partition table should not be effected! if you didnt use a partion manager program to finger around! I did this on my system several times with so many partitions, and didnt see any of them being effected! The only possible explanation is your partion manager screwed it up for you...

I dont have a partition manager except for windows xp. When I installed the first time I had a 15gb xp drive. A second unused partition which I made because I planned to install osx of 55gb and my data partition of 80gb. All made by xp manage option and all primary.
I followed your guide exactly, except that I only deleted this second partition and I used 25gb for (evantually) osx1 (primary), 25gb for OSX2 and 5gb for the DDMAC (both on extended). Further I did everything exactly as described, I had the guide running on a seperate computer and went slide for slide. Everything went smooth (didnt even need F4). But when I restarted in windows to set that partition active I saw that my data drive was gone. It was also gone in Leopard. I created a new drive and got as much as possible back with recova.
2nd time had installed w7 on the OSX2 drive. Saw still the option to boot as osx, but first installed drivers etc on windows 7. Wanted to check osx and it didnt work. Figured w7 did something and just wanted to reinstall osx. During installation, where you have to erase disk the two disks in the installer I noticed that my data drive already didnt show there. Aborted installation, couldnt startup, pressed F4, could start, but the data partition was gone in both xp as w7. Shown as allocated space in xp, just like first time.

When I couldnt start up I once started ubuntu live and checked gparted, saw the data drive already as unallocated space, the rest still looking good. Searched for option to assign letters, but didnt find that and left gparted and ubuntu leaving everything untouched.

still does not make any sense... osx installation doesnt delete partition, it only changes the active partition flag, and causes small glitch, i have 1-2-3- primary -4 extended partition area for for 5-6-7 logical partitions, and after install none of them are deleted. you are the first one most likely having this trouble as no single person complained about this!

can you explain your partition scheme type (something like above? the order of partitions and which are primary and extended-logical)? have you changed/removed your recovery partition and or tried using GUID partition table somehow?

I am without my nc10 here, this is what my partitions look like: I made a small mistake before, forgot about one drive on my extended partition. The osx disks are smaller. I did delete my recovery partition. I reinstalled xp using http://www.eeeguides.com/2007/11/installin...-usb-thumb.html before and that requires you to format the whole drive. My xp is pro sp3 corperate.

before any osx
partition 1: primary ntfs (with winxp) active, 15gb, c:
partition 2: primary ntfs, 55gb, e:
partition 3: primary ntfs, (with data) 80gb, d:

after osx install 1
partition 1: primary ntfs (with winxp) active, 15gb, c:
partition 2: primary osx1 (the one from the guide with library) (no further info in xp), 20gb
partition 3: extended partition, 35gb total
-OSX2, (the one from the guide with library), 20gb
-DDMAC partition (no further info in xp), 5gb
-empty extra secondary partition (planned to use for backups), ntfs, 10gb, e:
unallocated space 80gb, made it --> partition 4: primary, ntfs, 80gb, for data, d:

After second install
partition 1: primary ntfs (with winxp) active, 15gb c:
partition 2: primary, OSX1, (did still erase this when I started installing leopard, so its the type of the guide, but nothing installed), 20gb
partition 3: extended partition 35gb
-windows 7, 20gb f: (I deleted this partition and let windows 7 reformat the drive)
-DDMAC partition (no further info in xp), 5gb
-empty extra partition (planned to use for backups), ntfs, 10gb e:
unallocated space 80gb

I still havent found a backupprogram I like therefor the e-disk is still empty.

Drives are in the order xp shows them.

It is kinda like yours, except I have a primary disk after the extended. Maybe thats the problem then?

First off mysticus isn't a sales rep...
secondly, your question about 'retail version' has been answered on this forum and infact many others.
thirdly, and most importantly read the forum and faq a few times before asking a question or attempting to install.

With any hackintosh YMMV...

Thats not a nice way to speak to somebody Adamcarter,

I was just asking his option.
Second: The retail version of OS X on this laptop has not been answered. I know it runs on other laptops, I was asking can it be installed on the Samsung NC10.
Third: I do read the faqs and forums. I just wanted to know by mysticus as he has been doing this type of stuff alot longer than both of us have.

