, and in the end came to the conclusion that the screwdriver wasn't quite the right size. Tried a different one that that looked nearly identical and it came straight out.