If you read back about 7 posts you'll see that he has already answered your repeated question! If it was a long way back I could understand you missing it, but its on THIS page!

so now that I have Brightness working I was wondering if there was any way to speed it up? Seems like the icon stays on screen for a while ... sometimes 10-15 seconds per press.

The guide says you need one though my trackpad and keyboard worked fine. I had a usb keyboard and mouse on standby though when I first installed

I installed it for the first time last night and all went well. Some of the last screens were different from the tutorial, but i guessed the author had just imporved the install. I never needed the usb keyboard until i got to the screen "press key to the right of the left shift key" etc. Would i still need it for this part of the install? The reason i ask is, i borrowed the usb keyboard and have given it back. Now i want to re-install with smaller partitions.

Please advise,

Many thanks.

Why don't you try using gparted or parted magic first? I know that parted magic will let you resize partitions (and add more partitions) without necessarily messing up your install. That said, no program is perfect - so it might mess up your install. But since you are planning on reinstalling anyways you might as well try one of these other programs first and see if it will work. It might save you some time.

jdenbrok: for some reasons, osx does not like primary partitions after secondary partitions (i came across some glitches before as well, but not like deleting them it is totally unheard off)... although does not make sense... i can suggest you do have your osx partitions at the end... for example

part 1 primary 15gb for xp
part 2 primary 80gb? data partition for whatever reasons
part 3 primary 20-30?gb for osx1
part 4 secondary rest of hdd for ddmac and other backup/data logical partitions (as in the guide keep one 4.4 gb partition for ddmac purpose, and if you want a timemachine partition, use same amount of space as osx1 for another osx partition)

should be fine...

also were there any data/formated space in that 80 gb unallocated space?

Hi Mysticus C*

I get the following MD5 on the JAS 10.5.4 ISO

CODE
18287c511299f3403280e9ccaef63254

is this correct or should I be using a different program to check?

Maybe this helps: I had a similar problem with an external harddrive, after installing W7 i couldn't locate it anymore. For some strange reason my drive letter was gone. With a partition manager i could see the partition, so i reassigned a drive letter. After that everything was ok.
But i have another problem, i downloaded the image (NC10_JaS.OSx86.10.5.6.Intel.SSE2.SSE3_Mysticus.iso) from 2 different locations and i checked the MD5 checksum. Both images appear to be the same but the checksum is wrong:
It should be:
766E0A44E0E55CCCCB4942DBD3FC3D87
but my images gave me this:
8DF704D7A51E812CE1B27857D63831CD
So is it possible there's a corrupted image floating around... ?

I assume this is true, my two copies gives wrong hashes too. And failed after rebooting with the -v switch

localhost diskarbitration[unable]
to repair /dev/disk0s6(status code 0x0000008)
localhost mDNSResponder[37]: Couldn't read user specified Computername
same local hostname

I did exactly follow the guidelines, only difference: I'm using the latest bios from Samsung

What program did u use to verify the MD5 hash?

md5 of the original jas is F7E82424D6EFB474950B361DB7840C91

md5 of the new 10.5.6 iso after ppf is 766E0A44E0E55CCCCB4942DBD3FC3D87

so you either have a damaged iso, or using a program that calculates wrong md5... google "AccuHash" this program calculates correctly... i tried many programs to figure out how wrong can it get smile.gif

mauritsz: it may be a problem with your bios settings? and/or you didnt choose the nc10 package in the customize window, or it may be glitch with the network issue...? provide more information as what you have done, and wheter you changed your wifi or not, and wheter u checked your bios settings?

There was all my data there, but most of it I also have on another computer. Only problem is that I also had the back up from the jas iso on there. Spend one day downloading those 20 parts of shraggle. But I think I can probably recover it also with some program, worked last time for 80% of my data. First I will spend this evening trying to repair the partition in a proper way.

Edit: partitionmagic could fix it but wanted money. Testdisk http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk did it for free. Went so easily. I think I will keep current partitioning and just reinstall partition tree again after I installed osx. Will first start seeding.

I did it exaktly following the guide bios settings are ok, i switched the wlan card for a BCM43 type works fine under Windows.

I don't use a OSx3 partition only XP, OSX1, OSX2 and de ddmac one.

I try to install without any wlan card installed, thanks !

install it with bcm43xx network card, dont take it out, just make sure you choose NC10 option in customize window in installation part...
